A port mourant with mixed continental and tropical aging! The years in barrel are all felt and in tasting it you feel like you are transported to the middle of the woods with hints of damp wood and moss! It has a bit bitter side that I am not crazy about if not it would have deserved a higher face..it still remains a crazy rum for intensity and persistence!

Ein grosser Rum aus der alten Demerara-Ära. Opulente Trockenfrüchte treffen auf Holz- und Tabaknoten, schwere Süsse im Hintergrund, dazu dezentes Gewürz und Holz. Geschmacklich archetypisch für die 70er-Jahre-Demeraras - und damit ein Beleg dafür, was in dieser Dekade an formidablen Rums hergestellt und abgefüllt wurde.

Edit: nachdem direkten Vergleich mit dem 75er Silver Seal PM, hat er um haaresbreite gewonnen. Ist aber m.M. dicht auf den Versen von dem 64er Cadenhead. Kurzer Trip durch das Jahr 1975 mit ein paar guten Sachen aus Jakobs unendlicher Schatztruhe. Sehr guter Rum, aber im Gegensatz zum Rendsburger verliert er leider. Ist eher auf der "kräutrigen" Seite. Jammern auf hohem Niveau. Danke fürs Teilen.

100% dried figs, woody and leather ... Old Velier Demerara rum is the best thing you can taste in the rum world. The rums have been aged in the tropics for several years by mistake and nobody has refilled the barrel. The Andel tax was 90% or more, which is why the taste is especially full and intense. Even though it is an extra expensive product, I recommend to taste a rum from this series at least once in your life.

A very woody nose (cedar) and less complex than the 1971 Silver Seal and 1974 Velier PM. But the dried fruit is there, with yellow fruit and bitter molasses. The first palate is quite sharp, then the wood comes in, oak and cedar wood. Extremely infused and bitter black tea, dried fruit and nuts. The finish is very bitter, but I don't mind it at all. A very fine rum, but it suffers a little from the PM 1974 and Silver Seal 1971 tasted at the same time. Thanks Artur for the sample.

Alter Port Mourant mit viel Tiefe. In der Nase Holz, Lakritz, Leder und dunkle Trockenfrüchte, dazu etwas Wachs und eine feine Würze. Am Gaumen trocken und dicht mit viel Eiche, Tabak, Gewürzen und einer leicht herben Note. Trotz des Alters wirkt er nicht müde, sondern erstaunlich präsent. Ein klassischer alter PM mit ordentlich Charakter.

Il colore è molto scuro e denso, al naso è corposo ed esplosivo (si sente dalla distanza) con prugne, uvetta, tanti maturati, tè, pelle, mela cotogna, legno umido, vegetali (olive), zucchero bruciato, un po' di tabacco e cioccolato, ha davvero tanta personalità. Al palato è compatto e deciso con uvetta, pelle intensa, prugne, spezie calde, gomma/caucciù*, pepe sichuan, tè, anice, tabacco leggero e qualche maturato. Il finale è persistente e medio-lungo con aggiunta di liquirizia, anice, legno umido e caffè. Davvero un gran rum ricco e complesso, ma non combacia troppo col mio gusto. Nel bicchiere vuoto legno umido, maturati e uvetta. Oscilla tra 8.5 e 8.6 ma oggettivamente è almeno un 9. Grazie ad Olivier *Non avendo riscontrato il sentore di gomma/caucciù in altre recensioni, è possibile che derivi da una bottiglietta lavata male che in precedenza conteneva un Caroni

Steht dem Rendsburger 1975 Port Mourant erstmal in Nichts nach. Allerdings kommt hier eine super spannende Himbeergeist (Waldhimbeere) mit durch die ich super spannend finde. Würzig, fruchtig, frisch, komplex und extrem rund und aromatisch. Alkohol top integriert. Vintage Demerara PM wie er im Buche steht. Danke Jakob für die Möglichkeit.

Un Port Mourant légendaire aux facettes multiples et qui reflète la qualité des embouteillages des années 70. On a un superbe nez, dense et complexe à souhait. On a une association incroyable entre les fruits sombres (raisin sec, pruneau, prune et baies noires) et les notes boisées fraîches, le cuir, le tabac, le café, le cacao et les épices (réglisse, cannelle, anis, poivre) qui offrent une élégance folle. C’est un profil lourd, très dark et pourtant plein de fraîcheur, avec notamment les herbes, le thé noir et l’humidité du bois, mais avec aussi de la gourmandise sur la mélasse et le caramel onctueux. Une merveille pour les narines. On est sur quelque chose d’assez lourd, corsé et pourtant hyper harmonieux en bouche. Le palais reçoit une palette aromatique très sombre et amère : réglisse, anis, cannelle, bois humide, tabac, cacao, café, cuir, mélasse, caramel et thé noir s’unifient sous la même bannière pour un spectacle riche en complexité et en émotions. La prune, les baies noires et les fruits secs (pruneau et raisin encore) ajoutent ce surplus de gourmandise qui complète parfaitement ce profil, à la fois amer, onctueux, riche et élégant. L’alcool est superbement bien intégré, on sent que l’âge a fait un travail d’orfèvre pour développer une profondeur aromatique hors du commun. La finale est d’une longueur incroyable et renferme une multitude d’arômes : on a ce côté terreux et herbacé qui contraste avec le sucre Demerara, le chêne humide, le cuir, le cacao, le café et les épices. L’amertume est présente mais contrée par les mêmes fruits sombres (raisin sec, pruneau, prune et baies noires) qui apportent une touche de fin subtile et poignante. Un Port Mourant d’anthologie qui fait partie des références à tester au moins une fois dans sa vie.

A remarkable rum in terms of balance, especially when you know what to expect from a 1975 Port Mourant. The profile is, of course, heavily oaked and the bitterness is clearly present, yet it never overwhelms the lovely fruity and round notes. In my opinion, this Velier bottling is less atypical but more approachable compared to the Silver Seal I tasted (cask n°2042). A superb tasting experience !

Woody and bitter all the way from the nose to finish. Barrel is quite present. Extremely intense rum! Herbal on nose with plum, cocoa, raisin and cherry notes. It needs time in glass to expose full strength on nose. Complex and intense on palate. Woody and bitter, but rich of herbal notes, plum, dried fruits, tobacco. Nice finish on roasted nuts, earthy, woody and bitter notes with demerara sugar present as well. Nice rum, awaiting to taste its 74 and 72 brothers:)

When I was missing aspects in veliers Port Mourant 1974, i find them here with the 1975. The woody goodness is balanced with loads of black tea, raisins, prune and anise. Strong tobacco finish that lingers forever
