Almost everyone here calls it the most surprising thing they've poured from Tahiti — a cane-juice rum aged in ex-Banyuls wine casks, and that fortified-wine barrel does the heavy lifting. Fresh mint runs through the whole glass, so much that several tasters joke it drinks like mint syrup, backed by ripe banana, licorice and dried figs. The 58.7% sits well integrated. A few find the woody, tannic finish turns bitter.

Incredibly beautiful and unusual bottling from Tahiti. Overripe banana, blackberry, vanilla seeds and dark chocolate and caramel candies, bitter sweet Tahiti vanilla with sea salt and coffee, plus a good portion of sugarcane, honey and tobacco. Alcohol is very well integrated and extremely complex and long-lasting! Absolute benchmark underdog bottling at a very good price from Tahiti and also a rather unusual unique flavor profile! 💯

Mint omnipresent, in the nose as well as on the palate. One seriously wonders if this isn't a mint syrup. The rum is then fruity, then sweet at the end of the palate. Total discovery for me. And a very pleasant surprise.

Well, there are far better rums with 58% ABV. This one is very woody on the nose, also mint and burnt sugar can be detected. On the palate mostly licorice, but also mint and sugar. Alcohol is too noticeable.

Very indulgent nose and beautiful mahogany color. On the nose, the woodiness dominates with a lovely indulgence brought by sugarcane notes at maximum sweetness. On the palate, the sugarcane appears long at first. Then the aging in Ex-Banyuls cask brings all its potential: a beautiful aromatic richness, warm and reminiscent of Mediterranean flavors, dried dates and figs. In the finish, there remains a certain bitterness and astringency, probably also linked to the Banyuls tannins, a bit of a shame but it will probably pair well with a Dominican or spicy Nicaraguan cigar.

I've also never had a Manutea or a rum from Tahiti in general in my glass. Nose: Sweet, fruity and spicy. Scented peach with lemon and a hint of fresh mint. In addition, soft cream toffee with vanilla, slightly chocolaty. In my opinion, the sweet wine barrel is clearly present. Overall, however, very pleasant on the nose. 8.0 Palate: Sweet, spicy and fruity. Peach at the front, then clearly spicy, with pepper, salt, nutmeg and a little caraway. Now sweet again, with soft liquorice and chocolate. Lemon zest brings acidity and bitter notes, but also fruitiness. Swings constantly back and forth between sweet, bitter, citrus fruit and chocolatey texture. A little green at the back. Too unstructured for me. 7,4

👃: Sweet white wine, fresh menthol under a slightly fruity background and young wood and spices not easy to distinguish. The alcohol is very well integrated. The second nose announces more fruits, it's quite funky. Smells good but quite shy. You can tell we've left the French West Indies.⭐⭐⭐ 👄: Explosion of flavor, very rich texture reminiscent of sweet wine. The attack is sharp without being unpleasant, the alcohol is rather well integrated. Predominance of rather ripe fruits followed by nuts and spices on a woody background. I really like this mouthfeel. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ ⏳: Damp wood not very pleasant with spices like pepper, cardamom. Overall quite bitter, which I don't like especially since it's quite long ⭐⭐

The mint stands out in the taste. Exciting! In the nose, besides the grassy note, I recognize a smooth tonka bean. The whole is sweet-yellow-green with a subtle texture. Something very special: lightly sugared strawberry jam at the start. But is it suitable as a 'daily sipper'? To be continued...

Discovered through a sample exchange. The white is quite nice to start with, and aging in a bangnouls barrel seemed unusual. On the nose, something fresh, a bit alcoholic but with a certain roundness. On the palate it bites a bit at first, then gradually moves to more roundness, always with a reminder of brown sugar. I find it a bit expensive for a VO, but it's an original product gaining some complexity with the barrel.

This one is so extravagant it almost feel like a spiced rum. I have never tried manutea unaged so it's hard for me to say what comes from the distillate and what comes from the cask. But it seems the cask had a massive influence and in a good way. It really reminds me what Ferroni did with his LSD grand arome in ex ginger cask. Anis, reglis, tea, you don't get bored. It's really sweet, alcool doesn't burn at all.

The rum I have preferred from Manutea so far. Pleasant, nice and well integrated nose despite the strength. It reminds me of a mint syrup. On the palate, the alcohol is still well integrated, the attack is pleasant with freshness, I still find the mentholated side. The finish is rather long, the mint giving way to more floral notes. After tasting, the glass has a nice smell of tobacco.

For me a completely new destination, which is Tahiti. In the aroma strongly minty, coconut and raisins. On the palate the mint still holds, complemented by banana and perfectly integrated alcohol. Medium-long finish and very banana.

Some clashes between the oak and the distillate (mostly on the nose). Flambeed banana with a nice licorice presence, some vinous aspect too. Very interessant selection... pricey for 3 years old like all polynesian rhums (think Rangiroa). Won't buy a full bottle but i'm glad to have tested it!

On the nose solvent and resin, on the palate toasted dried fruit, banyuls, sugar cane, dates, lychee. A bit pungent. Slightly tannic, toasted and savory finish. In the empty glass scents of sour cherries and figs. Unusual as an agricole, but pleasant.

Really a very nice rum with its accents of beeswax, honey, yellow fruits, and a mentholated note, a beautiful roundness brought by the Banyuls cask, very very indulgent! A great success.

Surprising because it evolves. Blind tasting: Fiji then gourmand then sulfurous. On the palate, a lively attack, almost astringent, all compensated by a very nice finish recalling ripe red fruit, cherry.
