Nose it blind and you'd swear it was Caroni — that dirty, mentholated tar throws almost everyone off before it reveals itself as an old Enmore wooden-still Demerara. Leather, dried plum, dark chocolate and licorice sit on a base of heavy roasted oak, with a cooling mint streak cutting through. Twenty-nine years in the barrel left it dry and properly bitter; the wood runs the show, especially on the finish.

Very nice color in the glass! After the nose, I thought we were visiting the Caroni Distillery but it's too bitter and not enough tar/diesel/car repair shop. I think today we have a really old Guyana Enmore KFM in the glass and because of the intense bitterness, I guess RX7441. Resolution: another good KFM from 1991 than expected. I had even tasted this one before and rated it 8.5. It's borderline bitter.

RumX Advent calendar 2024 door no. 8: Consistently grassy, dark, woody and spicy on the nose and palate. When it has opened up a little, the nose becomes a little fruitier and the taste a little dirtier. Very dry.

It‘s a good one! Maybe it‘s diluted, because i was missing the power… the finish is really short, only the wood notes remain. Very impressive enmore nose, fruity, woody, nutty, leather, some fresh minty/licorice notes and a lot of rubber. Lovely nose😍 All these notes continues in mouth. In addition i found some notes of apricots. The finish is quite unspectacular short. All these notes disapper after some seconds, the wood is the only taste which remains. It‘s a good KFM 91, but can‘t keep up with the KFM‘s from Flensburg.

Too woody for me, especially on the finish. Update 2023-08-19: Today probably the more suitable, because tropical outdoor temperature for tasting. After 30 min of breathing the tropical big city broth, the old rum presents itself clearly oily and only a little woody astringent, but still relatively bitter and not a bit fruity. So you can get one point more out under optimal conditions 😉.

Dry and wet wood. On the nose, smells of wood polish and turpentine. Taste-wise, I also had gas notes. Decent bitterness in the mouth, also rubber and pencil...a dirty Versailles. Overall less good than the Flensburg, but still very good.

Update 2025/01/01: Today in crosstasting with the Isla MEC from 1988. The oxidation has already clearly affected the sample. Less fruity compared to the Isla. The smokiness is still clearly noticeable. It is no longer as aggressive as in the fresh rum. The acidity has also decreased in the mouth. Compared to the Isla, the strong dried plum, red fruit and fruit compote with gravy that is so typical of the old Demeraras and is fully present in the Isla is missing. On the other hand, it has a nice strong side that Isla lacks somewhat. On the finish, the umami and stewed fruit flavor that I missed in my mouth comes through for another visit. Still a great rum, in my opinion criminally undervalued here. No update of the rating due to the strong oxidation Original 2022/10/12:The third KFM after the new FRC and the RA. As little fruit as the FRC, but less inviting: more polish and varnish, less herbs and tea, the smoky note is more reminiscent of ashtrays. In the mouth, it is more balanced and yet it has a surprising and rather unpleasant acidity, which also intensifies the bitterness. This is criticism at the highest level; this KFM is also a great rum. I find the FRC noticeably better because it is more balanced and more intense, and it is on a par with the RA.

Advent calendar RumX 2024, door number 8, 2nd Advent Very dirty and menthol-y and it intuitively suggests a Caroni tip, but I would still tend more towards a KFM. Especially on the palate I think this profile is more noticeable than an HTR. My tip: KFM 91

On the verge of becoming too bitter due to the roasted notes. Still pleases thanks to the spicy notes. Interesting bottling, for which it is not enough to the KFM throne, but which still knows how to please.

Day 8 RumX Advent calendar And once again I was completely wrong. My first intuition was that it could be a Caroni, but it wasn't. I would never have guessed KFM. I always remembered them much brighter. But this one was extremely dark and didn't have those herbs as present as some others, but instead had a dirty note. Tough luck, but still very tasty.

RumX Advent Calendar, Day 8. A nose with lots of dark wood, smoke and varnish, but also extraordinary freshness, with menthol balancing it all out. I also smell prunes. The palate attacks straight away with dark, woody aromas and, as on the nose, menthol gives a great freshness that counterbalances the wood. The finish is mainly woody, as the menthol has evaporated, and is moderately long, but above all one-sided and monolithic. A well-balanced rum that lacks aromatic complexity.

Really well made and not too blatantly bitter KFM 91! Here I would have blindly guessed an old Clarendon first, crazy. Great combination of sour cherry, dried plum, licorice, dark chocolate, old leather, very subtle violets and lavender, strong mocha and lots of essential oils such as menthol but also spruce and pine needles, like a sauna infusion. 🧖🏼♂️🌲 Rather bitter and fresh on the finish. Great bottling! On a par with the equally grandiose Bellamy's 1991 KFM in direct comparison, only slightly fruitier.

One should always taste with longer pauses high-quality rum, then the aha effect is much greater 🥹Nose: intense, full-bodied, beautiful! Woody-spicy-roasty-fruity. Strong-sweet comes the oak barrel, followed by vanilla pipe tobacco and soft, sweet Danish licorice. Plus juicy dried plum and sweet-tart dried blackcurrant with some caramel. It's dark, slightly bacony-smoky and malty-roasty. A really nice and full bouquet.Palate: wow, intense and powerful on the palate too, nice woody-roasty-spicy. First something malty-salty and woody-acidic with iodine. Spices in the direction of nutmeg, maggi and umami. Something slightly dirty, like rubber with tar pushes forward, which fits very well. Tart nut is also there.Really round. Very good

A very leathery smell with strong herbs and licorice rises intensely to the nose. These notes are even more intense in taste with a very pronounced bitter note. This also lingers long on the finish. Otherwise lots of leather, slightly chocolaty and pencil. Also has something of caramel malt. Overall it tastes very light. A rum that divides opinions. You either love it or hate it. I like it very much.

RumX Advent calendar day 8: Here we have a great Enmore. The wood is immediately noticeable on the nose. Leather and dark chocolate are also recognizable. On the palate, in addition to leather and wood, there is also dark chocolate and mocha.

On aeration, other dried fruits join like dates and raisins, some cherries, the molasses is dark with licorice and black tea, slightly herbaceous, coffee and roasted nuts make the complexity deeper. 8,6:On the palate, the attack is intense with menthol and roasted wood notes, barrel impact is strong, like chocolate, Demerara sugar, roasted nuts, later nuts, caramel and mocha, leather, pastry, spicy and oaky. The molasses is flowery, dark with licorice and black tea, slightly herbaceous, on oxidation the rum becomes fruitier with prunes, apricots, some citrus and perhaps plums. 8,6:The finish is long, dry and tannic, slightly medicinal, as roasted, spicy wood notes, with strong oak presence, pair dried and tropical fruits, cherries. So different can be barrels... While I still raved about the Artesanal rum yesterday, the direct brother disappoints me but very much. Here the characteristics of the KFMs come through fully, which I generally do not like: woody, bitter and somehow even flat. The nose is much less enticing than the RA, as overall less powerful, not as sweet are the bold note of prune is present, but not taking up all the room like the RA. The palate for me is mostly a smorgasbord of bitter tones, leaving little room for anything else. Even the finish is flatter, hinting at a few tones of dark chocolate at most, in addition to bitter mocha and wood.

What a wonderful nose, heavy dark spicy, with prunes, leather, wood and some fresh mint. The palate can't quite keep up... the barrel impact is too strong! Otherwise the palate follows the nose, wonderful! The finish is long and pleasant, with prunes returning at the end! However, the RA is still the best of the KFMs for me at the moment

The Nobilis has to prove itself today against the Flens KFM 91/21. Both with a nice nose of dried fruit, herbs, leather and toffee. The Nobilis comes minimally more about licorice, the Flens a little more about the dried fruit. On the palate, but especially on the finish, the Nobilis does come more over the wood barrel and is a bit more bitter. The Flens can score here with a better balance of nutmeg and caramel. Overall, in this respect, one point less than the Flens.

Advent calendar #8: The typical Caroni aromas on the nose, but they fade after a while. What remains is a lot of wood, tannins and, for me, Amarena cherries in the background. No more Caroni for me on the palate, it lacks "dirtiness" Overall very bitter, but that doesn't bother me here.

Very much in the dark / woody / roasted side of the spectrum. Personally I think this has been bottled at a very nice point. However, I appreciate that this profile is not right for every taste and might be considered to bitter/wood forward.

Well hello dirtiness… Fist impression options: Caroni A dirty TDL one of the “Demaroni” rums Could the Clarendoni bottle (RX16068) be an option? Haven’t tasted that one myself. I was just thinking about “weird” Caroni bottles and that one popped in my mind. In the mouth for me the rubber/tar/dirty/workshop notes are dominant, evolving to wood and some menthol in the finish. Personally I’m tending more towards a dirty-type Caroni. Can’t say if it has ever been in my glass or not 😅 lets find that out at 21h. It will probably be some kind of mindfuck 😂 After Serge’s suggestion: 1991 KFM That could work indeed. The KFM stands out in a Guyana as well as in a Caroni line-up, sitting somewhere in between. Now a little bit sweetness up front evolving to burnt wood… Well done Serge 👏 PS: nice rum for the 400th tasting in the app 🥳

While the nose still reminds a bit of Caroni, the palate then reveals the dried plum. Many dark aromas, almost no sweetness and pleasant menthol make this rum a really good KFM. For me personally the finish is a bit too bitter and woody.

Very bitter, woody, soapy, a little menthol. Not a bad rum in terms of quality. Alcohol well integrated. But 1991 KFM is simply not mine. The finish of the Nobilis bottling is still the most interesting. Very long with a slightly fruity (plum) note.

... Enmore - drive distillery, now just a functional distillation device. Probably the only wooden distillation device in the world that enjoys great popularity. Enmore rums have flavors of ash, leather, heavy wood, which especially excite lovers of smoky whiskies. And if the producer adds a bit of molasses to the rum in the traditional Guyanese way, you have a unique, very strong and heavy rum in the bottle. One of my favorites.

Thinking about the price tag on this bottle it actually disappointed me a little. Not even close to the Flensburg KFM with the same year and age. The wood is there which is normal in such an old rum. Spicy and warm on the palate with fruits and a hint of chocolate and licorice. This is of course my opinion, but I had expected more :-)

This bottle is without merit or fault, but the price is out of line and too high. "KFM" probably means mostly ester-rich Versailles, maybe. This one is full of excessive bitterness and chaos. Additionally, there is something wrong with the management of the cask/aging because woddy elements is inappropriate. poor and pity

RumX Calendar 2024 Day 8: Exciting nose, cherry, dark wood, tending towards Armagnac. Now more light fruits in the direction of apple? Calvados? Wtf? The apples remain on the palate, I assume Calvados cask. Roasted notes, wood, nicely integrated alcohol. Develops more dirty and slightly bitter. Tannins. I really like it! Exciting how it develops and the complexity comes. Old Enmore in a Calva cask? Unfortunately only a little weak in the finish.

Day 8 of the RumX advent calendar: Powerful oak, roasty to burnt and properly treated with furniture polish, dominates the first impression. With air access, the aroma spectrum opens up considerably and many spices and aromas of tobacco and leather emerge, although I think the fruit aromas could be a little stronger.

A very interesting Enmore that completely changes from nose to palate. The nose is wonderfully spicy and fruity with lots of herbs. Leather, barrel, herbs, licorice, coffee, dried plum, wood, dried fruits, and spices make the nose very complex. Dark chocolate and oak play a bit in the background. At first, I get the impression of a lighter version of Caroni The Beast #3. The palate is then intensely spicy and characterized by leather and machine oil. Wood, leather, spices, bitter barrel notes, licorice, mocha, burnt hints, and rubber lead over to menthol, sulfur, dried fruits, and dark chocolate. The prevailing bitterness possibly suggests a way too long time in the barrel. The long and multi-layered finish has wood, spices, leather, bitter barrel notes, licorice, dried plum, dark chocolate, roasted notes, and mocha. Anise, tannins, and oak also add complexity. I find the flavor development/change very exciting and the alcohol content supports the spicy side well. Thanks to @Skyfly for the interesting sample 😀

An absolute grenade. Very tasty. Love KFM 1991. was also quite clear... the first time in the calendar😅. Nice and dark, eucalyptus, menthol and floral notes. Plus lots of wood. Top. I also picked up a KFM from RA. I actually like this one a little better. But still a very great rum.

Day 8 RumX Advent calendar Here we find dirty burnt notes. But also very subtle red fruits. I also find coffee. The rum changes by the minute. Very exciting. The taste and finish are very woody and burnt. I actually like it very much.

As soon as I opened the bottle, I thought "Guyana"? And on closer inspection, I was quite surprised by the initial floral notes, which fade with aeration. On the palate, the attack is very briefly fresh and lively, then quickly moves on to the dark aromas typical of these rums. I also appreciated the presence of a ginger/pepper-like spiciness, and the long finish with walnut and vanilla. Tasted blind, I went for a Guyana +20 years old with 55° alcohol.

Tasted with its 29-year-old twin from FRC. Its heavy woody spicy nose is freshened by herbal notes, plus dried plum. On the palate really bitter, with a good shot of menthol and rubber. For me, the main difference is in the nose, I like the FRC better there, it’s fruitier, heavier, oilier. Awesome stuff anyway. 😊

A light caroni Is what comes to my mind, with those tar and diesel notes that are easy to find both in nose and palate. I think of a partial tropical ageing, or of a reduced version. Might be 1983 or 1997 release

More fruity on the nose than on the palate. Typical KFM bitterness that you have to like. I like it though. Well balanced and spicy, but not the king of KFMs in my opinion. In direct comparison, the alcohol is very soft on the palate.
