Destileria Carupano Reserva 6 Especial
Butterscotch and caramel candy lead here — several tasters land on Werther's Original as the reference point, with light wood, vanilla and a touch of pineapple behind it. This 6-year Venezuelan column-still is simple and pleasant, but the alcohol stays forward for 40% and the finish drops off fast. One member found it "surprisingly good clean" and wanted to try it in a cocktail.

How does Destileria Carupano Reserva 6 Especial taste?
Aggregated from 45 community reviews.
Toffee-heavy, simple, short-finishing Venezuelan Most find it a pleasant, caramel-forward Venezuelan that tastes young for its age. The catches: a short, quick-fading finish and alcohol that pushes through despite the modest strength.

02-09.04.2022 This was crazy week, where some friends and I rented a nice summerhouse on Rømø. The plan was to go nuts for a whole week with different rums without going overboard. The final agreement came to 6 rums a day and then enjoy nice walks or ferry rides during the day. Day 2 Notes Medium dark in colour. Nose Light, sweet, light roasted wood, light candy, caramel, light anise, faint chocolate. Palate Sweet, light oily, light wood, light chocolate, faint caramel, light fruits, pineapple. Finish Short to medium, sweet, light wood, caramel, light chocolate, light pineapple. Extra note. Best enjoyed handwarm and I found it to be a really good dessert rum that can also be poured over icecream.

Lightly spiced rum. Has an incredibly sweet aroma but then leaves a short alcoholic taste in your mouth. The main issue lies with the taste (unless you prefer a bit of blandness in your rum). Overall it is an ok one but not something I would consider drinking it straight. Might fit very well with some mixers.

Overall: Better than expected but nowhere near great. Nose: Very strong toffee (think Werther’s Original) Palate: Delivers on the toffee on both the attack and the palate. Finish: Like most Venezuelan’s I’ve tried it dissipates so fast you barely remember it was ever there. I am generally not a fan of Venezuelan rums. I find they dissipate too quickly and when you are lucky enough to find an undosed one they are often rather generic and uninteresting. However, I must admit this one was better than I expected and I’ve had far worse light bodied rums than this. I also appreciate that this thing is probably not dosed up and sugared like many other Venezuelans, for sure at least not as much as Diplomatico.

Much forward alcoholic smell. Can tell instantly column before even looking up. Amount of spices surprised me, was not expecting it. Really tastes young compared to other rums of same age. Seems like needs more age. Got a feeling the bottle won't empty as quickly as other bottles. Interesting overall.

As is often the case with Ron's, this one has a very powerful caramel nose, which even takes over a little from all the other scents. On the palate, it's flat. There's hardly anything that stands out. There's a very slight buttery, aniseed taste.

Alcoholic, smells fresh with vanilla and alcohol underlined by roasted smell and spiciness. On the 👅 there is sweetness with vanilla primarily and spicy taste but all that is killed by alcohol and weird bitterness. For me a very unimpressive rum. I don't need to try again.

This is not recommended! The nose is fruity, bitter and sweet with an aroma of vanilla. At the palate and during the rather short finish it’s bitter, sweet, fruity and a little roasted with flavors of vanilla.

Review by Rumpalumpa
Erinnert mich eindeutig an Sahne-Karamellbonbons. Werthers zB.
