Most tasters land firmly in the "really good demerara" camp, with a few noting it can't quite touch the legendary 1994 REVs. Expect dark, chewy stuff: prunes, raisins, burnt sugar and wet charred wood, with black tea and licorice underneath. Several found the alcohol not fully tucked in, and a handful picked up a soapy note. Dried-fruit sweetness keeps it from going bitter.

One of my best Guyana rums to date, a character recognizable from miles away. The color first... Ah, it's very dark, very thick, what you'd expect from a Versailles. The nose opens with wet wood and burnt sugar. It deepens with dried fruits, particularly prunes and raisins, and fruit compote. It has a rounded, sweet, and burnt profile. On the first palate, the dried fruits dominate, then the wood and caramel return. On the second palate, the candied fruit compote is confirmed, again these dried fruits supported by overcooked caramel and burnt wet wood. The integration of the alcohol is very well executed. The finish is long and woody, but without bitterness, all smoothness. For me, it's almost flawless. Other than asking for even more nuance in the aromas, I don't know what to criticize. I don't have any other REVs to compare it to, but I would put it above El Dorado's Versailles Rare collection, it has the same aromas but is better executed and for less money.

9:On the nose, this is really a complex rum with different fruity and woody notes as dried fruits with prunes, raisins, charred wood, spicy with leather, caramel, burnt sugar, brown sugar, roasted nuts and clove.The molasses is vegetal, dark with black tea and licorice. On aeration, walnut is very strong, with a coffee note, we find toasted coconut for a second, as there are dried dates, some salty and creamy notes from sherry seasoning, the molasses even darker with soy sauce, vegetal notes like hay, chesnuts and chili, there might be some citrus. Balanced and round. 9:On the palate, the attack is fruity and spicy with dried fruits like prunes, dates, raisins, apricots, perhaps plums and pears, orange peel and red fruits, pleasantly syrupy, with pepper and clove.The wood is charred, creamy with leather, roasted nuts, burnt sugar, crème brûlée, as the molasses is dark, thick with black tea, licorice.After well rested, the fruits become candied, the molasses minty, herbal...Delicious. 8,9:The finish is long, woody and fruity, dry&spicy, tannic, earthy, with some palate notes lingering on, some new ones like sour cherry, grapes, eucalyptus and soap.

Es ist beeindruckend, welche Aromenpracht man aus 15 Jahren Reifung so in die Flasche bekommt. Eine sehr intensive, fruchtige Nase zeigt viele rote Früchte, Dörrobst, Karamell und Schokolade an. Viel Würze, Kräuter und Fassnoten kommen hinzu. Ein ähnliches Erlebnis dann am Gaumen: Viele fruchtige Töne, wundervolle Gewürze und durch die genial eingebundenen 56,4 Prozent mit einem warmen Unterton. Dann Kräuter, Gewürznelke und Leder. Sehr komplex und harmonisch. Im ebenso vielschichtigen und langen Abgang kommen zu allem noch Eukalyptus, Tannine und Kaffee dazu. Ein absolut erstklassiger Guyana Diamond ! Echt lecker !

Update: I like increasingly worse. In the mouth quite one-dimensional and thin. -2Original:Rusty along with the SBS 2006, the first RA 2004 and the second RA 1994 - the latter dances a bit out of line. If the 2006 is a REV, then so are the 2004 MDXC. There are differences, but are as great between the 2004 bottlings as compared to the 2006.This bottling is the most drinkable of the four, the powerful that also so characterized the first RA 1994 takes a back seat even further here, the prune playing full out. The nose is softer and more restrained than the 2004s. In the mouth, a sweetness is present that neither the 2004s nor the 1994s bring. Despite the darker color, the sweetness is more reminiscent of molasses and candied fruit than burnt caramel.

A deep nose of caramel and molasses, leather, banana and prunes, with a pronounced bitterness, like an espresso. The palate is slightly marked by alcohol, but at the same time acqueous. The bitter caramel, slight acidity and wood slightly mask the other aromas. What a shame! The finish is long, with caramel, banana, prune and coffee. The empty glass, strangely enough, reveals quite a lot of tropical fruit and a hint of smokiness. A rum that I found a little disappointing, especially because of its mouthfeel. Exciting extension of the REV saga - the corresponding DNA is recognizable, but it is quite clearly not up to the 94 vintage for me. The nose still convinces me a good deal more than the taste experience in the mouth, where unfortunately the alcohol remains a bit too present. Compared to other 2006 REVs on the milder side, more balanced, perhaps also thanks to the somewhat shorter storage time - other releases already show significantly more bitterness (Nobilis) or smoke (Romdeluxe). Slight deductions for the in my opinion somewhat too clear alcohol sharpness.

If old SV are already good, REV are even more beautiful. Nose: intense, concentrated and balanced delicious. Overall toasty-woody and malty-dark. Lots of spicy aromas but also quite fruity and sweet. Sour cherry, dried currant, old orange, dried apricot and right next to it strong maple syrup, spicy honey, burnt sugar and creme brules. Sandalwood and oak round out. Palate: wow, intense and concentrated, toasty-woody-spicy, but also fruity and fresh. Currant and sour cherry alongside bitter orange and some prune. Pleasant sandalwood and strong maple syrup with treacle. Some pepper with nutmeg, ginger and vanilla. Out the back some salty, licorice, mint and black tea. Delicious I really like this one. Very balanced

Rev profile present, but the alcohol is not really well integrated and there is a distinct lack of fruitiness and complexity. Lots of molasses and licorice. Not my cup of tea.

Just a great rum! If you then add the price-performance ratio, just fantastic, much qualitatively 1A rum at a good price.The close relative of Nobilis (RX12424) is hardly what inferior to the SBS, only on the palate it seems a little less complex.Long live the REVs of the year 2006!!! 🤗Update 13.08.2022:Simply delightful! A worthy little brother to the 1994 REVs.I really like this slightly mineral note, for which the malty tone of most 94s readily takes a back seat. Tasted blind, I would have thought it a light 94. All REV-Beginnern this rum is warmly recommended.

Wow. I would not have expected such a beast. Really horny number! At the beginning on the nose briefly overripe banana peel and caramel, but is then directly overrun by prune, leather and wood, as well as clove and allspice. Extremely intense and complex. Flavor then a blast of dried medjoul dates, allspice, dark chocolate with sea salt, strong mocha and a few herbal and black tea notes and tannins, as well as bitterness from the wood. On the finish, the light date sweetness then intensifies again along with the salt dark chocolate, some cassis and the old banana peel gets its comeback again with some mint. Absolute board. Would not have expected. Chapeau SBS!👌

Preliminary assessment, I have to approach again. First impression is very interesting, but today it is too woody for me and I perceive a soapy note in the finish. Second try: nose still great, taste I find today not too woody, but the soapy note is still there, for me very disturbing. I had so far only two other rums I then did not get down, Mombacho 19 from Nicaragua and Los Valientes 20.

Nose of caramel and molasses, leather and plums, a pronounced bitterness, like a slight sweet side. On the palate, it is slightly alcoholic and watery at the same time. Caramel, a slight acidity and wood mask the other flavors a little. The finish is long, with caramel, banana, plum and coffee. A very short finish for me. But the aroma coming out of the glass is just great. Thanks Gunnar for the sample.

Second tasting: a very good rum, rating relativized (-2)Nose: very inviting and heavy with lots of spiciness and... black tea!Mouth: here the spiciness immediately takes over accompanied by a nice sweetness of caramelized brown sugar and a medicinal bitterness.Finish: fades faster than expected but long and intense with barrel, sweetness and bitter notes.What a great rum!

Holy Moly wat n Brett! A really complex, broadly shouldered rum. Already in the nose heavy dark notes of wood, spices and dark fruits. The taste is then really thick and full-bodied: Wood, prunes and a subtle sweetness and then a bitter note, which I find interesting and in no way devalues the rum. The long finish is mixed with the sadness that it was only a sample!

On their first encounter, SBS and Nobilis are very much toe to toe. Nose goes to Nobilis for a little more openness and complexity. SBS takes the palate with (comparably) less wood/bitterness which leaves more room for some dried red fruits, which I don’t really find in the Nobilis very much - on my first try at least 🤔 Both very nice REVs, if you do enjoy this kind of dark and bitter profile.

I find the nose quite restrained. Caramel, malt, plum can be detected. Some licorice, but less charred aromas and less intense than the SoR 2006 REV. Much more intense on the palate with subtle pencil shavings, malt, caramel, roasted aromas, wood, plum. All in all, I like it very much. A direct comparison with the SoR must be made again.

On the nose spices, towards Maggi, caramel, sandalwood , the prune rather in the background. The spicy profile continues on the palate: clove, wood, slightly peppery. Certainly not a bad REV and as such also quite wahrenhmbar, but between the S.B.S and the previously tasted Rumclub 94 REV are worlds apart.

Nose: very engaging and heavy Palate: the spiciness takes over immediately, accompanied by a lovely sweetness of caramelized brown sugar and medicinal bitterness. Finish: long and intense, with sweet, muscovado notes and a bit too much bitterness.

Not necessarily my favorite profile (in general, these tea notes often found in Saint Lucia bother me), but I must admit that this is a very well-made Guyana, with a beautiful color, a pleasant texture and a long finish. There are some fairly typical markers.
