Most tasters land around "very good but not the best Skeldon" — lovely nose, slightly let down by body. Expect roasted oak, coffee and mocha, burnt sugar, dark chocolate and prunes. It genuinely needs a long time open to tame the bitter finish. Several found it a touch thin for 48.4% and wished for more punch, but almost nobody disliked it.

In line with a lot of other older continental Guyanese bottlings this SWR need a tremendous time to breath in order to open up. This will help to reduce the bitterness on the finish and enhance the rum‘s complexity. For me it is on the edge of feeling to thin overall, however still very tasty and complex given enough time. Side-by-side the SBS bottling is clearly ahead of The Nectar. Side-by-side with some 2001 SWRs, the 1997 come out much more elegant and a little more moderated. Wood influence is more accentuated, on the edge of being overwhelming.

Heavy sweetness with dark fruits, wood and spice rise to the nose. Alcohol hardly plays a role here. On the palate also first a great sweetness, some bitterness and lots of fruit (grapes, black currant) reminds me very much of an older Armagnac. I like it well.

Depth of aroma and complexity, liveliness and darkness, this nose is an urgent call to drink this elixir. The palate, too, is beautiful, with dark aromas of burnt sugar, strongly roasted coffee, dark chocolate and prunes. The balance is based on these dark aromas, with a hint of fruitiness and acidity. The finish is long, still dark but balanced. A very fine rum that tells a medieval story. I like it a lot, but I can understand why people prefer a different kind of balance.

Nose is absolutely fantastic ! Mouth is unfortunately a bit too woody but it is still a very good rum. It could have been an amazing one if bottled 4 years ago.

Similar to the Romdeluxe 25yo (49.2%), but slightly less complex. Nevertheless, still a wonderful Skeldon with a great roasted cocoa note.

Thx to Olli for this sample 🤝🏻🥃 It’s a wonderful, full bodied, compley rum! Nose: Dark Chocolate, leather, Caramel, woody, oak, vanilla, varnish, dried fruits! Yummy Palate: Same notes as above. Very elegant, oily, balanced, complex! Awesome! The alcohol is integrated well. Finish: Medium, dry and delicious🤤🤤🤤🥃

"Skeldon" on the label naturally raises expectations. A certain similarity in the DNA may be present, the rum itself is also quite pleasing - sweetness, wood, coffee, spices - but to the complexity of the other Skeldons this bottling is far from reaching. Regardless of the great name, a solid rum remains with high sweetness, but also not free of somewhat harsh notes.

Wood notes as in a very old Armagnac with quite bitter but pleasant notes in the finish. In the mouth, besides maple syrup, the fruitiness of plum and apricot. The bitterness in the finish gives way to the smokiness of the nose after longer breathing. Very good rum that just misses the level of 2001 SWR from SBS.

First of all, many thanks to Rum_Freund who simply tore it open for all of us in the hotel bar at night. But after the Kirsch Cruise you just have to carry on with the good stuff. It's a very tasty thing.

On aeration, the wood is toasted with butterscotch, nuts, biscuits, vanilla, waxy, cherry joins, the molasses is floral. 8,7:On the palate, the attack is tasty with roasted oak and burnt sugar, toffee, coffee, maple, Demerara sugar, spicy, tannins join, fruits like dried apricots, prunes, raisins, cherry, citrus, the molasses is thick, candied with licorice, slightly bitter. 8,8:The finish is round, balanced, long, dry and tannic, with roasted oak notes like cappuccino/mocha, caramel, dark chocolate, burnt sugar, pastry, smoky, spicy, dried fruits and slightly flowery molasses, dark with licorice. Well-balanced, complex and very tasty on the nose, despite being just under 48%: spicy, fruity and woody. A pleasant creamy toffee sweetness with tropical fruits and soft coconut milk comes straight away. Behind this, however, there is also freshness with essential oils. It is pleasantly woody, toasted wood with a fine vanilla note. Also full-bodied on the palate: dark woody-roasted and bitter-salty. Almost a little charred with lots of mocha. A resinous freshness is added with a hint of licorice. Behind this is some sweetness from toffee. The finish remains woody and bitter with plenty of mocha and some dark chocolate. It also has a hint of cut branches. Overall very woody and bitter, but also very intense and beautiful. I like the old Demerara. Especially Skeldon.

Needs a lot of time to breathe. Very tasty but not on the level of other Skeldon. Overall classic Marker. Nice black tea-chocolate association. Burnt and spicy on the finish, much fruitier with water.

Edit: I had the opportunity to get a bottle at a very good price. My impression is quite different from the sample I tasted. I no longer have that impression of musty wood or old in a bad sense. This is a Guyanese as I love them! But I still wonder: with this color, these aromas, isn't there a ladle of molasses in there? Very good but lacks liveliness. Of course, we are on something that smells and tastes old with dark barrel aromas, dried fruits like prunes and figs... A typical profile as Guyana knows how to produce.

Next up is the Guyana tasting, some really crazy stuff here. Again very dark rum, some wood is noticeable, otherwise very roasted, coffee and mocha are present, but also dark chocolate and cocoa.

Sometimes you get a surprise and this one was a surprise because I haven't seen it in Danish stores or online shops. A very nice Skeldon. The nose is heavy with fruit and oak followed by burnt sugar and light tobacco. The nose came as soon as the Cork was popped. The palate is also heavy, complex and yet well balanced. Again lots of fruit and oak. The burnt sugar is also there with som light licorice. There is a nice spicy tinge to it and at the end of the palate the tannins kick in. The finish is long and lightly dry with dried fruit, oak and licorice. Wonderful rum and price to quality is very good.

A very classy Skeldon, which, although only 48% alc, is very intense! A wonderful nose, with a certain elegance. This also continues on the palate! The woodiness becomes borderline towards the end, which ultimately costs it the top rating

A very smooth and pleasant Skeldon bottling. The nose offers typical Guyana aromas, with sweet, caffeinated, spicy, woody, chocolatey, vanilla and slightly smoky notes that blend very well. The same aromas are found on the palate, with the same smoothness, for a rum that is round, unctuous and tasty. The finish is quite long, with the same structure but with a hint of menthol. A very gourmet rum, which could be drunk like milk given its relatively low voltage.

perhaps a little above the 97 Nectar Skeldon (RX 12486), but the 2001s are somewhat more complex and intense. This is probably also due to the relatively low ABV of the Milhade. Nonetheless, I quite like it, it's definitely a drinkable and tasty drink 😋

First Skeldon so far, very pleasant impression. On the nose, exciting notes of vanilla, chocolate and wood, while on the palate other notes like dried fruit, caramel or licorice join in. The finish could be a bit longer for my taste.

A slightly light Skeldon with a lovely nose combining vanilla, oak, caramel, prune and coffee. I would have liked it to be a little more complex in the mouth but all the classic flavours are present.

Maybe the rum could have come out of the barrel a bit earlier, because the mouthfeel is already very soft with a strong oak impact at the same time. However, there are still enough dried fruits and also a pleasantly chocolaty base sweetness, so this Skeldon is not only shaped by the wood. A very fine drop with a noticeably high maturity level, which knows how to impress with elegance and depth.

This Skeldon is also very smooth, less spicy, but more woody, dark chocolate and nuts (coconut). Smooth on the palate with vanilla, chocolate and toffee, though the finish is strongly bitter and dry.

Clearly better in direct comparison to "The Nectar." More typical Skeldon caramel and cappuccino notes, insanely inviting nose. Taste-wise star anise meets cappuccino, plus burnt leather and singed herbs, as well as plenty of tannins and slightly burnt caramel.

Very dark, bitter chocolate. Quite woody, but not overpowering so not too astringent. After airing for quite some time (thanks for the tip @Dom M) a tiny bit of sweetness comes through. Perhaps a bit thin, but well balanced with a little afterburn. Thanks @Chris for the sample. All gone now 🥲

Despite its "only" 48.4%, it needs some time in the glass to unfold its aromas. Performs slightly worse in direct comparison with its (little) brother RX13842. Still a great rum. Nice espresso note in the finish.

On the nose: Good, balanced mixture of typical Guyana rum. Vanilla, dark chocolate, coffee and that burnt sugar. You have to let this rum to sit in the glass for a while in order to flavours to open up and the intensity to mellow down. Taste:Vanilla, coffee and that roastness and burnt sugar are there. Woodyness is there. Body feels a little bit medium to thin and kind would have wanted the abv to be little higher. Good balance nevertheless. Finish: Dark chocolate, woodyness, dried fruits and mild dry bitterness. Enjoyed the finish, good palate. Its a good sipping rum and I liked it. I would have liked little more body and abv for my liking so therefore it really doesnt stand out in Guyanese rum category. So, worth of checking out, but doesnt blow you away

Complex nose: dark chocolate, caramel, salt, hazelnut, plum, blackberry, very pleasant. Palate: again dark chocolate with some salt and caramel, the dark fruits from the nose are no longer there, maybe some plum, but black tea, hazelnut and salt in the finish. Alcohol well integrated, nice rum especially on the nose but the salty black tea in the finish is not quite my thing.

The burnt sugar is also there with some light licorice. The finish is long and slightly dry with dried fruits and wood. ABV could be higher, but taste is very fine.

You have to give it time to open up and offer its flair of aromas from Uitvlugt. Very pleasant woody notes for a 24-year-old. Perfect cask strength at 48.4%. Quite remarkable!

An interesting Guyanese rum, but not quite my type this time. The nose is smooth, with notes of caramel, cocoa, and a hint of orange. On the palate, it is woody and well-rounded, with a touch of sweetness.

Another nice but not commanding old diamond. Slightly nicer than the Nobilis but still a little underwhelming to me at the price. Nose is mostly brown sugar and leather. Palate is brown sugar, leather, and bitter herbs. Overall quite nice but a little too barrel dominated for me.
