Incredibly exciting nose of fresh fig, black tea, leather, burnt caramel, tree resin, orange peel and rose water, as well as burnt wood and baking spices. The taste is then initially quite woody and spicy, herbal, with maple syrup and rose bell pepper, as well as rosehip with black tea, leather belt and velvety prune and licorice. The finish is quite astringent, tannins like an old red wine. A really nice interplay of aromas and, in my opinion, not too thin if you take your time with it. Despite its age, it is still impressively complex and not too woody! Personally, however, I find the CDI Kaiman more exciting and complex overall. The Leviathan is more straightforward and drinkable. But both are definitely fun!

Really great nose! The 46% is not noticeable in a negative way. However, a little more power would have made this rum something special. Slight deductions in the thin finish.

On retasting I can see that I would have loved a higher ABV as with the Kaiman. I just got this sample today and it just came at me from the glass while resting it. What a wonderful blend. Perfectly balanced, complex and intense. The long aging is heavy on the flavours and rhe barrel almost gets to a note where it is harsh. Coffee, licorice, fruit, leather, herbs, menthol and the barrel dance in near perfect harmony on cloud 17. I will order a bottle though expensive. A great rum that beats the Kaiman blend, which I like a lot as well. Price to quality is hard to put on this one. In my mind the price matches the quality.

Complex and also like the caiman: an incredible amount of change over time. Less complex than the Kaiman. How much power and expression there is in the 46%, awesome. But I understand that some would have done something else with the product if it had more volume. But I personally like it very much as it is. I wasn't expecting so much, which is why both were a surprise for me.

Nose is intensive and very pleasant. Dark chocolatey, woody and coffee notes from Panama in the ring with fruity notes from Guadeloupe. Again, the nose is very nice but more driven into a woody direction with very distinct (and very noticeables) notes of an aged rum from Panama. The Kaiman has the upper hand here for being just more interesting and complex. Fairly complex on the palate again with very present „Panama notes“. As with the Kaiman the ABV feels to low to unlock the rum‘s potential. Especially the finish is rather thin and short.

Needs time in the glass. Then there's a strong and complex nose. Unfortunately, the rum can't keep up on the tongue. Lots of potential, but doesn't get its horsepower on the road. Probably also due to dilution to 46%.

First, explosive eucalyptus, followed by roasted aromas and notes of leather, wood, tobacco and spices. A quite tart, dry finish with an alcoholic touch, along with bitter orange peel, licorice and dark chocolate

In view of the rather restrained expectations, which arose due to the rather disappointing overall appearance of the predecessor Cayman, the Leviathan could definitely surprise positively. The nose brings a wonderful overall picture of heavy fruit notes, wood, coffee and spices; these impressions alone would speak for a significantly higher rating. Unfortunately, however, the rum flattens out considerably on the palate. Although the aroma play from the nose remains in its basic features, taste-wise it seems rather thin and tamed. Too bad.

Tasted as a 2cl sample. Wonderful nose of dried fruit, leather, caramel, menthol, coffee and orange. On the palate I got cappuccino, dark chocolate/cocoa with a pleasant bitterness. Followed by a light herbal and fruity note (cranberries/raisins/plums). It's a bit of a shame that the finish is quite short, with not much more amazing happening in terms of flavor. It is surprisingly intense overall for its 46%. I'm glad that I was able to try it by splitting the bottle. It's really delicious, but everyone should decide for themselves whether it's worth the price. I personally wouldn't necessarily need a bottle on the shelf, you can get more exciting ones for the money. Edit: with more time, the taste still has an almond/marzipan note

A really great, intense nose. The old Guadeloupe sets the tone. Fruity-spicy and at the same time woody-roasty. Soft toffee upfront and then immediately sour sweetness of passion fruit and dried blackcurrant. Plus dried blood orange. Flavored pipe tobacco and some milk chocolate harmonize quite well with the wood that comes through. Sweetness of brown sugar and honey. I really like what I smell there. Yes, the 46% hinted at it... although it is quite elegant on the palate, unfortunately also very thin. Totally a shame! Here almost no fruit anymore, dry, woody, spicy. Becomes increasingly grassy towards the end. Slightly salty with some anise and fennel seeds. But that's about it. In the finish wood and grass and quite short. Nose top, palate flop!

With the combination and age, you naturally expect something special. I find the whole thing very successful, price aside, I’m glad to be able to try it. Thanks to Oliver! Definitely a nice drop, maybe many have higher expectations at this age but for me it remains a great rum 👍

Nose: Wonderful! Sweetness, fruit, herbs and spice intense and balanced. Over time I can discover new aromas again and again, this is a rum I could sniff forever! Palate: dark beer and beer foam, wow! and malt, Aftertaste: disappointingly short after the nose and palate The price/performance ratio is not so great, especially for a blend. On the other hand - where else do you get such old rums from Guyana? And the profile is really special.

First impression: Spanish, old, wood. I find that a bit unfortunate because the typical Spanish profile appears in both young and old rums and feels like it changes little, only the surrounding aromas differ. Otherwise, you can tell the rum's age or the old portion. Lots of wood, but it fights against a lot of fruit. Plus a sharpness that in my eyes should not be present at all in such a rum. You can tell this is a blend, probably containing young, maybe even cheap parts. Also a bit too thin, so for me at this price it's rather a disappointment.

Mature bottling with impressive 48 years of cask aging, showing in a complex and finely balanced aroma. Elegant wood spice, ripe fruit and a pleasant depth shape the profile. Complex and well structured, a rum that convinces through its calmness and maturity.

A 2cl sample is simply too little to filter out all impressions. It has a wonderfully balanced nose, a perfect interplay between fruit, herbs, wood, spice and fine sweetness. On the palate it initially shows the dark side, wood, leather, spice. When inhaling, the herbal notes and menthol unfold. I like it very much. A bit more punch would have suited it well. Finish is quite short. I need another 5cl to enjoy it. 😊

Very soft and fruity profile. What I appreciate is the nose that reminds of polished precious wood. On the palate, it’s too soft and lacks liveliness to make it truly remarkable. The blend and reduction of this 1973 is necessarily questionable...

Very promising smell. Notes of dried fruits. Clearly also the wood. On the palate, small red fruits, maybe plum-like, raisin but still quite balanced. Medium-long finish. And spicy.
