Five & 20 Spirits Hamilton 151 Ministry of Rum Collection Overproof Demerara River
Coffee, dark chocolate, leather and molasses, with a hit of orange peel — this Guyana overproof comes in hot at 75.5% and most people don't sip it. Several tasters call it essential for tiki cocktails and it shines in a Rum and Cola or Dark and Stormy. One member noted a "lighter caramel/toffee note" that reads slightly sweet. Röstig, punchy, a bit rough around the edges.

How does Five & 20 Spirits Hamilton 151 Ministry of Rum Collection Overproof Demerara River taste?
Aggregated from 31 community reviews.
Hot Demerara overproof built for tiki mixing Most drink this as a cocktail workhorse, not a sipper. Hot but flavorful — coffee, chocolate, molasses — some find it a touch simple neat, but it lifts almost any dark rum drink.

Hot one. No way a sipper but this will make any cocktail rich and bold.

A woody nose with notes of coffee and dark chocolate, but also a herbaceous side with tobacco and tea and fruits such as bitter cherry. I don't find this complexity on the palate, which is a shame! The palate is dominated by woody, bitter notes of cedarwood and tobacco. A little molasses too. The finish is rather short, still on bitterness and cedar wood, with a hint of licorice and prune. An interesting, easy-drinking rum with fine flavors, but a little simple and lacking in depth.

Kneipe Caribbean Club Barcelona Mai 2026. Ja das ist ein recht geiler Overproof. Anders als ich es erwartet hatte, ist dieser sehr röstig. Schokolade, Kaffee, Leder und etwas Holz sind hier gut erkennbar :)

Certainly not a sipper but for me an essential bottle when mixing (TIKI) cocktails. The OFTD is really no substitute here. Already because he is not a pure Demerara like this. No gourmet rum but a tropically matured Demerara with a little rough taste but horny (and cheap) for cocktails. Unfortunately, with us not to have.

Really cool dirty overproof Demerara Rum. Pure molasses taste, certainly makes a top figure in tiki cocktails. Must buy me sometime. Horny device!
Review by abaker-rum
The rum starts with a cola, pineapple, banana, and coffee scent. At 151 proof, it comes in quite hot, but with great flavors of baking spices, finishing with a long taste of crème brûlée and bananas, similar to a Hampden rum. This rum makes for a great floater to heat up any tiki cocktail.

Punchy and hot. The nose brings coffee, tobacco, leather, orange peel. On the palate the heat hits first but there is sweetness and depth - leather, tobacco, earthy, licorice. Not one that I could imagine casually sipping neat, but it is nice experience to sip in a small quantity and has a really clearly defined profile. It also goes great with Pepsi and in cocktails, bring lots of flavour.

Gutes Potenzial, aber zu alkoholisch.

Baking spices and wood with a hint of citrus on the nose. Certainly not coffee I would drink, but a certain 2nd wave coffee expression. Punchy and sweet on the palate with a hint of salt. Long, pleasant dark chocolate finish.

Absolutely essential 151. Spices up almost any drink.

Best Demerara 151 rum out there. Beats Pussers 151 and Lemon Hart 151. Still prefer OFTD slightly better as an Overproof option

Molto potente, con un retrogusto di dolcezza…caramello aggiunto?

Chocolate hits the nape straight away and that demera delight ... Typical notes of demera on the nose ... Heaven scents of butterscotch... Taste is that typical oak smokiness that is divine wow such a delight to drink.. I only had a small dram so didn't cocktail this but man the UK needs to import this ...

Read full review →I would say the lighter caramel/toffee note makes this slightly "sweeter" overall. It stands up to just about anything you throw at it. It makes a great Rum and Cola and an even better Dark and Stormy. Most drinks that call for a dark Demerara rum will benefit from this....
