The chestnut cask leaves a mark — one taster called it a "Muskelprotz mit Ausdauer" (a muscleman with stamina), meaning heavy oak, dark dried fruit, pepper and a hint of mint into a very long, almost bitter finish. The nose reads bourbon-like with fresh herbs. A few felt the 54% could sit smoother.

Wow, what a muscleman with stamina! Could it be because of the very rare Chestnut Cask (only 6 rums listed here)? This rum is definitely not for the faint-hearted, it bites hard, almost too hard, the alcohol could be better integrated. I taste heavy dark red fruits, also some typical mint at the end. Overall, the finish! I think I've never had a rum with such a long and intensifying finish in the glass. A rum vise that keeps closing, that's the image that comes to my mind. Great New Grove bomb from the 2009 vintage, which has never disappointed me!

A nice SBS from Mauritius afterwards. The nose is mostly woody, but I can also detect some vanilla. On the palate also a lot of wood, but there are also herbs and a bit of pepper. In any case very tasty.

This release has a kind of lightness to it but the chestnut cask definitely has made an impact. Overall a nice rum and the price tag is really good compared to what you get.

This rum from Mauritius definitely has recognition value. Wood, vanilla and nice herbal aromas are expanded on the nose by caramel and fruity components. On the palate it becomes more intense with a nuttiness behind the woody bouquet. The 54% adds some pepper. The chestnut cask shapes the palate and finish of this rum significantly and provides a great intensity that almost reaches a certain bitterness. Because of this, the finish is extremely powerful and long-lasting. A very interesting rum that I can recommend to anyone who wants to explore new flavor fields.

The nose is quite nice, reminds me of Bourbon Whiskey with some nice fresh herbal notes in addition. On the palate it is quite powerful and mostly aligned with the nose. Same with the finish which is a bit short. The integration of its 54% is good but not great. Interesting wood, overall a really nice drop. Shout-out and thanks to Gunnar.

Next up a sbs Mauritius. Definitely a very tasty rum. In taste definitely nicely spicy, also a bit of wood is noticeable. Also remarkable is the finish with a very intense long finish.
