The surprise here is how little fruit shows up for a 30-year Port Mourant — several tasters find the oak has taken over. Expect big toasted wood, licorice and anise, dark chocolate, tobacco and an oily, slightly "dirty" mouthfeel. One reviewer got green apple and marzipan on the nose; others say it dried out and sat past its peak. Long, tannic, dry finish.

This ia a very nice release and a very well balanced profile. Lightly fruity with some licorice in the profile and I really like the balance with the roasted wood notes and the oiliness on the palate. Price to quality can be argued but it is a good rum nonetheless.
