Saint Aubin History Collection - Mauritius 1814-2014 Cuvée Grande Reserve Récolte 2014 2007
Sipped neat, this drinks green and herbal more than sweet — grass, black tea, herbs and a touch of olive, with dried fruit hiding in the background. Made from molasses on a column still, but it reads closer to a mild agricole, dry and light-bodied. The oak turns up in the finish, and even at 40% the alcohol makes itself known. Pleasant, quirky, but a bit unbalanced.

Dry, herbal molasses rum that drinks agricole-like Members land around "drinkable but not exceptional" — the vegetal, tea-and-herb profile is unusual, though several find it over-oaked and the 40% still noticeably hot.

J’ai pas spécialement aimé, trop boisé. Pas grand intérêt. Ça se bois mais rien d’exceptionnel

I find the smell much more pleasant than the taste. The alcohol is clearly noticeable. Quite unbalanced for me.
Review by Johannes G

My bottle definitely tasted over oaked and slightly earthy.

Read full review →The ageing process has left its very own mark on the rhum. Despite 40%, the alcohol is still present, not particularly unpleasant, but still noticeable. The mouthfeel is full-bodied. The finish is initially fruity - tart and then slightly woody with vanilla and licorice at the end. I was particularly surprised by the dried fruit aromas, as I did not necessarily expect these to be so pronounced in an aged Agricole. For me, the association with a Demarara is closer here than with an Agricole.
