Sip this one neat and give it time in the glass — it opens slowly. A dark, woody Port Mourant profile: anise and licorice up front, dried apricot, raisin and citrus underneath, with pencil-shavings oak and a mineral, earthy edge. Rest it and you get chocolate and licorice in the empty glass. One taster called the finish a touch short compared to the nose.

Considering the price tag this one fully live up to the hype. It is however still a pretty good Uitvlugt with its dark and woody profile with a bit of fruit and nice spices. You need to rest it for a while in order to get the full flavour profile and in the empty glass you get nice chocolate and licorice after a while.

8,8:On the nose, the first impression we get is a floral, herbaceous molasses, with pencil shavings, citrus and dried fruits, anise and nutty wood. On aeration, the wood becomes a tad roasted with caramel, spicy with vanilla, the molasses grassy and earthy with a tobacco, slightly dark with licorice...Banana and green fruits nicely balance the notes. 8.8:On the palate, the attack is fruity with dried fruits like apricots, raisins and citrus, some litchi, sweet with Demerara sugar.The wood is nutty, spicy with pepper, anise and vanilla, again some pencil shavings appear...When the rum is oxidized, the molasses is herbaceous, flowery and earthy with a tobacco, mineral, sweet with honey, the wood is slightly dark with cocoa, a bit resinous...Delicious and round. 8,7:The finish is long, dry and a bit tannic, some smokiness crawls in, confectionery with crunchy bread, delicious and sweet honey is still with us, as a sticking point, some roasted wood notes, spicy, pair dried apricots and raspberry and mineral molasses with licorice..

A Uitvlugt with a dark profile due to the Port Mourant still. The nose is quite diverse, with notes of fruit, citrus and tropical fruit, solvent and floral notes, but is mostly driven by spices, licorice and anise. There is a similar framework on the palate, with toasty and earthy notes, tobacco, chili pepper and a mineral edge. The finish continues in the same vein, but lacks length and impact compared to the nose and mouth. A pleasant and subtle rum, which could gain in intensity with a higher alcohol level.

Beautiful aroma typical for the 1990 vintage Guyana: anise and plums + dried fruit. In taste plums and gentle tea and anise. In the finish beautiful vanilla, cask and tea. Edit: 30.8.2026 tasted again and had to raise the rating.
