Dugas T.D.L La Maison du Rhum #4 2009
One member called it "Nice, moldy, warmed my heart in a cold Berlin weather" — which sums up its cozy TDL side well. Expect that unmistakable Trinidad mint, plus wood, tobacco, leather and a little tropical fruit and caramel. Several tasters note real smoke and even a bacon edge on the finish. It drinks lighter than its 55%, but people agree it lacks the depth of top TDL vintages.

How does Dugas T.D.L La Maison du Rhum #4 2009 taste?
Summarized by AI from community reviews.
Minty, woody Trinidad easy sipper A well-liked, easy-drinking Trinidad with signature mint, wood and tobacco. Most call the value excellent; the common catch is a short finish and less depth than the best TDL bottlings.

While the Plantation One Time Limited Trinidad 2009 experienced a bit of a hype, the La Maison du Rhum bottling always flew somewhat under the radar. Unjustly, in my opinion. I already liked it at GRF 2022. I tried it right after the RdL and Cadenhead 2002 and it can surprisingly keep up. The floral notes are more herbal and not so pronounced, similarly for the yellow fruit, which is not a juicy peach. It lacks some depth. Herbs and fruit are accompanied by delicate smoke, orange soda, some tobacco and vanilla, tropical fruits (mango), the idea of Solero ice cream. On the palate lighter than the Cadenhead at the same strength. Still a nice TDL profile with herbs and now mostly tropical fruits. Towards the finish comes a wild smoky bacon note. Nose - palate - finish, the profile remains very similar (except the bacon). I like the rum (prefer it to the Plantation). A very nice easy sipper from Trinidad. The price-performance ratio is excellent!

Fantastic daily sipper with great PLV. TDL typical mint with some fruit, but more wood and spice. Nevertheless, it lacks the depth and complexity compared to the TDL top shots from the various vintages after 2000.

A good selection combining heaviness and freshness. In line with the TDL Excellence rum with notes of coffee and red fruits. Two nice expressions of what Trinidad can produce outside of Caroni without having to be ashamed. Superb value for money.

End of the day. On the nose, there's immediately some mint, but also quite woody, with leather and tobacco in there too. On the palate, lots of mint as well, the first sips are quite diluted, but that settled down. Then tobacco, leather, and wood come back again.

An exceptional value for money nowadays when prices have gone crazy. A superb bottle, with a profile slightly different from the current TDLs. You will find elegant woodiness, a caramel that is not cloying at all, and notes of citrus with a slight menthol, on a lot of tobacco on the palate. I also smell a lot of floral notes on the nose. It's superb.

31.10.2025 Tasted at the wedding of Tom. -------- This release was better. A well balanced rum with a fruity nose followed by leather, caramel and vanilla after resting the wood and medicinal get clearer. The palate is also pretty good with fruit, vanilla and caramel in the front followed by tobacco, cinnamon and menthol. There is a very light note of tannins and a medicinal hint. The finish is medium long with spices and wood followed by dried fruit and tobacco. Price to quality is very good.

Nice rum, good value for money. Sweet fruity notes with some wood. Medium dry finish.

Excellent value for money. All the markers of a good TDL, the exotic fruity type Christmas basket mixed, on the well-ripe side, the sweet woody notes, the crushed vanilla pod. The characteristic spicy sting on the palate, a burnt caramel juice that evolves into roasted pineapple then towards a more mentholated side. An empty glass that smells like the bottom of a slightly overcooked caramel pot, with licorice, leather, and barrel wood. The final tasting note is not so far from a Samaroli Fernandes or a Nobilis Caksus in the same style, without the weight of years, nor the length on the palate, nor the concentration of flavor.

My RumRatings review from 4 years ago: The rum is quite intense on the nose. After opening, the rum needs 30 minutes to lose the alcoholic note. Then the rum shows a nice sweetness with lots of tropical fruit and bourbon notes. The wood has a big influence. But it also has a slightly dirty note with smoke. On the palate, the rum has a pleasant body. The tropical fruits come first. The rum is initially sweet. Candied fruits and vanilla. Then the cask follows with a smoky bourbon note. The TDL aromas are there, also some mint. But the cask influence is already very strong. Some tannins, bourbon and smoke dominate the finish. The rum retains a certain sweetness. The La Maison du Rhum Trinidad is a very good sipper for 60 euros. It’s not too demanding without being boring. The TDL aromas are there and you can tell it’s a Trinidad rum. It can easily keep up with the Plantation One Time Limited Trinidad 2009, although or precisely because it’s different.

Exciting TDL with round sweetness, green tobacco notes as well as wood and spices, which are paired with mint flavors on the palate. Overall, an interesting, if not mind-blowing, melange that has few rough edges, making it a nice entry into the Trinidad spectrum away from the pure focus on Spanish style.

Perfectly sweet and rounded Trinidad from LMDR. A big step better than batch 5. Technicality, wood and tobacco in the nose with classic mint on the palate after sipping, which I expect from Trinidad. At the end also a bit of classic Trinidad spice. Very nice.

V2 80 V1 85 Fruity molasses nose, stewed fruit. Lightness on the palate. Clearly dirty, smoky, wow, surprising, reduced but effective. Pretty good value for money.

Beautiful minty bottle under 100 euros. You can feel the alcohol, but very drinkable. I recommend it even to beginner rum lovers to discover new flavors. Mint from TDL is an unmistakable taste that you will never get tired of..

A slightly closed nose at first, even alcoholic. With opening up, yellow fruits, a light and controlled caramel, a screen of smoke. The smoke takes up more and more space with aeration. On the palate, the level rises, the fruits, the caramel and still the smoke. The menthol is present, even some red fruits and a garage side. Nice finish. A great bottling, I'm surprised!

Vintage 2009. I rate it 8.5 out of 10, an excellent rum that ranks high even among my more than 1,300 ratings.

Quite heavy and dark TDL with lovely minty notes. It has quite short finish. Everyday sipper 👍

31-07-2025 - Rate 7.5 Tasted this bottle when it came out. Remembered it differently from this tasting. A nice TDL, but with a continental wibe over it. Nice ABV but does not taste like 55%. Very smooth and round in taste. Notes of wood, tobacco and a hint of tar. Palate the same with some leather and tropical fruit. Short finish with spices and tar. 01-01-2026 - Rate 7.8
