Velier FS (+ a fee spected other contenders) blind cross tasting: Honestly, the results here were very close. The Belier bottlings display a very high quality thourgout the range. Triptych and Pleni came out on top for me closely followed by Destino. I was somewhat surprised, that Sassafras and 2006 came out rather at the bottom, while I enjoyed both very much on their own. Raconteur also quite low in the ranking with Principia clearly at the bottom.

CZ community advent calendar 2025 ... Foursquare is a distillery from Barbados producing amazing rums for everyday sipping. It's a rum especially appreciated by rum lovers who are fed up with sugar and looking for a gentle, sweet rum full of coconut, vanilla, chocolate and caramel. Simply pleasant and not aggressive flavors.

The rum rolls around mouth to a powerful spicy wave. He brings a lot of barrel with what but harmonizes very well with the simultaneous pleasant sweetness. The finish is in relation to the aroma explosion in the mouth amazingly short and dry.a very nice rum that is at least equal to the ECS releases from the Foursquaredestillerie.

Relatively rough, sharp-edged and very dry for a sherry finish. Somehow not particularly harmonious and unusually salty. In the finish, salty pretzels with banana puree and raisins are added, which gives it a few more plus points. Nevertheless, I am not completely convinced.

I really like the sherry influence on the Foursquare profile, especially with some time in the glass this release becomes one of my preferred Foursquare sipping rums. Very enjoyable.

9:On the nose, the first impression we get is very pleasant, almost gentle, as it very balanced and round with sweet spices like cinammon, very roasted, charred wood with dark chocolate, roasted nuts, vanilla, caramel and marzipan. Our nostrils are excited with very buttery feeling. After we air the rum a bit, there are creamy, sherried dried fruits, the molasses is dark and vegetal with coffee, leather, as there also some ripe peaches come out... 9:On the palate, the attack is balanced, delicious with charred, very roasted wood and bourbon yellow fruits. The rum is extremely creamy, but also quite dry, the fruits are caramelized, there are butterscotch, vanilla, chocolate and nuts, as the molasses is thick and dark with herbal nuances.After some rest, the wood becomes resinous, toasted, more spicy with sweet spices, sherry ageing is more evident with creamy, sweet dried fruits. There are some coffee and leather . 9:The finish is very long, creamy and delicious, as the notes from the palate linger on, just the molasses is a bit more bitter.. Top!🤩😋 Edit:15.6.25,👌

Of the Velier Foursquare releases I've tried so far, this is the weakest. Update: I've now tried a sample from a fresher bottle again (thanks to Zabo) and have to admit that it tastes much better. I have corrected upwards again.

What a lovely and well balanced rum. The ABV is so well integrated that you barely fell it. Fruity but a definite Foursquare and I really like the light smoky touch it has. The finish is medium to long and there's natural sweetness all the way. The day after the glass has a nose from heaven.

The Swell and the Barbados 2006 Flag Series have been added to the big crosstasting of the Velier bottlings. Unfortunately, it has not yet been possible to get a sample of the 70th. In general, it can be said that there were no major differences on the nose when flying blind. However, there are recognizable differences in the taste itself. In my opinion, however, three clearly stand out and bring up the rear.

You can clearly smell the sherry cask, but also the FS-typical coconut, spices and wood. The taste is then quite intense after sherry with a decent sweetness, but not particularly complex. Alcohol well integrated. Overall, a palatable Foursquare with a dominant sherry note.

Pub Alte Post Witten February 2025. Let's start with a bomb. Here we have a great nose, vanilla, dark chocolate and wood are recognizable. On the palate we have caramel, dark chocolate, wood and spice.

Exciting tasting. And overall also very tasty, although for me not quite as tasty as viellicht the reputation of the Foursquare / Velier bottlings is. With the Triptych, the wood influence was much too dominant for me. Positive memories of children's chocolate came through. With the Patrimonio, associations on the nose of Indian korma and watermelon. But sharp and dry. Principa I found very awesome at first. Nice fruit components but still FS DNA. But on the finish, the alcohol is too biting. Sassafras pleases me well. Plenipotenzario stands out for me with complexity. Very cool. But the clear winner is Destino. Fruity, harmonious, complex and very tasty! From my memory also a tick better than the 2006. Whether he is worth the money that you have to take today to hand, however, I doubt.

Rankings of 6 Velier Foursquare from cross-tasting (sans 2006 & Destinos) 1. Pleni [Excellent deep foursquare profile that sets itself apart from the pack with a delectable tobacco note and a long pleasant finish] 2. Patrimonio [I love it. The most clearly Sherry-marked of them all and it’s just an ideal complex sipper. The finish cuts out slightly too early to make it top boy] 3. Triptych [intense, flavorful, and very solid but the profile is a little too molasses syrupy for my taste] 4. Raconteur [very good but just lacks a little bit of personality compared to the ones above. The finish is also noticeably shorter compared to the top 3.] 5. Sassa [great jumping attack out the gate but the slightly astringent aftertaste drags it down] 6. Principia [too sharp, alcohol less well integrated, still a more than fine rum of course] Kudos to Leo Tomczak for samplers

A Foursquare with a particularly distinctive profile. The nose is very sweet, carried by fruity notes of red fruits and dried fruits, very sweet aromas of caramel, marzipan and pastry, followed by more intense aromas of spices, glue and varnish. The palate, on the other hand, has a much more powerful and warm profile, driven by spices, chili, more roasted aromas of coffee and dark chocolate and a more pronounced woodiness. The finish continues on the same warm, dry and spicy, dark and slightly roasted frame with a touch of salt and bitterness. A powerful rum that slightly lacks finesse compared to other Foursquare, with higher alcohol content.

A first nose of acetone and solvents but immediately ripe tropical fruits, red fruits, cedar wood and pastry notes without which Foursquare wouldn't be Foursquare. The palate is soft, tasty and aromatic. But a bit simple and the mid-palate is a bit hollow. Beautiful pastry aromas, sherry and discreet wood are the highlights. The finish is nice with dark chocolate, still the sherry, a little spicy touch and red fruits. A nice Velier edition but less convincing than others.

A nose to fall in love with. I have not yet had my fill of Barbados rums with wine finishes. Sherry finishes also have their charm, although I usually like port finishes even better. Convinces nevertheless on full line.

very round, accessible FS, a certain sweetness in the finish. A few more corners and edges would perhaps not have been bad, as it also seems a little arbitrary among all the (Velier) FS with a similar profile.

This is one of the milder and smoother Bellier Foursquares (others have described it as sharp and weak, but for me it feels a bit light for its age). The rye flavors include sherry, green grapes, and unripe peaches. There are also bourbon and leather notes that are typical of Foursquare. It's less woody and more floral than the other series. I would love to have a bottle if I could get my hands on it, it's the perfect Foursquare for me.

A nice woody Foursquare that’s a little on the dry side. Spicy, Chocolate, caramel and a little coconut in addition to the woody or should I say barrel flavour. I’m a little disappointed as I expected a little more. A touch overpriced for a Foursquare but it will fall into the quite cheap section once the Raconteur has been released 😅

Nice Foursquare, on the nose and with the familiar profile of coconut, vanilla, and some wood. Also very tasty on the palate with the known aroma profile, but the Patrimonio comes across quite a bit more bitter than other Foursquare releases - for my taste a bit too bitter. Bitterness and tannins remain especially in the finish. Still a good rum, but not my favorite Foursquare. Actually, I like the Foursquare releases with sherry finish like Sovereignty or Magisterium, but this one is really too bitter for me.

Nutty vanilla nose. The wood is also clearly noticeable. On the palate quite peppery with nice wood and vanilla. The finish very pleasant. A top rum that I can gladly recommend. Compared to the raconteur somewhat gentler.

Foursquare flight this evening, thanks to Lada for the samples! Ok we get into the sherry, I feel like people are cold toward that maturation for rum in general. I've got to say, this rum is heavily sherry forward: almost impossible to tell it's a rum based on the nose only. It not unpleasant at all, but you have to like sherry (most likely oloroso I guess). For the price, it's not completely unreasonable. You get a nice, sherry forward rum, and it's rather balanced for what it is. Definitely, try it before buying a bottle, don't buy one blind!

We have a rum with a beautiful attractive brown color. The nose is liqueur-like and pleasant, you immediately feel the touch of sherry. It's woody and less fruity than the usual Foursquare. On the palate, the alcohol attacks directly. It's woody - spicy. Far from the roundness and indulgence of Foursquare. This bottle was nice but nothing more, quite far from what I expected when buying a Foursquare. And the price seems excessive compared to the pleasure experienced.

Nose: Absolute bull's eye. Complex, thick and intense aromas of nuts, caramel and vanilla. Sticky as well as pleasant marzipan notes. Palate: The nose is confirmed. Thick and full-bodied. Vanilla, caramel and buttery aromas with a pleasant spiciness. The 58% is perfectly integrated. Finish: A little short. Conclusion: Super Barbade, fans should try it. Only the short, less complex finish prevents a higher rating.

I'm always suspicious of Sherry or Port finishes in rum, but this one is really very well done! The cask gives a pleasant dry note without being intrusive. On the contrary, dried fruits, tropical notes like coconut and chocolate dominate this warm, soft, almost oily rum.

It reminds me of the first tastings of Foursquare with the Doorly's XO and 2007 Ferroni. We stay within the Foursquare identity with this almond paste. But this version has raspberry jam, fresh blackberries, and candied orange. It's very evolving. Usually it calms down but not here! The finish is focused on fresh hazelnut, freshly rolled tobacco, black pepper. The swallowing is almost aggressive. Nose is top but palate completely different. Finish not a fan... Still a good juice!

Patrimonio, Raconteur, Destino and Absolutio tasting. Needs to rest to bring out the nose, mostly sherry. But stays rather closed. In the mouth you get great quality and this is why Foursquare is still King. Fruitbom with balanced woodflavours. Endless finish, this is RUM.

Tried this off the back of sampling the excellent Equidem and this was amazing to see it held up however also a mistake because I feel this is a more delicate rum that requires maybe a fresh palate to REALLY experience it however despite that I really enjoyed the chocolate notes - as weird as it is to say, it reminds me of Glenmorangie Lasanta (a Sherry cask whisky where chocolate was the surprise note) however this is more dark chocolate as opposed to milk chocolate. That Sherry cask influence is quite astringent but in a pleasant way - just another showcase of excellent cask selection! Plus the usual lovely caramel vanillas you get from Foursquare rums - excellent rum Another one to hunt for 🙄 god I’ll be broke!

Solid Foursquare, but a bit spicy/bitter for my preference. Palate shows yummy chocolate & roasted notes, alcohol is well integrated. Finish ruins it a bit with the bitter aftertaste.

Nose as classic as they come for Foursquare. Big caramel and brown sugar with an edge of vanilla. Top notch. Mouth brings vanilla, fruit and roasted notes. Big bold vanilla. Finish is all dark chocolate and burnt sugar with a spicy edge. It’s not quite as well integrated as the best from Foursquare, and heavy on the spice front

Very pleasant Foursquare with a relatively traditional flavor profile. On the nose you can sense sherry influence, of course wood, dried fruit or vanilla are not missing, on the palate further caramel and coconut. Exactly what you expect from Richard Seal.
