PX finish and 2000 WIRD does work well overall. However I do prefer the plain, unaltered versions of this rum.

Typical WIRD profile with tea, honey, and smoky notes. The finish adds a somewhat heavy sweetness but also accentuates the smokiness a bit. Quite interesting, but for me not necessarily proof that WIRD with sweet wine becomes the perfect match.

The RA 2000 Rockley (2024) compared with the RA Rockley 2000 from 2021 and the SBS 2000 PX cask finish. The new Rockley is somehow a disappointment on the nose, reminds me more of the RA SFGB with the Swiss pine and kumquat. But it has little in common with the typical, so appreciated Rockley notes (smoke/honey). Unfortunately, the SBS doesn't convince me either, the PX finish overwhelms everything here (as so often). Also, it has an unpleasant, musty note at the beginning (which luckily disappears after longer standing time).

I think that the flaw in this rum is the ABV if it would have been higher I'm pretty sure this would be a great rum. The Baja profile is there and so is the PX cask finish. I do like the smoky wood on the profile and the rubber note is kind of nice too.

It's Advent, there's charcoal on the grill, I'm sitting in a pine forest, I'm holding marshmallows over the grill. This scenery describes the smell very well. There's plenty of dried fruit to go along with it. On the finish I have something smoky and cigar. The sherry finish is present, but does not dominate in my opinion.

The nose is very atypical of our landmarks of Barbados and its greediness! Here it is Dried fruits/Toasted/Marshmallow The mouth is creamy and pulls on the woody, smoky and like a touch of olive. The finish is on peppery chocolate/cigar. The Sherry finish is only slightly present. Blind, impossible to think of La Barbades. Very specific tasting rum and less rum of greed.

Maybe the sample wasn't the right one because I'm not getting much px here. It is very enjoyable though (my surroundings help much). Overal it's a subtly and lightly flavoured yet greatly balanced. Some cigar/cognac-esque flavours. Coffee/mocha. Bay leaf. Very good. Love it.

First Rockley for me. I like the profile but it does not quite excite me. It feels a bit too one- dimensional to me. It should deliver on more layers to score better. I like that it packs flavour despite the lower ABV.
