Mount Gay Master Blender Collection - Andean Oak Cask
Sip this one neat and give it time in the glass. The nose pulls you in — glue, honey, yellow fruit, even mango and cherry — before the palate turns drier: oak, mint, tobacco and a medicinal, almost whisky-like streak. Several tasters find the wood a touch heavy and the palate less exciting than the nose promises, but it's an unusual Mount Gay worth exploring.

How does Mount Gay Master Blender Collection - Andean Oak Cask taste?
Aggregated from 58 community reviews.
Dry, woody, medicinal Mount Gay with a fruity nose Most agree it's a very good, genuinely unusual Mount Gay — inviting fruity-glue nose, dry woody palate. The common catch: the Andean oak leans a bit heavy and the finish falls short of the nose.

A nose that is difficult to describe. Beautiful sticky notes, honey, spices and fruity. Very balanced, not too weak, not too strong. Almost like a whisky in the mouth.🤣Honey, spice, dry and heather. The storage in oak barrels fits perfectly.👌 Nice tingling finish with good spice. You can tell that a very good product has been created here with skill and craftsmanship. However, there is still a lot missing from the top league, the taste profile is too arbitrary.

Very unusual Mount Gay! The extra year in the Andean Oak is definitely noticeable. Alcohol is very well integrated and not too thin either. Flavor is rather herbal and spicy dry. Somewhat reminiscent of the mount gilboa from velier Warren Khong and the other velier mount gay bottlings. So really warm I do not get with the profile but.... Nevertheless, probably the most unusual mount gay of the Special Editions and quite exciting.
Review by Tim
A beautiful nose that gets off to a strong start: harmonious, very fruity and herbal with a clear honey note. Unfortunately a little unbalanced in the mouth and finish, a touch too bitter and sour. However, very intense despite only 48%, which I found positive. All in all, a good rum with a proud price.

05.04.2024 Mount Gay Extreme Rare online tasting mit Dirk. Retasting and I stick to my initial score. ----------------------- Another nice release. I sampled this rum at the GRF and bought a bottle to bring home. Nicely balanced and fruity with some wood. The flavours come at you from opening the bottle and in the empty glass you get a lovely nose even the day after sampling.

And then today the last samples from Tim, which have been sitting around here for what feels like forever. This Mont Gay is definitely a great rum, with a medicinal nose, leather and clover, then wood and mint on the palate. Delicious :-)

Great pear associations. Then floral on the palate and a wet wood note. The Madeira cask, however, is again ne quality ribs on it.
Review by Andi
At the rare tasting with Dirk at RumDepot. and was very enthusiastic at first. After an hour in the glass, however, it deteriorates extremely. Glue, spices, essential oils on the nose, then rather fruity and woody on the palate. Not for every day, but still very interesting.

Heard good stuff about this one. Smell: instantly delicious. A weird but inviting balance between glue and yellow fruits. Taste: wow. Interesting mouthfeel. Somewhat starchy. Pencil shavings. Lots a mango. Love it. Very very good.

For me, the weakest of the Master Blender Collection so far, although the grumbling is at a very high level. Round and soft, some banana, little fig and vanilla. For me, just a little too much wood shines through. The bottom line is a great rum!
Review by R Wehner
Nose strong wood impression, a bit of glue and herbs, tongue slightly sharp, Mount gay character goes down slightly, decent wood influence, also herbs again, unfortunately not my taste

Barbados I like it...in the aroma and then in the taste there are a little technical elements like in Jamaica, in the background there is a smell of wood...the taste is balanced, it is not sweet. Shame about the slightly shorter finish, the rum seems to end quickly...for me a hilarious piece and I could imagine having a whole bottle in the bar.
Review by Radek Brix
A pleasant mintiness appears in the taste, the rum has a long dry, slightly minty finish, and a slight bitterness appears at the end. Technical or medicinal notes predominate in the aroma of this rum.

I tasted all Master Blenders besides Sherry and I liked Andean the most. Probably unpopular opinion.
