100% Port Mourant DNA. Dark, thick espresso, the wood present despite long aging, but not dominant. Tolerates a minimum of 30, better 60 minutes in the glass, the nose develops enormously - very nice, never overwhelming cask strength. Bonus: Bottle and massive wooden box - a dream.

12.06.2020 Relaxing over a nice lunch with friends and family and a few rums. Notes Very dark in colour (almlst black). Nose Elegant, wood, roasted, light smoke, fruit, raisin, light caramel. Palate Oily, balanced, complex, dried fruit, caramel, light grape, light coffee. Finish Long, complex, wood, roasted, dried fruit, light caramel, coffee, faint chocolate. Extra note Needs to rest for a very long time to open up properly.

I wanted something special for my 600th tasting. Et voilà: a 41-year-old PM from 1974! I am greeted by a deep, dark, molasses-like aroma on the nose. Definitely Guyana. After standing for a while, I sip the glass in awe - oh yes, an absolutely worthy aged rum. Wood, leather, spice, molasses, hardly any fruit, barely noticeable alcohol, but still enough power. So blindly I would have guessed a really old KFM (are there any before 1991?). I hope my naivety is forgivable. But when do you ever have a 74 PM in your glass?

Uiuiui, der ist ja auch richtig lecker. Vielen Dank an DomM fürs Teilen.

Little look into some 74 PMs: Moon Import / Kingsbury / Skene Whisky. On the nose: Moon comes with a profile I would immediately associate with PM. Anise, wet would and plum. Very nice and rich. Kingsbury shows more sweetness with almonds and a buttery sensation to it. Also very nice. A bit more lively - despite the significantly longer aging. Skene delivers the heaviest Profil. Leather, black tea and herbs. Yet still some sweetness and dried figs. Most demanding of the three but also highest intensity. On the palate: Moon is very nice with rich notes of coffee and dried plums delivered with some sweetness. Kingsbury shows some sweetness again and rich dark notes with lots of wood and leather without being bitter at any point. Skene is more balanced than the Kingsbury. A bit more sweetness and dried fruits alongside the strong wood influence. All in all I go with Moon = Skene > Kingsbury for today.

Very tasty, pleasant combination of fruit, leather and wood. But could have had more steam.
