Also a not so expressive young round rum from Savanna, which can offer quite a bit of citrus fruits, herbs, and spices, but generally comes across as rather thin. You can also use it for mixing, but it's probably worth investing more in the Metis.

A very simple run for Savanna. This one is very light in every way - light in colour, nose, palate and abv (43%). On the nose there is fresh citrus fruit, vanilla and wood are the most prominent notes in the light bouquet. On the palate you get wood and vanilla dominating with some fruit, followed by a chocolate note. All light and a tad thin.

#5154 15.03.2025 Running a few samples at home. Nose Fresh, round, light, wood, roasted, light floral, light citrus, faint nutts. Palate Light oily, fresh, light, light wood, roasted, light nutts, faint mint, light citrus, light floral. Finish Medium long, fresh, round, light floral, faint chocolate, wood, light roasted. Empty glass Light chocolate, spice, light chocolate, light caramel, light dried fruit. Price to quality is very good.

The Savanna 5-year rum is a very easy rum to taste. The nose presents beautiful notes of young wood, spices, and almonds. The palate, relatively subtle, offers vanilla and spicy notes. The finish, medium to long, leaves a nice round and slightly spicy memory.

Traditional profile, very typical of Réunion, this Savanna starts with a rather soft nose featuring notes of vanilla wood, caramel, citrus, pineapple, and mango. The aromas are a bit shy and struggle to evolve beyond the traditional standard. Overall, a somewhat muted olfactory profile. The palate raises the bar with aromas of apple, cinnamon, and more pronounced herbal notes. You can feel a more roasted side and a stronger influence from the cognac cask, which adds a bit of complexity. The citrus and vanilla wood notes return, bringing roundness. The finish is round, light, and of decent length. Fresh, spicy, roasted, and fruity notes share the palate evenly. For a permanent range rum, this one holds up pretty well with a rather varied aromatic palette and a nice roundness that makes it accessible to many. The quality/price ratio is pretty good, actually.

Delicious start in Savanna, but the herbal notes are unfortunately hidden a little too much behind the wood. When it stands a little, caramel comes through very strongly on the nose.

Wood, herbs, and vanilla dominate this rum from start to finish, but are represented differently in the nose, palate, and finish. In my opinion, the alcohol is well integrated, although I personally prefer it a bit stronger anyway.

A good entry-level and some nice young first woods, it's light, very very round, no difficulty to drink. We also have some yellow fruits or citrus, even if wood dominates. Not bad.

Nice rum, with a nose full of yellow fruits like banana, pineapple, and citrus. On the palate, it’s not sharp and very well-balanced. It shows a young aging with notes of plants, earth, and roasted aromas. The finish, which is short to medium, has lots of apple, roasted aromas, and cask influence. Overall, a nice rum of decent quality and good taste.

Maybe I miss Angostura Tribute but this Savanna has something similar. A fresh note of mint that perfectly balances the sweet fruity notes. A rum blend with 43%, aged 5 years in cognac barrels. The alcohol comes through a bit too strong for the mild taste. The cognac influence is undeniable but doesn't stand out very much. It seems the blend also has a bit little substance and is a bit thin. Conclusion: Okay, but I wouldn't buy a bottle.

You can recognize some markers of traditional Savanna. On the nose: quite fruity, caramel, honey, syrup. On the palate: same markers as on the nose, fruity, honey, caramel with a slight woody touch. Finish: medium woody. Enjoy your tasting.

Tasting done during the Rhum Fest Pleasant tasting and even more so with the distillery’s explanations. I prefer the must and even more the straight. But it is pleasant, soft and goes down easily with lots of flavor.

Savanna is really an up and down one for me. The can do great, but there is the other side of sometimes utter mediocrity. I really think they are on to something here, eventhough i am not the intended audience. And to reach a level of for example hampden estate 46% this needs more. But hopefully we will get there!
