Samaroli Hampden Caksus Jamaica Rum (Recalled) DOK 2009
Mystery hunters and label sleuths will get a kick out of this one: it says Hampden DOK, but almost nobody tastes a Jamaican in the glass. Most members peg it as a heavy Demerara — leather, tobacco, burnt sugar and a lot of wood, finishing dry on espresso. There's some fruit and dried apricot up top, but the funk you'd expect just isn't there.

A DOK is definitely not! I do not even think that is a Jamaican... maybe a blend with Long Pond... if this nose with great fruit would have persisted on the palate, it would have been a really great rum! Unfortunately, however, the palate can not keep up... it is not complex and intense enough... too bad! But good he is nevertheless!

I would not necessarily have recognized as DOK. Much more fruity and sweet, almost floral on the nose. The esters are there, but not overpowering everything. I find more papaya and kiwi here instead of pineapple and banana. Sweetness of orange syrup comes in and even a hint of tobacco. Very unusual.Also unusual on the palate for a DOK: spicy-woody up front, only then do the esters come in. At first, licorice and mint are discernible for me. Slightly bitter and toasty-bacony it is. In the back out even a little grassy.licorice and something grassy also in the finish.Can not actually believe that this is a Hampden and even a DOK should be!?!?!! Would have rather put it with Clarendon. (Although he is not bad, even quite tasty).

I'm curious if at some point it will come out what was really in it. My guess is either a Monymusk or a Hampden OWH. In principle, a good rum that lacks some character.

The big mix-up in the glass: DOK is on it, Demerara is in it. Unfortunately, nothing more is known. My tip would go to Versailles and not a bad one. On the nose notes of burnt sugar, some spices, pleasant fruitiness. On the palate, however, much darker. Roasted aromas give the rum a dark, deep undertone that I didn't expect. More wood and thus probably more years on the hump than I would have suspected after the nose.Long finish, which becomes very dry and thus underlines the palate again. In my eyes, not worse than the expected DOK, but of course a completely different corner!

The first ones who opened this bottle must have seriously wondered about it.it has nothing of a Jamaican.it is rather on the side of Guyana, on a heavy and robust rum on which leather, tobacco and wood dominate.at the end of the mouth, one has literally an Espresso in mouth.Too bad that the alcohol is too present.

So DOK or not DOK? Well, not DOK actually! This bottle was mislabeled and had to be recalled by Samaroli. But what does this bottle actually contain? Nose: caramelized molasses/spices/dried apricot Taste: woody/smoky/tobacco (so it's not a very young rum) Dry and long finish on coffee. But the mystery is and will remain a mystery even if I will be curious to know the real origin of this bottling. But what is most important in the end: it's good! Thanks again to Min for this gift which allowed us to have a good laugh while trapping our participants! PS: this DOK 2009 (Fût n°15 - 60%) was originally a duo box
