How does Grays S.B.S Mauritius French Oak & Chestnut Wood 2009 taste?

Aggregated from 25 community reviews.

Dry, woody chestnut power sipper For curious explorers ready for more intensity: a dry, wood-driven Mauritius single barrel at 54%. RumX drinkers get bourbon‑like oak, vanilla, herbs, nuts and chestnut bitterness, great for slow sipping or pairing with whisky fans.

Perfect for

Whisky and bourbon crossover drinkers who enjoy dry, wood-forward rums with herbal spice, nuts and an intense, chestnut-driven finish at higher ABV.

Less suitable for

Those sensitive to high ABV or looking for soft, sweet and easygoing rums; the dry oak, chestnut bitterness and alcohol bite can feel too much.

The nose is quite nice, reminds me of Bourbon Whiskey with some nice fresh herbal notes in addition. On the palate it is quite powerful and mostly aligned with the nose. Same with the finish which is a bit short. The integration of its 54% is good but not great. Interesting wood, overall a really nice drop. Shout-out and thanks to Gunnar.

Jedenfalls sehr lecker.

This release has a kind of lightness to it but the chestnut cask definitely has made an impact. Overall a nice rum and the price tag is really good compared to what you get.
