Sipped neat, this is a cask-strength Martinique agricole that leans dark and woody more than grassy. Expect vanilla, almond and caramel up front, then a wave of pepper, cinnamon and toasted oak, with dried apricot and orange zest trailing a long, warm finish. Several tasters called it a "Holzbombe" — a wood bomb — yet the 57.7% stays remarkably well integrated.

Outstanding Agricole. Opulent fruit aromas, wood, spices, nougat on the nose. On the palate, the heavy notes come more to the fore, the profile is perfectly shaped and offers Agricole at its best.

Very nice Agricole. Top!!!The nose like a chord on the guitar, harmonious, very complex, but individual facets are difficult to taste out. Perfect in the mouth. The 2001 is my favorite, still absolute recommendation to buy, as this will be a collector's item in a few years.

A rum for big nights that starts with a sublime and very complex nose. The frame is fresh on flowers and aromatic herbs, before changing tone and turning to a more gourmand and spicy profile: caramel, brown sugar and candied notes link with wood, pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla and ginger for a very fine and delicate aromatic bouquet. Also found are notes of chocolate, coffee, almond and toast. Fruits, especially dried (apricots) and exotic (pineapple) are more in the background. The touch of solvents, original for an agricole rum, makes the difference with the 2005 Vintage. The attack on the palate is very gourmand and flavorful. The sweetness of pastry notes (toffee, caramel, viennoiseries) brings a lot of roundness to the palate. The spices come back strongly with woody and empyreumatic notes (hazelnut, coffee, chocolate, smoky and roasted notes) more marked than usual on agricole profiles. The fruits, in the background, however enhance the level and bring a nice balance of flavors in the mouth. The alcohol is very well integrated in this profile both expressive and sensual. The finish is long, warm, ample and delicate. The spices, wood and roasted notes (coffee, almond) go hand in hand with toffee, caramel and chocolate, thus prolonging the gustatory pleasure in the mouth. Compared to the 2005 Vintage, this Chantal Comte is slightly rounder and less agricole. A rum of great class, which breaks from the traditional profiles of the French Antilles.

Now that we're at it we decided to crack open this one as well and we're really happy that we did, because we all agreed that it's even better than the 2005. The nose is very fruity with almonds and vanilla with sone toasted oak added to it. The palate is wonderfully balanced and complex with fruit, cinnamon and vanilla. Then to add to the wonderful experience some smoky oak. The finish is forever and warm/woody with orange zest and marzipan.

Color: Bright red-brown Aroma: Sweet, elegant, fruity and delicious. Aromas of candy floss and cake batter, vanilla and almond. The fruitiness is reminiscent of strawberries, raisins and Mon Cherie. Taste: Round and spicy. Aromas of Black Forest gateau, raisins, cognac and toffee. There is also a hint of herbal toffee. Finish: Long Woody, peppery and spicy. Also cognac and toffee. Dry and pleasantly woody in the aftertaste. 88 points

Especially at the beginning intensely alcoholic and solvent-like, which then subsides and turns into wood and tropical fruits. The taste is very intense and complex. First Agricole then tropical fruits then wood. The agricole underpins the entire flavor.

Stunning nose and taste. The rum is very thick in the mouth and the flavors just burst out: wood, spices, vanilla, citrus fruit and so on. This is a very complex rum with a long finish. The only downside is the slight orange note in the finish as I’m not the biggest fan of it.

👃 Lots of Bourbon vanilla, well-candied sugarcane in various forms (barley sugar, praline, caramel, pastries), candied and dried fruits, dried apricots, smoke and noble wood essence, fresh herbal notes like light eucalyptus. All aromas form a magnificent harmony. 😋 More barrel flavors, toasted wood, spices, pepper, vanilla, cocoa, that woody smoke is present throughout the tasting. Candied and caramelized sugarcane gently settles on the palate. Quite a bit of dried fruits and candied citrus, some tropical fruits more in the background. A comforting whole where the alcohol is very well integrated. ⛳ Long, warm, spicy. Soft caramel lightly heated in a pan, orange and kumquat zest, roasted almonds, melted licorice that prolongs this finish for a long time. 💡 Everything I expect from an excellent agricole. Complexity, sugarcane and candied fruits, spicy wood. Very good point, I did not find those damp barrel flavors I dislike in many other agricoles. An elegant, balanced profile with lots of typicity.

So far I haven't really warmed up to Agricole, so it was time for a little crosstasting. 1st RX7238 (Neisson Full Proof): Overall more on the fresh/fruity side. Alcohol very well integrated -> 8.5/10. 2nd RX10968 (St. James V&B): Here I particularly like the nose with the subtle glue note, tropical and dried fruits. On the palate then clearly spicier/roastier and slightly bitter -> 8.6/10. 3rd (RX1146) La Mauny: Quite sweet on the nose, with lots of caramel, dried nuts and vanilla. Nuts and vanilla. A floral note initially on the palate, then spices and wood dominate -> 8.5/10. 4. RX2216 (Kill Devil Bellevue 1998): Mint, chocolate and some smoke on the nose. On the palate also chocolate and mint, plus wood, caramel, some tropical fruit and leather. Fruits and leather. I liked the taste best. -> 8,7/10. 5th RX6221 (Karukera Velier 70th): For me the most "agricole" on the nose. In contrast to the other representatives in the tasting, I can tell directly from the nose that this is an agricole. I can detect typical fresh, grassy notes, sugar cane and unfortunately also a slightly musty note. I also find it quite floral/flowery/grassy on the palate. -> 7,9/10

Quite a sharp smell, but very complex. Vanilla, walnut, and wood. Very great taste with lots of natural sweetness from honey and caramel. But also the typical grassy agricole notes come through. Warm and pleasant finish. Great product.

Wonderfully intense Agricole, rather on the dark side with lots of wood and cherry, overall a very elegant, coherent profile. After the second tasting, I have to slightly raise my rating: This rum is really at the perfect point between very intense and yet perfectly integrated, non-intrusive alcohol. Additionally, a wonderfully complex profile. Great Agricole art!

Very nicely balanced, wood is not overpowering the other finer notes. On the nose is not a straight up Agricole for me. On palate it's clear, very rich and complex. Perfect alcohol integration. thanks JacobM for sharing a sample.

On the nose solvent, red fruit, jam and wood On the palate intense but also delicate and sweet with hints of red fruits, wood, citrus, pepper (maybe too much) accompanied by excellent roundness and perfect alcohol integration, medium and woody/forest finish. Here is a rum that I find very accomplished, coherent, and balanced. The barrel aromas dominate but they are varied and balanced among themselves. The alcohol brings a nice power to the whole. Only downside, the nose seems a bit closed.

Le nez est INTENSE ! C’est plus que parfait. Il faudrait garder un sample juste pour s’en servir de point de comparaison pour le nez des rhums agricoles. Je n’ai pas de souvenir d’un rhum agricole avec un nez aussi charmeur. C’est chaud et envouteur ! On a des épices, du boisé, du fruité, de la vanille, des fruits secs … une palette aromatique hyper concentrée ! Vous aurez compris, je surkiffe ce nez … En bouche l’alcool est parfaitement intégré alors que nous fleuretons avec les 60%. L’attaque est très gourmande sur le chocolat. Ensuite on retrouve le côté épicé du nez.

Chantal Comte 2006 Brut de Fût, Maison La Mauny, a rum that shows great mastery, on the nose spices mingle with beautiful woodiness, it's fruity, floral, a bit of vanilla, and an incredible warmth, you find this warmth on the palate, with very marked spices, a nice woodiness, very complex, with an incredibly long and persistent finish. A very beautiful product! 🥃
