What a pleasant and intense experience! This rum is crisp, bold, and surprising with each sip. It is light in both color and wood notes, considering it’s been in the cask for 19 years, but if you’re looking for funky rums, this is it! This rum brings lots of fruit, funk, and there’s everything you would expect from a high ester rum of this caliber.
An “experience” rum. Lots of hot bold flavor with a great nose. I get lots of warm fruit, a little plastic and funk, but in a very good way. My mouth is still watering. Adding this to any drink or even to kick up another sipping rum has been a delight. The nose has immensely sweet and fruity notes with a hint of jalapeño jam. Then the palate hits with funky fruit notes and the barest hint of smoked bacon. Fantastic.
NOSE: latex paint, nail polish, fiberglass & resin, w/ green olive... then nutmeg & overripe tropical fruit. Earthy wet mud note, putrid garbage & musty gym bag. The occasional whiff of something candy-sweet. PALATE: WOW. So bright! Sweet/sour fruit explosion!! More green olives, with kiwi, tropical fruit candy (tropical Mike & Ikes! banana Runts!), brine. Some subtle wood tannin underlying it all. FINISH: sweet/sour fruit, lemon custard, sour yogurt. Diesel & neoprene waft over, and a cooling menthol sensation dances with the sweet fruit candy. OVERALL: this is fun! Vibrant, sour, sweet, briny, funky, fresh. The sour fruit candy notes are intense, and fairly dominant. It’s certainly novel, but it lacks balance- an effective counterpoint to the carnival of flavors. SCORE: 85/100
