Several tasters call it almost elegant and less brutal than other 2009s, with overripe mango, lemon and a marzipan sweetness rounding the acid. ... Hampden, the legendary Jamaican distillery that besides rum also produces alcohol for perfumes. In all rums from this distillery, you can smell wild esters, after which your whole body soaks up the scent of yellow tropical fruits - mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. One of the rums you "must try before you die".

Rum X Advent 9.12.22High Ester Hampden, no question. The 07 could absolutely be (Flensburg bspw). Why not a DOK as well?I have an insane amount of varnish and perfume thunder coming through. A RumClub or a TRC DOK I could also imagine well.with water it becomes rounder.

in the other glass, the DOK 2009 reference, the TRC 64.5%, from the rest of the LoM cask. The Tasttoe is absolutely on par with the TRC on the nose. On the palate, the TRC scores a bit higher with its very well integrated, slightly higher ABV that also brings a bit more intensity. The Tasttoe plays but in any case sovereign in the Champions League!

12 years - even if continental - is quite decent for a DOK. Nose: intense esters, yellow lemon upfront, behind ripe, slightly fermented pineapple. A good splash of fruit vinegar comes through. Honey-marzipan sweetness softens a bit. I miss the fine glue, instead I have more solvent and nail polish. But as expected a wonderful aroma bomb. 8.5 Palate: intense and really tasty. Total esters. Most intense sour-sweet pineapple with lemon. Feels very meaty. Sweetness of pineapple-marzipan. Slightly astringent. You can hardly say more. DOK indeed. Really like it. 8.7

Of course, you get a high-ester Hampden here. Glue, mango, pineapple, banana... Still, the rum feels very one-dimensional and astringent, but not intense in aroma on the palate. The finish is short with a sour glue note.

A well-concentrated Hampden DOK with phenolic notes and ripe tropical fruit that has a touch of floral freshness, tartness and fermented notes that round out the nose. The aromatic power returns on the palate, with citrus, tannins, acid, spice and woody touch that complement and tame the DOK's strong character. The finish, although we perceive the typical aromas already described, is relatively short and loses intensity compared to the rest. A clear rum, which can show the muscles in high ester mode but which is relatively balanced and accessible. It is however slightly effete compared to other Jamaican rums and it lacks a little something to have a great aromatic bouquet.

You can't really go far wrong with a 2009 DOK, in my opinion. In conclusion, for me a very good bottling with the Funky Hampden DOK markers. But unfortunately, it somehow lacks the final kick to be included in the top group, it seems a little too well-behaved for that.

A rum that convinces with a completely harmonious mouthfeel, surprisingly fresh for a DOK of this age. On the palate it impresses with intense freshness and balanced harmony for a real taste experience. The lady says: On the wish list!

RumX Advent Calendar 2022: Quite a pleasant Hampden that brings all the typical DOK markers. Besides esters, tropical fruits, and nail polish as well as some fermented notes, I also taste a slight smoky note on the palate, which turns into wood in the finish. Alcohol well integrated.

Wow, a really great DOK. Very intense, but not as brutal as other DOK representatives. Really fun, the slight acidity fits perfectly here. All typical aromas are present, very nicely balanced. I really like it.

The typical DOK profile is there but both on nose and palate far from as complex as other representatives of this vintage. Generally, this DOK is rather on the sour side compared to the other 2009s. I miss the complementary aromas of lime, butter brioche and fully ripe pineapple instead of sour unripe pineapple like here. My expectations were clearly higher here. The CDI 2009s are much more exciting in direct comparison in my opinion and still benchmark! However, I like it much better in direct comparison to the Spirit of Rum DOK which has similar specs, as it is fruitier and less roasty and woody!😄

In comparison with RX11273: from the start it’s more round, elegant and/or refined. Alcohol is integrated very well. A bit of dryness from the wood. After a while they come towards the same level and it becomes very hard to pick a favorite…

Quite an extreme concentration but despite everything a great elegance. Alcohol well integrated, endless length. Acidic, bitter, vegetal and fruity, acetic, fermentary, indulgent, a slight woody mustiness, spices (green curry)... very complete and really successful overall.

#5506 25.07.2025 Enjoying a few samples after coming back from the local Food Festival. Nose Intense, fruity, light wood, overripe, ester, light rubber, pineapple, light berries. Palate Intense, warm, medium spicy, light wood, ester, fruity, overripe, light rubber, light berries, citrus, light olive. Finish Long and warm, medium spicy, fruity, light oily, light pear, berries, faint leather. Empty glass Fruits, light olive, strawberry, faint chocolate, faint herbal. Needs to rest for a long time to really open up and settle properly.

Jamaican nose, probably Hampden Dok. Funky, glue and ester all you expect with ripe fruits and cherry. On the palate it's an explosion of fruits, cherry, banana, strawberry, pineapple, a real candy very well integrated. In the finish we have a nice cherry that stays well in the mouth.
