Here's the surprise: for a Barceló, this one reads drier than you'd expect. Caramel and vanilla lead the nose, then dark dried fruit — prunes and raisins — with tobacco, a nutty edge and only light wood. One taster called it "surprisingly complex and full-bodied." Not a heavy hitter, but the best Barceló several people here have tried, and a comfortable dessert-side sipper.

Clearly more pleasing than the 30-year edition. Nice caramel notes, some vanilla, dark dried fruits, hardly any wood. Only the alcohol feels briefly a bit dominant in the aftertaste, but really only very briefly. I like it a lot.

Retasting and leaving the original note 😊 This is a pretty reasonable rum that could do well for deserts in my mind. The nose starts out with sweet caramel and fruits followed with vanilla and light wood. Tha palate is lightly dry with fruit, caramel and spices. The lightly dry palate also serves up ginger nuts and tobacco with some oak. The finish is medium long with oak and raisin followed by licorice and some tobacco. Price to quality is kind of OK thinking that this is an anniversary release.

Excellent Dominican Rum

Surprisingly dry and tasty Barcelo and a super nice color! Great nose of coconut, cinnamon, tobacco and prunes. On the palate there is ginger, honey, some fresh citrus fruit, slightly nutty and spicy, plus prunes and raisins and again tobacco, as well as dark chocolate. All in all, amazingly complex and full-bodied, it is quite certain to be unsweetened. A positive surprise.
