So young and yet already grown up, with a fermented vanilla cane, mixed with pecan, all in a young barrel with small shavings of burnt wood.

Edit: I don't find it exactly balanced. For me the weakest Mhoba I've had in the glass. MHOBA NIGHT. Not bad, but also not a rum that really blows me away. In this comparison, a total of 5 different Mhobas were tested.

My first Mhoba, let's see. Great nose. Ester, loads of milk chocolate. That's how rum truffles smell. Lots of red fruits. On the palate then spicier. Warm and strong. Amazing what you can get out of 2 years of barrel aging.😀 Great rum for lovers of rum truffles. A positive surprise and thanks to Munich for the sample!😀😀😀

A Mhoba that's still as compelling as ever, with improbable aromatic combinations such as fermented yoghurt with burnt sugar, a hint of salt, sugar cane and floral notes as well as ripe fruit. A rum that leaves no one indifferent. On the palate, the attack is lively and powerful. Sugar cane joins musk, mushroom and compost notes to form a block against spices and young, lightly roasted oak. Fruit is only sporadic on the palate. The alcohol is well integrated into this zany, initially puzzling profile. The finish, of decent length, returns to fermentation, some fruit, spicy wood, but above all with a hint of smoked meat like bacon that adds another dimension. A rum that offers a most original gustatory voyage.

04.07.2025 Retasting and I still like it a lot. ------------------ #5088 Saturday 24.01.2025 - 26.01.2025 A nice weekend in my sisters summerhouse with old friends and colleagues tasting a lot of rums. I can only recommend like we did, no phones allowed and then only music in the background 😊 Colour Medium dark in colour. Nose Fresh, light wood, fruits, sugarcane, spice, medium intense, light ester, faint vegetal. Palate Medium intense, light wood, fruity, light citrus, light ester, medium dry, light spicy, light nutts. Finish Long and warm, fruits, light citrus, sugarcane, light roasted, faint smoke, light ester. Empty glass Fruity, sugarcane, light nutts, light herbal, faint smoke, light caramel. This one needs to rest for a good while for the ABV to settle and the bouquet to really open up. Opens up even more with a few drops of water.

Yes, it is recognizable as Mhoba, I find the burnt sugar here the absolutely outstanding feature. Otherwise, we also have solvent and nail polish on the nose, on the palate still roasted and spicy.

Here is a brand and a rum that stand out. You either like it or not! We're right in the esters, rums where you have to get past the solvent, burnt, etc., but which then offer more pleasant and persistent flavors. Mhoba is another universe and I like that. The finish is very long, I felt like I was chewing a licorice stick.

Really great Mhoba. If you know the crazy funky vibe of the Mhobas, you recognize the taste immediately. Here, though, more as a compliment to the great oaky wood notes. Really good, tasty drop!

Delicious rum with an intense nose, palate and finish. The Glass Casks rum is not aged in barrels but in glass flasks with wood pieces added. This creates a high interaction in a relatively short time. Tastes good.

So far not a big Mhoba fan as I definitely find the rums exciting but rarely rounded and often off-notes resonate for me. This one needs a lot of time in the glass if you want to get through the intense glue notes. Then it becomes quite interesting. Unfortunately sharp-edged on the palate. But nicely warm. I like it. Gets better in the glass over time.

I've had this guy open for a while in my bar. Oxygen apparently does him good. On the nose, nice floral notes of sugarcane, paired with polish. Present glue notes, mineral, bacon, fermented fruits. On the palate quite different, round, warm, soft, syrupy, sweet, alcohol excellently integrated. Medium-long finish, woody, milky, fermented. Top Mhaoba!

The Mhoba Glass Cask does not have this slightly exhausting garlic/truffle oil aroma on the nose as perceived in Mhoba Strand 101 and French Cask. Instead, I perceive very light floral aromas behind the tumbleweed. On the palate then also more easy sipping than Strand 101 and French Cask. Really very very tasty, very round and balanced. Caramel, spice and this typical for Mhoba steppe grass. Simply a round thing. The finish is medium long, with some toffee and caramel.

I have tried this rum several times over the course of a few months. It keeps getting better and better over time. Definitely recommend to let the rum breath in the glass for some time. Maybe add a drop of water. Tip; this should be your last rum of the evening taking the % into account I prefer my rums and whisky with a high percentage of alcohol, but this is quite a stiff one Pouring and tasting the first glass gsve me the opinion of an unbalanced rum that was high in alcohol while bringing nail polisher and ester up the nose. At that time, i would have rated it a 4 out of 10 Having revisited the rum, I would rate it a 8 out of 10. Giving this rum some air really opens this rum and balances it while proving a lot of taste.
