"Quite promising on the nose," as one taster put it — red fruits, vanilla and caramel over a light herbal, vegetal edge that's typical Barbancourt. This 17-year Haitian cane-juice rum runs dry and spicy on the palate, with licorice and oak. The 60% is beautifully hidden; most say you'd never guess cask strength. A few find the finish a touch short and the mouth more bitter than the nose promises.

02.11.2024 retasting at an Romdeluxe tasting event. --------------- A nice rum with a long lightly dry finish. Lightly fruity with spices and lovely oak, caramel and chocolate. Very light vegetal and licorice notes in there as well. Price to quality is very good in my mind.

A 17-year-old Barbancourt sounds very exciting. After 17 years of barrel maturation, the distillate is more simple than complex. Sweet throughout with baking spices, vanilla and cookie dough. Bright fruits, somewhat damp and woody. Burnt sugar in the short finish. The alcohol is well integrated. A good rum.

Super relaxed to drink barbancourt. Very balanced and delicious. Definitely one of the best representatives of the 2004 vintage in my opinion. Just doesn't quite come close to the best Rum Artesanal for me so far.

I quite like Barbancourt and the Romdeluxe bottling can't quite compete with my benchmark from RA, but it's still quite pleasant. Light honey sweetness, a bit fruity (pear), slightly vegetal. Alcohol is well integrated.

A beautiful, old Barbancourt with 60%. Let's see. Nose: fine aromas, not pungent. Sweetish-spicy and slightly floral. Sugar syrup and caramel give a pleasant sweetness, raisin and bergamot with some lime and gooseberry the fruitiness. I also find vanilla and something that reminds me of candle wax. Quite pleasing. 8,0 Palate: here rather strong and spicy-woody with less fruit. Initially bitter and salty with nutmeg and caraway, then metallic with lemon zest and a hint of gooseberry. Very dry overall. Herbs and gooseberry or something similar on the finish. 7,8 Interesting overall, but not round and too bitter on the palate.

Quite interesting, especially in the nose beautiful fruit aromas with light herbs. Reminiscent of herbal sweets from the Christmas market. More spice and herbs on the palate. Accompanied by a sugary spiciness the whole time. Beautifully balanced.

I don't find the alcohol well integrated, somewhat pungent. Long finish, which is also very alcoholic. The middle section is good, but seems very young, could do with longer storage.

Color golden yellow, drops slowly running down the wall, aroma almonds dried fruit mango, pineapple, taste dominated by tropical fruit mango, pineapple sweetness, slight bitterness, almonds woodiness, initially a hint of grassiness, medium-long fruity finish. I would never have said it has 60%, well integrated alcohol.

Quite a few barrels were destroyed by the 2010 earthquake but not this one. 228 bottles. On the nose, you find the vanilla often present in Barbancourt, but with a mix of caramel and spices. On the palate, it's very floral even vegetal, always with that touch of caramel. A bit of licorice too. The 60° is very well integrated, you don't feel it. The finish is nice, quite soft, but could be longer. There is a woody touch that comes at the end. The result is very indulgent, you'd give it 10 or 15° less.

Quite promising on the nose, loads of red fruits, grenadine syrup, some buttery notes, tropical fruits and a fainting earthy note. Slightly deceived by the mouth and finish, more driven by menthol, vanilla and wood than the nose. Eventually though, round and rich, but not long enough.
