Here's the surprise: several tasters say this column-still St. Lucia doesn't taste like St. Lucia at all — more than one calls it a dead ringer for Foursquare or Venezuela. Expect dried fruit, caramel, dark chocolate and a light medicinal edge, with the 60% ABV folded in so well one member's wife didn't notice it. Rounded, a touch sweet, and a bit less wild than the distillery's pot-still bottlings.

Unusually sweet and easy-drinking St Lucia! Could pass blind as a Venezuela single cask.. Nice notes of caramel, dark chocolate, herbs and hay, fruit bread and dried fruit and in the finish a bit of cappuccino, black pepper and coconut! I like it a lot and it's easy to drink but overall reminds me more of Foursquare or Venezuela than St Lucia... Could absolutely pass blind as Foursquare or Venezuela. Still very tasty!

The aroma doesn't really suit me for Saint Lucia. I smell dried fruit, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, and cinnamon. Just a slight hint of medicine. The body is nothing special. In the finish, a light combination of medicine, fruit, vanilla, cocoa, and caramel. I have higher expectations from St. Lucia.

Second tasting: overall impression much weaker today (-5) Nose: Wow! Super complex! A mixture of Agricole and Guyana, great! Mouth: sweet and spicy and also super complex, I like it very much! Finish: continues with an emphasis on dark chocolate It's hard for me to capture everything this rum has to offer, but it's one of the best I've tasted so far. There is still enough in my sample for a second tasting 😁

Rum Friendly Club Advent Calendar, day 5. A pastry nose with vanilla, overripe pear and other yellow fruits, alcohol and cedar wood well present. The entry on the palate is alcoholic but also aromatic with the same notes as on the nose. The alcohol is a bit too marked for the fruit expression but it gives a very nice liveliness to this rum. The finish is a bit short but expresses a certain sweetness with a slight acidity that gives balance at the end.

St. Lucia almost always delivers. Here too. But in a very unusual way. The rum is very sweet. Caramel, wood, chocolate, peach and black tea. The alcohol is well integrated, a bit sharp at the back.

This is a pretty good rum considering the price tag at release. Fruity and nice caramel on the profile well balanced with the roasted and wood notes. Oily on the palate and draws really nice curtains. In the empty glass i can pick up some chocolate and light coffee.

Very atypical St. Lucia rum. Reminiscent of a blend of Venezuela, Foursquare and St. Lucia rum - and a little T.D.L mint. Has real power with an eternal finish.

The nose is strongly reminiscent of a FS. Alcohol fairly well integrated, but overall rather flat and unspectacular despite the relatively high ABV. Short finish. After several tastings, I still think that the profile is more in the direction of Barbados (Foursquare) than St. Lucia. All in all, a very accessible rum.

A beautiful bottling from Santa Lucia. But from memory, not the typical Chairman's profile I'm used to. I also had a little bit of Foursquare in my nose. All in all, I think this rum is very successful. In my opinion, the alcohol is well integrated and makes it a little quaffable. Thanks SaibotZtar for sharing.

had I not just had the outstanding 2005/15 years Chairman's Master Selection (The Nectar 15th Anniv.) in the glass, the Plantation would probably have gotten a few points more. It's rounder, not as extreme. On the nose, raisins and also cognac notes from barrel aging. On the palate, caramel and chocolate. The 60% ABV of the Plantation strangely seems much more watery compared to the 64% of the Chairman's Nectar. I would not necessarily have expected that clearly 🤔.

Does not correspond at all to the usual profile of Saint Lucia but rather a slightly herbal Foursquare version. Probably because it is not a pot still distillation.

On Saint Lucia, the whole profile is somewhat sweet. You can smell it quite a lot already in the nose, but it's much more pronounced on the palate. Notes of baked goods, dried fruit, and caramel, but also wood and bourbon. Pleasant drinking!

Quite tasty and easy on palate despite the abv. I enjoy the chocolate notes, on the nose dried red fruit and grapes also detectable, potentially coming from the cognac finish. Not overly complex though, but still enjoyable. Good alcohol integration.

Surprisingly sweet and not really too close to the usual St. Lucia profile. Not a bad drop, given the sweetness even very pleasing and quaffable, but for me a touch too sweet despite the round profile.

Before my feedback on the 1st Plantation Rhum Addicts festival madness, I come back for a moment on 2 rums tasted just before departure to get into the theme. And here is my feeling of this double bottling selected for the 15th anniversary of Nectar at: 🥇Saint Lucia 2007 - 60.2% 🥈Long Pond 1998 - 49.4% Molasses rum from Saint Lucia Distillers aged 10 years in Saint Lucia before returning to France for 3 years in Ferrand Cognac casks and a 1-year finish in 1840 Original Formula casks. It was bottled BDF at 60.2% Nose super complex on dried fruits and caramel, great! Palate soft and spicy. Rather complex with a vanilla thread, I like it a lot! Finish on dark chocolate and wood And the good news is I still have a bottle waiting to be opened in the cellar...

My best Chairman's so far. Very balanced between medicine, cognac barrel and maturity aromas like prune. Alcohol incredibly well integrated. Even my wife doesn't notice the 60%. Wonderful intensity and length.I should get a few bottles....

13/12/2024: Road Rummers Plantation tasting. Usually I'm not the biggest fan of anything from Plantation/Planteray for different reasons, but this was probably the best one from the line-up. Mild, round and approachable. Not bad but a bit to sweet for my liking.

Battle Plantation Single Cask 2021 Saint Lucia 2010 LMDW Conquête 53.2% VS Saint Lucia 2007 The Nectar 60.2%: The 2007 is a column still while the 2010 is a pot still. One week fermentation for both, 156 g/HL AA esters for the first, 160 for the second, 545 g/HL AA volatile compounds for the first, 771 for the second. Hard to separate them as they are so similar on nose and palate. Same markers, and the column still holds its own against the pot still. On the contrary, the extra 7 degrees make the 2007 a bit deeper. I wouldn't pick a winner but if I had to make someone unfamiliar with Saint Lucia taste one, I'd choose the 2010, a bit more accessible, while for someone already initiated, it would be the 2007. Close match, but two very good juices in any case.

S8 T3 Road Rummers Plantation tasting Nose is a bit closed, but a great mouth profile. Lot's of spice. Medium finish. Empty glas is alot of cough syrup. If the nose was stronger I would buy me a bottle, but it lacks some complexity for a higher score.

Interesting that a column St. Lucia can attain such profile. If the profile is lighter on toasted notes, less hevy on wood and spices, fruits, discreet sourness, and sweet burnt sugar and molasse help with a fainting finish. Well done even though not my favourite from St. Lucia. Yet worth the try and content with my purchase.
