This was the winner of my small Saint James tasting!😎 Delicious nose with a hint of glue mixed with various fruits in an oaky barrel🤤🤤 This wonderfull adventure continues in mouth😏 I found a really light note of bicycle tube, I guess. Fantastic 😜😎 The finish on this one is really fruity and oaky without being bitter or astringend! The barrel and ABV is integrated very well. Conclusion of my tasting: 2006<<<2005<2001 (Roberto style 😜)

An expressive nose with tropical fruits (banana and pineapple), a present but not heavy wood (cedar wood), a salted butter caramel side, yellow fruits and a refreshing vegetal side. A lively palate where the fruits and the refreshing vegetal side are at the same intensity level. The wood comes next, heavier than on the nose. The finish with the fruits and vegetal disappears quite quickly and only wood remains, slightly bitter but that lingers for a long time. A pity, this finish can only take points off this otherwise lively and rich rum.

Crosstasting with the 2003 Brut de Fut, one of my favorites from Saint James! The nose is very surprising... at first I clearly perceive glue aromas, almost like Uhu glue. I didn't expect that at all. After some time in the glass, the SJ opens up with surprisingly many fruit aromas of tropical fruits and cherries. On the palate, initially a caramelized sweetness and some coconut. Relatively quickly, roasted wood notes develop, some violet, plum, and cherry in a pleasant density, but the ever-present alcohol is somewhat disturbing. The finish is medium-length with a very appealing fruit and wood note. A very good complex Agricole, but it doesn't reach the 2003 vintage, which is much riper and more refined.

#4469 13.11.2023 A very nice and fruity release and I love that the ABV is where it is. It makes the profile so much clearer and stronger. The palate is fresh and medium oily with some coffee and caramel. The finish is medium to long with dried fruit and light grassy notes. The empty glass has some raisin, leather and very light chocolate.

Cocoa meets burnt barrel and dark fruits - unfortunately the alcohol strength remains a quite present companion here. Overall a quite varied balance of bitter, fresh and sweet notes. In the price range called for a recommendable bottling - but overall there are undoubtedly better rums from St. James.

One of my favorite Saint James among all those I have tasted so far. I did not find a taste (spice, sandalwood, Armenian paper) that bothers me a bit in some bottles. Here the rum is very round, intense woody but very well controlled, alcohol well integrated.

And the next really strong Agricole after that. Yes, I find this light sweetness outstanding, caramel and toffee are responsible for that, also quite roasted, you can recognize cocoa and coffee here, as well as some wood.

Fantastic color and fantastic nose with some funkyness brought by tropical fruits. Unfortunately, palate feels rather unbalanced being too woody and spicy for my taste. A good rum overall but ot could have been a masterpiece with a palate on the same level as the nose.

On the nose it’s explosive with enamel, red fruits and other tropical ones (banana, papaya), dried fruits (apricots, figs, dates), spices, flowers, wood, toast, chocolate, a bit of leather and with a sweet finish, particularly excellent and complex. On the palate wood and spices (especially pepper), leather and toast reappear followed by a floral and citrus touch, tobacco and red fruits + apple with a sweet and savory background. Well, I have to admit first that my favorite is not exactly Saint James releases. Somehow it tastes quite good and has the typical markers. One sample is enough for me, I don't need more of it.

Very nice round Saint James, nice fruitiness, not too woody, slightly floral and salty spicy, as well as slightly sweet. I like it much better than the 2003 Brut de fut!

So far I haven't really warmed up to Agricole, so it was time for a little cross-tasting again. 1. RX7238 (Neisson Full Proof): Overall more on the fresh/fruity side. Alcohol very well integrated -> 8.5/10. 2. RX10968 (St. James V&B): I especially like the nose here with the subtle glue note, tropical and dried fruits. On the palate then clearly spicier/roastier and slightly bitter -> 8.6/10. 3. (RX1146) La Mauny: Quite sweet on the nose, with lots of caramel, roasted nuts and vanilla. On the palate initially a floral note, then spices and wood dominate -> 8.5/10. 4. RX2216 (Kill Devil Bellevue 1998): On the nose mint, chocolate and some smoke. On the palate also chocolate and mint, plus wood, caramel, some tropical fruits and leather. This was my favorite in taste. -> 8.7/10. 5. RX6221 (Karukera Velier 70th): For me the most "agricole" on the nose. Unlike the other representatives in the tasting, I can tell right away on the nose that it is an Agricole. Typical fresh, grassy notes, sugarcane and unfortunately also a slightly musty note I detect. Also on the palate for me quite floral/flowery/grassy. -> 7.9/10

A very fruity nose on exoticism, it makes you really want to taste it! On the palate at first, immediately a slightly burnt cask taste and plum. The whole thing is intense and striking. I recommend letting it breathe a bit. In summary, it's a beautiful selection and a real success!

The nose is a real delight, opulent with dried fruits, honey, anise and some liquorice. The alcohol is not integrated very good on the palate and it feels deluded and sharp at the same time. The finish, as soon as the alcohol is gone, is long and warm, with roasted coffe, liquorice and dried fruits. Thanks to SaibotZtar for the Sample.

Glue and solvent. Banana, on Saint James I adore the first edition of Ephemere, but this nose doesn't convince me. Lots of alcohol and wood, not well blended. Acrylic note, like paint. Chalk. The palate is much more particular. "Funky" agricole, really crazy... Alcohol too much for me on the second sip, rinse with water.

A Saint-James extra old agricole rum, cask strength 2001. Very aromatic, powerful nose. On the palate, it is an airy rum, you feel the fire and it is very long. There were 1060 bottles of this Saint James rum.

Color: Chestnut Smell: At first fruity with leather, wood and furniture polish. Sweet with aromas of candied oranges and chocolate. Also cherry liqueur. Taste: Spicy-alcoholic sharp with licorice in the mouth. Also when swallowing. Also woody and bitter. Finish: Very long, spicy-sharp, woody and dry. Green bark and still licorice. Medicinal and bitter in the aftertaste. Conclusion: I don't particularly like it. The alcohol is not well integrated. Also very bitter. 82 points
