Nose tempting (mango), palate relatively bitter, you could also say: expressive. Update 10.06.2022: What I called "expressive" two months ago, I now find just a persistent mortar taste, even after an hour. Unfortunately, I can't find out if it was due to the day's condition since the sample is empty. But actually, I don't want to try the rum anymore. 🥴 After the Bellamy's REV 1994 27yo the day before yesterday, today again a deduction from a solid 4 points 🤷♂️. But nothing is set in stone, not even in the rum world. Cheers! 🥃 Update 2025-08-13: Nope, if any fundamentally high-quality rum doesn't convince me at all, it's this one. Doesn't get better even on the 3rd tasting. Still, many thanks to Nivius for the sample.

#4734 05.06.2024 A nice afternoon with Michael and a few good rums. Nose Wood, light tannins, mint, light olives, anise, petrol, faint plum, faint glue. Palate Warm, wood, tannins, light dried fruit, faint prunes, varnish, faint glue, edgy, medium dry, light olive, faint licorice. Finish Medium to long, warm, wood, tannins, light mint, raisin, varnish, light glue, medium dry, light tar. This rums has some "edges" but still manages to pull it off. Needs to rest for a good while to really open up those flavours.

Second tasting: remarkably intense on the nose and palate. On the palate I also find a nice malty sweetness, rating 3This rum has a pronounced bitterness on the palate and in the aftertaste. Along with that comes black tea and dark chocolate (with at least 85% cacao). Not so easily accessible but still very good and powerful Port Mourant profile.

Interesting, but with too strong a fresh tobacco note at the back, which is almost peaty. For me personally, this is a field of aromas that I find less appealing in rum profiles - especially in more delicate distillates. The basic quality remains undisputed, but my subjective preferences force me to deduct points here.

#14th dec RumXCalendar Blind tasting: Nose: glue, herbal, anise, vanilla, woody, fruity, mango, grapefruit Mouth: fruity, grapefruit, herbal, tea, cardamom, dark chocolate, vanilla, oak, barrel Finish: long, oak, woody, tannins, leather, smoky, herbal, black tea I enjoyed this one a lot. Full body, elegant, balanced, extremely delicious. The alcohol is integrated very well. This is from Guyana, Uitvlugt, for sure ca.55% approx. 20 Years

Wow, that was unexpectedly good. I did not anticipate the flavor intensity, and the flavours changing from nose to taste and aftertaste. Also it is quite woody, but not the usual dark color, that comes with guyanese rums ... All in all it is very good, but nothing to have every day: you need to drink this with the appropriate time.

On the nose yellow peach, anise and fennel. What also strikes me is a slightly sour note, maybe towards sourdough (I didn’t even know that was included in the selection). On the palate quite bitter: black tea, tobacco, old barrel. That’s how it goes into the finish with plenty of tannins. Not bad, but also no top-notch PM. Especially on the palate the barrel dominates quite strongly.

Color-wise it goes towards Yellow Muscatel. Herbs, spices, some tropical fruit, honey and glue on the nose. Very spicy in the mouth. Pepper!!! Peppery spice and honey in the long finish. The profile of continentally aged PMs doesn't really excite. Why do we drink rum and not whisky in this forum? Because tropical aging is awesome! 🤩🤩🤩 Thanks to Bonn for this interesting sample!!

A rather soft and easy-to-approach Uitvlugt PM, starting gently on the nose with lots of spices, tropical fruits, herbs, and damp wood. You can tell the age has softened the rustic character of the Port Mourant, because despite the typical bitterness (leather, herbs, damp wood, tea, spices including notably anise and licorice), it remains accessible, though a bit diluted. The finish is medium length, still marked by the pot still profile with tobacco, tea, herbs, bitterness, leather, spices, and dark chocolate. A well-matured old rum thanks to its long aging, which makes a good entry point for this very particular type of rum.

A very pleasant elegant nose with delicate fruit and something old clinging to it, but in a positive sense.... The palate is dark, heavy and slightly bitter... but not disturbing... (the wood influence is noticeable) The finish as well... A very good rum, lacking a bit of complexity to reach higher levels.

Fuzzy on the tongue with slightly bitter (delicious) woody notes. Very astringent finish with tobacco to black tea in the aftertaste. On the nose, glue with anise. Overall, I miss some fruit notes and the nose is slightly sharp, which luckily doesn't reflect in the taste.

RumX Advent calendar 2022: wonderful PM profile just as I love it! Lots of dried plum paired with tea, leather, wood, dark chocolate and caramel. The finish really lasts surprisingly long. Alcohol excellently integrated!

Blind tasted in the RumX Advent calendar on 14.12.22 Port Mourant was immediately clear to me. The important markers are there and the rum is very tasty. I really liked the salty note here, which in the finish turned into a smoky minerality that reminded me a bit of mezcals. A nice Port Mourant
