Samaroli Enmore (Versailles) Caksus REV 1994
"A bit sharp on the alcohol, less balanced than the others" is how one taster sums up the split here. This 27-year Versailles pot still from Samaroli leans dry and woody — leather, oak, dried fig, prunes, dark chocolate, licorice, with real bitter and roasted edges. Give it 30 minutes to open. Loved on its own terms, but many REV 1994 fans rank it below its sister casks.

How does Samaroli Enmore (Versailles) Caksus REV 1994 taste?
Summarized by AI from community reviews.
Dry, woody Versailles with bitter edges A very good aged Demerara that most people enjoy — dry, woody, leather-and-prune heavy. The honest catch: fans of the 1994 REV run often find it less intense and more bitter than sibling bottles.

REV-1994 Tasting on 12.10.2024 Here’s my order (impressions of nose and palate each counted 50% towards the overall rating, in case of a tie the length of the finish decided, which happened for ranks 1-3, they were incredibly close): 1. RX12425 2. RX121 3. RX11107 4. RX21851 5. RX12203 6. 11402 So far, this is the most unspectacular REV 1994 for me. Warning, daily form should not be underestimated!

Quickly gone, miss the complexity, clearly more on the bitter side
Review by Galli33
Very delicious, balanced rum. The wood and alcohol is integrated well. It‘s more on the fruity side in comparsion to other REV. Pleasant to drink. I think this one is watered down🤔 Nose: Fruity, dried fruits, plum, prunes, alcohol, woody, oak, roated, leather, spicy, pastries Mouth: Alcohol, dry, delicious, full bodied, complex, balanced, sharpness, dried fruits, plum, prunes, leather, oak, licorice, spicy, vanilla, roasted, black tea, burnt sugar Finish: long with tastes of oak(barrel), chocolate, vanilla, black tea

I like the rum very much. What I like is that it stands out somewhat in the otherwise very similar-looking mass of REV bottlings, which are all of the same high standard. The alcohol is a little rougher and otherwise not perfect either, but this gives it character where otherwise smoothness is predominant. The finish suits me the least. Crosstasting 2025: Samaroli REV 1994 Wood, chocolate, vanilla and molasses characterize the profile. Roasted aromas, syrupy density and notes of burnt sugar and herbs. Powerful finish. An underrated bottling that flies under the radar, wrongly so.

Very high quality, but it does not come (without direct comparison) to the other REVs. It lacks something the beautiful dried fruit, it dominates rather bitter notes.

This is a retasting with the RumX guys and I stick to my score. ------ It was nice to try this rum again and I was confirmed in my former score. A nice Versailles with dried fruit, leather and roasted wood. Nice and dry on the palate without it being too much. Like the tannins released on the finish.
Review by DomM
While nose and finish deliver in line with the other 94 REVs, there is a lack of intensity and complexity on the palate compared to other releases. Not sure if this was just a bit to much reduction… still good stuff carried by nose and finish but somewhat behind some sister casks.

An REV is always something beautiful. Especially when it's so beautifully old. 27 years, even if it's "only" continental, that's quite something. Nose: intense and full-bodied. Spicy and woody with a strong note of pencil shavings and molasses. Bitter orange with a dash of lemon meets cedar wood with nutmeg, caraway and lovage. Then dark caramel and molasses again. You can't get enough of this. 9,0 Palate: wow, intense, powerful and at the same time full-bodied and round. Woody and spicy, with lots of molasses and treacle. Dried bitter orange with dried fig meet violet licorice. Oh yes, lots of violets! Behind that, slightly bacony tonka bean with nutmeg and caraway and slightly burnt aromas. I like it all very much.9.0

Super nice fruity and spicy Versailles. Very balanced with a good balance of spice, chocolate, tannins from the wood, light herbal notes and tannins like a strong black tea, only the alcohol could be a tad better integrated.
Review by Serge
You can't go wrong with a 94 ... there are a few better bottlings of the vintage, but it certainly tastes good. But I think there are better options for the price. Alcohol tweaks a little, bitterness in the finish bites slightly with the profile.
Review by Martin Augustin
Super nose of leather, chocolate, honey and coffee. Lots of honey, dark chocolate, vanilla and leather on the palate. A great taste experience. Great Guyaner.
Review by Basti
On the nose, in addition to the classic brands, some citrus fruit, herbs and varnish. Spices, wood, leather, tobacco and licorice predominate on the palate. For me, it has everything you could wish for in a 94 REV, both on the nose and on the palate.

The nose is complex. The dried fruits are at the head of the pack. The whole is completed by a nice dose of woody-spicy which makes this olfactory bouquet more than interesting. In the mouth, there is some pep but the alcohol is perfectly integrated. It's less fruity than the nose, but it's quite greedy thanks to the caramel and prune notes. Some oak pushes from the shoulders into the pack and the tobacco gets a little acceleration. It's full-bodied, complex and very pleasant on the palate. The finish is nice, warm and dry on chocolate/tea. The conclusion is simple, a very good continental Demerera! This allows us to finish this tasting more than in beauty (except bonus)! Well done Alain, when will we see a new selection?

Intense woodiness emanates from this juice. Leathery. An earthiness. Heavy. Well stuck to the ground. The impression is confirmed on the palate, with omnipresent but very pleasant wood. Oak, leather again, spice on the finish. Hints of chocolate and prunes for sweetness. I think we're on the verge of wood juice finally bottled at the right moment. Long, reassuring, chocolatey, coffee finish. And that ever-present woodiness. I wouldn't drink it every day. But I'm glad I got to try it!

On the nose, still with a rather mild, well-tared impression of the REV profile from 1994, the tart notes come to the fore on the palate. Tart spice, slight bitterness from the barrel as well as recognizable toasty aromas add some character to this drop, but somewhat to the detriment of balance. Nothing is woody or even over-aged here yet, though the age is more noticeable than in other releases - which is somewhat surprising given the manageable alcohol content. Overall at the lower end of the 1994 REV spectrum, which still means we're dealing with a very good release. That also speaks for itself.
Review by Mirco
In direct comparison, it falls well below other REV Top bottlings. Nevertheless, a very nice bottle of rum, which knows how to create complex and balanced notes. Wood, fruit, spice and alcohol are well balanced.
Review by zabo
After Mrs. Zabo snatched the RX121 from me, I had to taste this one with a cigar. Unfortunately, it can't quite keep up with the RA, but is still of very high quality, like most 94er REVs.
Review by Leo Krüper
My favorite in the 4 tasting against VM, RA and Rumclub. Seems younger than the others and more playful. Chocolate, tobacco and leather, but also herbal forest walk in the rain. Slight bitter notes.

24-04-2026 - Rate 8.9 Second time tasting this fantastic Versailles from Samaroli. First I will say, the time in the glas does it justice. Leave it 30 minutes before drinking it. Deep taste full of dried fruits. A big low ABV. 04-07-2026 - Rate 9.1

Nice, but too watery... Enmore - a distillery in operation, now just a functional distillation device. Probably the only wooden distillation device in the world that enjoys great popularity. Enmore rums have flavors of ash, leather, heavy wood, which especially excite fans of smoky whiskies. And if the producer adds a bit of molasses to the rum in the traditional Guyanese way, you have a unique, very intense and heavy rum in the bottle. One of my favorites.
Review by Mentalo
For me, the 'weakest' 1994 REV so far. I don't find it as well balanced as the top bottlings of the vintage. (Slightly) bitter wood notes come more to the fore here. Overall a bit less complex. But still a good bottling.
Review by Piotr Ignasiak
Quite nice release, on a bitter side. On the nose starts off with a coffee, then dried fruit, leather, Guyanese wood. Pallette add a medicinal dimension. Looking forward to trying RA one next. Thank you Dr Django for sharing the sample.

A very fine, elegant REV
Review by Filip Šikula
On the palate, it gives a slightly thinner impression than its REV-branded and 1994 vintage contemporaries. Taste-wise, it is still very very complex, but again a little weaker than what one would expect from REV. Still, this is a very high quality piece!
Review by FischeJ
Spicy, woody, fruity. Nice REV. Could have used more power in direct comparison, but it doesn't taste watered down either. Unfortunately, it just lacks intensity. Nevertheless, a wonderful bottling.
Review by Herr K
I find the Samaroli 1994 Rev very tasty. Alcohol is super integrated and totally pleasant. However, I wonder why it is so tame. That's not bad, you can drink it very well, but compared to the other 94 Revs it stands out. It smells great of coffee, plum, chocolate, and wood. On the palate, wood, plum, and leather come through and it is really full-bodied.
Review by Alex1981
A bit sharp on the alcohol, less balanced than the others
Review by Michal S
Lots of old wood, leather, dried fruit, with added roasted notes, dark chocolate and liquorice. I've probably drunk better and juicier REV 1994, I miss more fruit here and maybe a little too much wood and bitterness.
