Green olives, brine and fresh-cut sugarcane straight off the nose — this is grassy, floral Haitian clairin at its most recognizable. Several tasters get yoghurt gums first, then earth, grass and a lemon-zest lift. At 56.5% the alcohol stays surprisingly well hidden, oily and drinkable even neat. One member calls it a good introduction to the style, and that's fair — it's the rounder, more approachable Sajous.

Starting from the fact that you cannot compare white rums with aged rums for obvious organoleptic reasons, this clairin sajous is really crazy! I currently prefer them to their aged version. Rich in esters, olive, mineral (tastes like the sea) and complex. Magic!!! I could give much more if there was a distillation between white and amber rums.

No, the first one definitely pleased me more, I find this one somehow too sharp-edged. Otherwise normal Clairin, again very vegetal and floral, earth, grass and sugarcane can also be recognized here.

#5201 05.04.2025 Running through some samples at home. Nose Fresh, balanced, faint smoke, light floral, olive, sugarcane, light citrus, vegetal. Palate Oily, fresh, balanced, sugarcane, light grass, light floral, vegetal, light citrus, faint herbal. Finish Medium long, oily, naturally sweet, balanced, sugarcane, fruits, light floral, olive, faint salt. Empty glass Fruits, floral, spice, vegetal, light herbal, faint medicinal.

It's always an exciting time with clairins sajous. Wild fermentation brings such a difference in character that each year can be totally different rums. This is one of the good years, even if it may be a little too dry for some people's tastes. Very tasty and very drinkable, even neat. I've put it on the classic cocktail battery too: Ti-punch: 3/5 Daiquiri: 3/5 Donga punch: 4/5 Rum sour: 5/5 (seriously, one of the best tested to date, on a par with rum sours made with Foursquare or Savanna) Very friendly.

Once again a very interesting Clairin from Velier. I also initially get the impression of yogurt gummy bears on the nose. Then a floral aroma appears, composed of fresh green cuttings, flowers, and olives. Then I get sugarcane and citrus fruits, followed by a light smoky aroma. The palate is also nicely vegetal and spicy. Sugarcane, olive, grass, sweet citrus fruits, and brine are rounded off by earthy, floral aromas. The finish is very harmonious with sugarcane, earth, olives, sweet fruits like mirabelle and lemon marmalade, ending with a floral, vegetal character. I always find white rum very interesting because you often discover new characteristics. Thanks to @Skyfly for the good sample ;D

The first impression on the nose is yogurt gums. After some resting time, besides the yogurt, you can recognize olive and brine. On the palate, sugarcane dominates, alongside olive and grass. The finish is again very sugarcane-heavy and earthy. Alcohol well integrated.

One of the best of the unaged Clairins, the Sajous is very good for the price and overall clearly ahead of other bottlings. Overall rounder and more accessible. It starts with a fresh nose full of sugarcane, solvents and lacquer, plus yellow stone fruit. On the palate, brine and green olives come in, notes of lemon and light herbs - great rum!

Similar profile to RX 795, but this one is grassier and earthier. Also a slight sulfur/strike-anywhere match note at the start, which fades away again.

👃 once aired for a few minutes its floral notes seize you. You feel like you're in a field of flowers in spring. Also some lemony notes. 👄 powerful mouth, beautiful aromatic intensity with a recall of these floral and slightly lemony notes. Medium-long but very pleasant finish. This clairin is charming because of its uniqueness and personality.

Coming back to my first clairin today. On the nose I have sugarcane and a bit of olive brine. The mouth confirms. Final as well. A much simpler clairin than the others, it's a good introduction to the clairin style.

Very little alcohol on the nose. What a lovely cane nose. Very intense nose. A little fat, hay, I also have olive in brine 🙂 it's floral and herbaceous too on the palate but I also have banana. Very nice rum. The alcohol on the palate is also very well integrated and I find that rather amazing for a white rum at over 56 degrees!

Aroma: pollen, sugarcane juice, green olives, mint tea, chamomile. Taste: peppermint, dates, mint, mint tea, chamomile, a little salty, a little white pepper, sea water, a little smoked marshmallows. Silky body, alcohol very well hidden. Medium long aftertaste.
