RumX Fiji Crosstasting April 2024 Platz 3/8 Erneute Verkostung im Blind Tasting. Die Abfüllung hebt sich durch das Ferrand Finish deutlich vom Rest und etwas des ursprünglichen Profils ab. Jedoch wirkt der Rum sehr komplex. Ursprüngliche Bewertung: Eine sehr schöne Abfüllung von Plantation. Schade, dass diese schwer zu bekommen war. Bitte mehr in dieser Art.

On The Rocks: On the nose it has a very strong fruit presence with underlying floral, spice and oak notes. The aroma is quite strong and you will smell it beyond your glass in the room. Taste has a stronger spice and oak taste with fruit taking a back seat with mild underlying hints. There is a slightly bitter taste as it lacks the expected sweetness. The spice is very present with a little burn. Finish is very long and distinct with reasonable complexity. This is a very interesting rum release that is very much a flavour bomb overall. Nice sipping in small quantities. Do not pour a larger glass as it will be overwhelming. Mixed Pepsi Zero: On the nose a dusty old warehouse. Taste reveals a mild bourbon that is slightly bitter with a short finish. Not really enjoyable mixed and would suggest on the rocks.

Edit: Thanks Jakob, I had the pleasure of tasting a wide range of the Fiji 2001 bottlings. Although I've had a few in my glass before, the result surprised me again, as my previous favorite ended up in last place. However, it has to be said that I didn't give most of them time to develop due to a time problem. So here is the result of the blind tasting, which differs from the scoring. This is really a Plantation and also from Fiji that really convinces me. Very tasty. Thank you Vincent for the sample. I have to say that of all the Fijis I've had in my glass so far, this one has convinced me the most. My number 1 from this country

Blind I would never have thought of Fiji from the nose, rather Jamaica high Ester. Brutal stuff, full in the face glue, red berries, tangerine and a whole mouthful of old leather bicycle chair 🤣and bicycle tube but especially leather is blatantly dominant. in ne very perverse way unfortunately really horny with an eternal finish and makes surprisingly fun to drink despite the high age and alcohol content.I am once again similar to the recently released Hampden extremely flashed that such a quality again from the house Plantation comes on the market!Definitely one of the best Fiji rums to date!At the 2nd tasting, the typical burnt bicycle tube aroma is almost too much for me! Nevertheless, a blatant device as far as Fiji is concerned! "Tastes like you're burning your bike and then eat ne horny dark chocolate mousse with red fruit jelly, plus bissl salty banana chipsAber your whole face is full of burnt rubber" 🤣🌋🚲🔥

RumX Fidji 2001 Cross Tasting: Noticably different from the rest of the pack. Very high intensity and thickness and density. First association was „Guyan-esque twist on the Fidji 01 profile“. Actually the twist obviously comes from the Ferrand finish. This works really well here and beautifully enhance the base profile. For me 2nd place (blind) Cheers to Jakob!

RumX Community Tasting Fiji 2001. A nose of burnt caramel, buttery, slightly sharp aldehydes, esters. The start of the palate is also a bit sharp, the alcohol is not very well integrated and the caramel is too present. The finish is quite long on bitter caramel, wood with beautiful bitters. A rum I found disappointing, one-dimensional and a bit sharp.

Nose full of esters. On the palate, esters are complemented by fruit and caramel. Powerful. Funky. A little dirty. The finish brings a sensation of burnt leather. Top-notch. Really well done. Edit: powerful. But really good.

Fiji 2001 Community Tasting – big thanks to Jakob for organizing this blind tasting. A great vintage and a comparison not without surprises. The bottom of the pack for me were the two Rum Artesanal, both of which I didn't finish. Particularly disturbing was an unpleasant juniper off-note (strongly pronounced in rx15398, somewhat better but still disturbing in rx7779). Then for me the actual bottom (so very good / with the right markers), but just not as great as the others, was Rum Cask rx479. Surprisingly, the next place for me was Isla del Ron, which already has a small reference status in my heart since I tried it. But in the blind test it was overtaken by the delicious Whisky Jury (rx13025) and then by the sensational Cave Guildive (rx1717). The Cave Guildive represents for me the winner of the classic Fiji 2002 profile and is really top. I rated higher only the Flag LMDW Antipodes (rx13440) ... this one is clearly woodier but also ultra delicious. It was also clearly recognizable blind and made the photo finish just millimeters behind the Plantation rx11133, which probably stood out because it was so un-Fiji2001 and has a great glue-caramel Guyana nose. Conclusion: Typical Fiji winners are the Cave Guildive on the fruity-honey-feelgood side and the Flag on the woody side. The Plantation is the wildcard winner. The two RA bottlings are the ones that remain far below the level of the other two.

Plantation can sometimes produce real gems, like this rum. The nose is very elaborate and shows complexity and generosity. The cognac cask brought its little touch of elegance with dried fruits (raisin, apricot), while the heavy profile of the Fiji 2001 is felt with presence: esters, glue, varnish, pepper, herbal notes, black tea, tropical fruits, mild spices and leather offer a beautiful olfactory spectacle. A nose that stands out from other examples of the 2001 Vintage. The attack on the palate is intense but very aromatic. You perceive a lot of fruits (tropical, dried fruits, citrus, red fruits) that give body to the profile. The cognac cask makes the difference with this finesse. We also find spices (cinnamon, pepper, chili, vanilla), leather, woody notes on the smoky side, empyreumatic notes (rubber) and medicinal (phenols). The alcohol is present but very well integrated for the displayed strength. A powerful but very sophisticated rum. The finish is long, tannic, medicinal with a touch of cognac, dried and exotic fruits. The oak goes on spicy and smoky notes that fit perfectly the profile, both lively and gourmand. A very balanced, tasty and insanely complex profile.

Wow! Ester and glue! Really powerful and intense. Blind I would never have come up with a Fiji. Rather in the direction of Clarendon.The 2001 vintages for me in the rating very similar. In taste they have little to do with the young.

Addendum: RumX Community Cross-Tasting “Fiji 2001” (by Jakob): Wow! The Cognac finish gives the already good base spirit an elegant and drinkable note. In the line-up and that evening, it is for me the absolute winner, even before the Flag. The sweetness is on the edge and theoretically it would be possible that it would become rather “boring” to me over time than the Flag, which comes with more edges and corners. I can only find that out if I somehow get a whole bottle...

Fiji from 2001 is and remains a class of its own. The only thing missing for an absolute top spot is a bit of the heaviness of the teenotes, otherwise there's already a lot on offer aromatically: rich fruit aromas, floral notes, some cask influence, spices, chamomile, tea, medicinal hints... complexity is definitely not lacking. The alcohol is also very well integrated, an excellent rum that remains present and exciting – so much is happening here, with every new sip new nuances emerge. Top.

Brutal nose, really hard to assign anything here! After 2 hours in the glass the rum opens up! And how, intense, spicy, heavy, not as fruity as the RA Fiji 2001 and the IdR Fiji 2001. But definitely Fiji! On the palate it really shows its strength again! Ester, bicycle tube, burnt notes, heavy cask notes, sage and papaya! The 65.4% are well integrated but this thing is really for advanced drinkers! It really delivers and is no easy sipper! Very impressive - a long finish, the sweet, metallic Fiji notes come through wonderfully again! Very very good Fiji but not for the faint-hearted! Nerd stuff! Cross Tasting RA Fiji 2001 - 04/21 - 62.8% - 89 points Isla del Ron 2001/2020 - 57.2% - 92 points Plantation Fiji 2001/2020 - 65.4% - 91 points

Simply incredible... An exceptional rum marked by a long aging that offers sublime woodiness. The rum is rich, phenolic woody, slightly herbal but above all very, very fruity... Some notes on the palate remind me of Appleton Estate 1984/2003 or even the hydrocarbon of a Caroni. Obviously, rubber is also part of it as well as the esters, but it's a delight.

Crosstasting with Jakob and some forum members on 25.4.2024. Place 1… No way more than RX13440 is possible. This Fiji rightly won. Like with the 13440, everything fits together here. It was just a bit tastier.

Stunning, very harmonious nose. On the palate, it's fully present, the whole fruit basket. Great oily mouthfeel. The alcohol is perfectly integrated and everything is very harmonious. Truly a top Fiji representative!

I find the description Guyana-esque Fiji actually quite fitting. Great rum, overall the cask influence covers the rum's basic character too much for me, the balance is clearly better with the Antipodes.

Saturday sunny afternoon 40 min aeration, we’re going to have a good time, Super feat from Plantation with a must-have from Fiji islands. On the nose lots of fruit even if we find the herbal and chamber air side known from Fijians, Leather and esters, alcohol perfectly integrated given its quite high degree, I love it.

Beau ton acajou, le nez est dingue d’aromatique et de gourmandise. Pâtissier et Funky à la manière d’un Jamaïcain, enfin Tofee et ester. La bouche est au chocolat noir et aussi lait, pâtissier et encore bien Funky, avec toujours du Tofee. En bouche ça se prolonge plutôt longtemps avec beaucoup de plaisir.
