Mount Gay Extra Old XO Cask Strength Rum
Aimed at drinkers who want a Barbadian sipper with the volume turned up: at 63% this pours coconut, vanilla, burnt sugar and oak with a floral, toasted-orange nose. Several tasters note it drinks close to a Foursquare from the bourbon cask, and one liked that it "taste more like FSQ with just MG tail." The catch a few raise: the alcohol isn't always cleanly integrated.
The community says- Full-bodied cask strength
- Coconut and vanilla
- But: Hot, under-integrated alcohol

Aggregated from 21 community reviews.
Coconut-and-oak Bajan at full cask strength Well-made 15-year cask-strength Bajan with coconut, vanilla and oak. Loved by some as full-bodied and balanced; others find the heat under-integrated and the distillery character faint.

This is a great full body cask strength rum and I can only recommend it. Only 3000 bottles made so you have to be fast.

The nose is pungent, the palate intense with vanilla, coconut, burnt sugar, wood. Alcohol not particularly well integrated. The finish is medium long. Tastes like an average Foursquare from a bourbon barrel. I'll stay tuned and keep looking for my first really good Mount Gay.
Review by Nico Köppe
Initially in the nose a great start, roasted orange, pleasant barrel notes, almost floral.... Taste leaves some herbal, alcohol is quite present and unfortunately not as well integrated as I remembered. Also the typical distillery character is very lacking here. In the finish quite quickly passing and without further occurrences. A very high-priced rum that has not picked me up today.

Read full review →After trying this the XO does seem a little "watery" but only immediately after drinking this at nigh on Cask Strength. A very well made, well balanced and blended authentic rum. Highly recommended. If the price is a problem then just go for the regular XO an perhaps a bottle...
