Old Brothers Savanna 55.6 - Le 1802 Monte Cristo 2006

8.3/10
Rated by Martin Švojgr, John Coffey & 46 more

Don't expect finesse here — this is overripe pineapple, olives, brine and nail-polish solvent dialed way up. Distilled at Savanna in 2006, then rested 15 years in steel/glass before Old Brothers bottled it. Several tasters land on "tutti frutti" and marzipan, but the savory, grassy spice takes over on the palate. As one member put it, this rum "is only exuberance."

  • Intense ester nose
  • Ripe tropical fruit
  • Alcohol well integrated

Loud pineapple-and-olive ester bomb A love-it-or-hate-it ester bomb. The nose wins everyone over; on the palate the funk turns savory and a few feel fruit drops out behind the spice.

Perfect for

Fans of high-ester Savanna funk and overripe-fruit profiles

Less suitable for

Anyone wanting balance, finesse, or a gentle sipper

Different from savanna herr because it is more subtle in the end... It's less punchy but it's still very good for ester lovers

Wonderful profile! Beautiful fermented fruit. Goes in the direction of Lontan, but not quite as many esters.

Kiwi and harlequin on the nose. Harlequin which comes back to the mouth with herbs of Provence
