Old Brothers Hampden Jamaican Rum (The Nectar) HJF 2002

"Glue, tropical fruits and bubblegum" is how one taster summed it up, and that fits. This 18-year Hampden HJF leans banana over pineapple, with varnish, baking spices, roasted pastry and a fresh minty finish. Tasters love the fruit and the tidy alcohol integration; a few note the 53.6% reads a touch watery for a cask-strength Hampden.

Recht dunkel für sein Alter. Erstaunlich fruchtig in der Nase. Schaum-Bananen, fast schon Savanna-artige Erdbeer-Sahne-Bonbons. Wunderbare Nase! Nase 92, Gaumen 88, Abgang 83. In Summe starke 87. Schöne Abfüllung mit einer etwas anderen Seite von Hampden. Preislich seiner Zeit voraus.

Interesting Marque: HJF is no longer produced and comes along with 826 gr/hl AA Esters, so somewhere between HLCF and <>H. On the nose fruity, banana and passion fruit come to mind. Besides that also baking spice and clotted cream (like you get with scones). The fermented and the gluts are relatively subtle here. Very spicy on the palate, citrus next to it and slightly bitter mocha on the finish. I like it a lot, if only there wasn't the lingering impression that the 53.6% tastes kind of watery. Even if it is brute, braver would have been the 76.6% cask strength.

Amazing flavors of powdered rouge and menthol, heavy vanilla and herbaceous, spice (with pepper, cinnamon… and baking spices). The dried fruits was fresh, uncooked or not even dry completely, with an aroma of olives and tea and unknown spices. woody, very complex. The complexity is the highest of the several, slightly higher than <>H, and is sufficiently open to not be closed at all. But the pleasure is a little bit lower. The smell-taste consistency, in addition to the intense tropical fruit notes, there are deep vanilla with tea and unknown plant/spice notes. The order of tropical fruits'presentation is slightly different from typical Hampden (HV, Continental Age, etc.). Overall, the flavors are complex and very layered, fulfilling my expectations of Hampden.

Nose is delightful with lots of fruits (tropical fruit jam - if such thing exists) nicely balanced against wood and roasted notes. Just the right amount of funk and aging. For me quite up there in terms of Hampdens. Very enjoyable on the nose as well. Again, nicely balanced with lots of fruits (for me more banana than in other Hampden marks) well rounded from the cask and bottles at an approachable ABV without feeling diluted.

Another very good Hampden from Old Brothers. Older than the 2008 HJF, more woody, vegetal and pastry notes are felt in addition to the tropical fruit and solvent notes. This impression is confirmed in the mouth, with more spicy and spicy notes as well. The finish is fresher and minty, slightly salty. An old and elegant rum, which constitutes a very nice reference for Old Brothers and Jamaica.

06.11.2021 Another visit to "Den Danske Rom & Whiskyfestival and once again with special access and many very drunk people both days. Notes. Very good release. Super fruity with a light touch of mint in the profile. The palate is spicy yet well balanced and fruity. The finish is extremely long and kind of fresh.

A very greedy nose with tropical fruits ! Very very good! In the mouth more accessible than I would have thought. A real pastry. A slightly spicy attack that quickly gives way to smooth flavors. 2nd tasting and I like it even more 😍 One of the favorites of the year 2021

Very pleasant to the nose and this side sticky, solvent that resorts so in the mouth ... For me I like less than the 2008 of Esther and co.
