Nobilis Bellevue No. 11 1998
Sip this one neat and give it time to open — it's a 23-year-old molasses Bellevue from Guadeloupe that drinks dry and woody, with licorice, caramel, dark chocolate, tobacco and a faint Caroni-like tar that several tasters point out. Plenty of dried fruit and orange peel sit underneath. The 55% is so well-tucked some guessed it nearer 45%.

How does Nobilis Bellevue No. 11 1998 taste?
Aggregated from 70 community reviews.
Dry, woody old Guadeloupe with licorice and tar Loved by the 1998 Bellevue crowd for its wood, spice and tar notes and beautifully buried alcohol. A few find it too woody and bitter, and some say the nose lags behind the palate.

Very lovely delicious rum from bellevue. Some really caroni like tastes of tar. The wood of the barrel is dominant, but the alcohol is integrated well (seems like 45%). Overall a very nice bottle from nobilis. Nose: Tar, licorice, spicy, nutty, roasted, almond, walnut, caramel, apple, orange, plum, mango, herbal, floral Mouth: round, elegant, delicious, full bodied, dry, oily, complex, balanced, strong, tar, caramel, tobacco, licorice, roasted, ginger, dark chocolate, spicy, roasted nuts, woody(oak) Finish: long; dry, delicious, woody(oak), licorice, roasted nuts, dark chocolate, tobacco, black tea

Blind sample. I smelled Guadeloupe. But that was the end of it. Superb rum, full of gourmandise. Everything is very well balanced, it's super well done. The wood added complexity, marrying perfectly with the freshness of the cane and some fruit. Premier Bellevue 98, superb. I can understand the craze for these bottlings.

After the rum has breathed a bit dominates a wonderful note of warm, fine cocoa powder (Bensdorp in Austria), then tropical fruit and earth. Very, very nice!!! In the mouth crisp, dried mango, lots of spices. Complex, very well integrated alcohol. Mega finish, long and tingly. Very reminiscent of the 1980 Velier, which is a bit fuller and woodier. I actually like this one better. A really great rum!!! Thanks to Bonn for the sample! So, now I make in February times rum break ...

Incredibly beautiful and exciting '98 Bellevue! Rarely experienced such an intense aroma of orange peel, bitter orange, lavender, dark chocolate, mocha, black tea and a little pear. Truly a real treat!😋👌🏼
Review by Frank
A nice old Guadeloupe with pleasant ABV. Nose: elegant and aromatic. Woody and spicy, with rather dark, malty nuances at the beginning. There are dark chocolate, discreet brown sugar and toffee, but besides that also fruity with black currant and old dried blood orange. I also find light smoke and then neat vanilla and soft licorice. Beautiful round nose. 90 Palate: neat woody-spicy-roasty without being too woody. Intense and powerful but also very aromatic. Slightly bitter at the start, then immediately something slightly fruity but still muted towards blackcurrant with candied orange peel. Lightly and not obtrusively spicy with nutmeg, pepper and licorice. Black tea comes in at the back. I also like it very much. 88 Excellent

I was rather disappointed with the Nobilis releases in mid 2021, but this Bellevue takes me again fully - both on the nose and on the palate!

The nose is bold and seductive. Chocolate and roasted notes are present. Rather fresh and powerful. And it's very fruity (apple-dry fruit-tropical fruit). Wahooo it's great, let's get on with the tasting! On the palate, it's perfectly balanced. The fruitiness of the nose comes through (pineapple, banana, red fruit...) but to a lesser extent than the nose (as is often the case with agricultural products). Coffee, chocolate, burnt sugar and fine, noble wood (not the kind you get at Ikea). The finish is rather complex and exciting, with ripe banana, fresh mint and a wave of spices. This Guadeloupe is really good! Another fine selection from Nobilis! Thanks Yannis for sharing. Without a doubt, this is my best Gwada 1998 to date.

Once rested this is a good rum especially when looking at the price tag. Fruity with some wood, wood spices and licorice. Put on top of that some caramel, tar and tobacco and a pinch of tea.

Taste and finish much better than in the nose. The polish in the nose is such a mixture of ashtrays in a workshop next to the open polish is not at all inviting to drink. In addition, there are the cheese feet of the mechanic. If you dare, you will be surprised in the taste of orange and ginger served on the finest wood. This is joined by dark chocolate. Especially cool is the finish, the mixture of wood and citrus harmonizes extremely well. The lousy nose spoils a top score.

Really good! Almost too round without corners and edges.

I like this one much better than the previous Guadeloupe. In any case, the alcohol is perfectly integrated here. Otherwise, a very herbal nose, as well as caramel, licorice and wood. On the palate, I find it predominantly woody, but also toasty and dark chocolate.

01-02-2025 Nobilis Warehouse Tasting #2 - Rum 2 Bellevue at its best. Very nice rum. Interesting to taste a Bellevue rum made on molasses. Love the aftertaste and the good match between rum and ABV.
Review by TheRhumhoe
A fine bottling of Guadeloupe rum. The nose is very seductive, with notes of fruit (apple, raisin, mango, papaya), herbs and flowers, spices (pepper, licorice, vanilla), dark notes (chocolate), bitterness (caramel) and wood. A touch of polish tones the nostrils. The profile is complete and well-balanced, with a beautiful harmony of aromas. A truly pleasant rum to smell. The attack on the palate is smooth, with burnt caramel, dark chocolate, roasted nuts and barrel woodiness. Spices (licorice, salt, chili, pepper, vanilla) accompany the earthy notes (tobacco) and tea notes that emerge on the mid- and finish. The profile is less fruity than the nose, but allows some fruit to express itself (orange, apple, dried dates and exotic fruit). The alcohol is well integrated into this round, sensual and complex profile. The finish loses vitality, fading rather quickly despite a few piercing aromas. Dark, woody, caramelized and spicy notes wrestle with fruit and herbaceous notes in a rather dry, thin landscape. Clearly the Achilles' heel of this rum, it nevertheless boasts undeniable qualities for its age, both olfactory and gustatory.

The Nobilis pleases. A nice nose with dried fruit, plum, apple, grape. Sweet notes of caramel and spices. The palate is dominated by wood and spices and bitter notes.

Great Bellevue. Dark fruit meets fresh citrus notes, heavy chocolate sweetness, wood, tobacco and leather. Exquisite from nose to finish.

In the nose still predominantly fruity and floral with some spice come here on the palate with time more and more notes ofTabak in the foreground. In the nose it remains fruity and quite round. A nice bottling 🙂

Second tasting: now I also have the herbal notes in the nose. But it does not come close to the RA (RX12189). Nose: wow, what a sweetness this is! Karemelized fruit with maple syrup. Very awesome!Palate: not as sweet as the nose suggests. Very balanced and super integrated alcohol. Finish: medium long and very harmonious and complex. This is the best 98 Bellevue I've tasted so far. Great transformation of sweet nose, sweetness and spice on the palate and spicy finish.

Lovely, great woody, spicy and bitter notes in the mouth. A little green in the nose but no floral notes in the mouth which works great for me as I’m not the biggest fan of those.
