Alcoholes Del Istmo Plantation Single Cask 1992
Caramel, vanilla and old oak run through this 27-year Panama pot-still, finished in a Teeling whisky cask that leaves a clear whiskey edge some tasters actually enjoy. Several found it complex and well balanced, with dried apricot, raisin and a touch of citrus. The recurring gripe: at 51%, the alcohol isn't fully tucked in, leaving a little heat and astringency.
- Complex and balanced
- Caramel and oak
- Whisky-cask character

How does Alcoholes Del Istmo Plantation Single Cask 1992 taste?
Aggregated from 43 community reviews.
Oaky, caramel Panama with a whisky edge Most call it complex and balanced with caramel, oak and a whisky-cask twist, but the common catch is heat — several feel the ABV isn't well integrated and slightly buries the flavor.

Pretty OK rum especially considering the price tag.

Of the three Panama rums tasted today, this is the best. Still sweet (just Panama...), but still within a pleasant range.

Reminds me blind of the Panama 1997 from Bellamy's Reserve. Bourbon whisky, vanilla, lots of caramel and dried fruit such as apricot and raisin, some cocoa and coconut... However, the alcohol is not ideally integrated both on the nose and in the taste, hence slight deductions. A slight sharpness and astringency lingers on the finish. This is the year I was born, so I had to try it!

Relatively restrained on the nose, light notes of caramel, old cask/oak. On the palate, the rum is oily and mild with aromas of cask, caramel and allspice, the same in the finish! Overall an easily accessible rum without any highlights

Wooden, caramel, whiskey. From the nose to the taste and the finish. Complex, rich and and a great balanced flavour. Overall one of the best rums in my portfolio.
Review by Steffmaus🇩🇰
Tasted at my favorite bar in Copenhagen. The nose is rather fruity with some depth of orange and wood, though not as much as one would expect with this age. In the notes I found lemony fruits, cinnamon and vanilla
Review by Johannes
Typical Panama, rather on the sweet side, but nice chocolate, coconut and cookie dough. Alcohol not perfectly integrated.

Super smooth and kind rum. In spite of above 50% alcohol. This is a shortcoming at the same time. To me it needs some more character to take it higher. Vanilla, func, …., just something.
