Sipped neat, this leans dark and dry for an agricole: hazelnut and dark chocolate up front, then woody spice, coffee and a touch of licorice. A few tasters catch faint grape and mirabelle fruit, but it's the nutty-chocolate side that carries it. At 62.1% the heat is present but wrapped up well. Bone dry, more savory than sweet.

Doesn't quite come close to the 2001 Saint James, but still has a really exciting spectrum of aromas on offer - compared to its big brother, however, the dark fruits lack a little power.

Grassy agricole notes, slightly reminiscent of grappa, some young wood, spices, hazelnuts with chocolate, minimal fruity notes of grape and mirabelle plum, extremely dry. The alcohol is quite well integrated, but this is not exactly a revelation in terms of complexity.

A nice rum, quite a dark interesting proposition, a beautiful aging, cask strength with well-coated alcohol. A nice visionary bottle: in 2008 the cask strength SAINT JAMES were not so common.

On the nose, peppery, fruity and slightly chocolaty. On the palate very fruity, spicy and warm. Alcohol quite present at the end. Long, warm and spicy finish.
