Menthol is the surprise here — a cool, almost medicinal streak that runs through the wood, black tea and leather. This 2005 Vendome pot-still St. Lucia, 15 years in bourbon casks at 59.3%, leans dark and "dirty" with glue, tobacco and chili spice, fruit sitting behind. Several tasters call it a dirtier TDL cousin. Give it air; the wood softens and it rounds out.

Rum and chocolate tasting by Rum Club Switzerland. A woody nose with black tea and leather, but as if slightly attenuated. Tobacco and heavy oak on the palate. Short to medium length. A well-made rum, but a little dull and monolithic, the heaviness a little pronounced for my taste.

First of all, I find this bottling the weakest of the four Chairman's tested today. Fruit acidity on the nose. Something between citrus fruits and unripe apples. The alcohol stings a little on the nose, less woody, a little tobacco. Acidic, burning, spicy sharpness on the palate. Very dry and furry on the finish. Earthy, soapy, dry herbs and continued acidity.

Tasted in direct comparison with the RumX bottling. The first thing that stands out is that the German Edition is much more immature compared to the RumX. Lemon and green apple instead of ripe tropical fruit. Wood and spice are much more restrained. The somewhat lighter color also speaks for a weaker barrel influence. The nose is nevertheless pleasing. In the mouth, the acidity is once again very present, and the alcohol is much more unpleasant than in the RumX. That is to become really annoying at the edge. Behind that is then the herbal side plays up big: Green peppers, chili, black tea. The finish continues to be sour and astringent without much new facet. The nose is really nice, but this comparison unfortunately shows a class difference.

No idea what my problem was here 4 years ago but I have to correct this rating upwards 😆 overall rather very mentholy fresh, sour and slightly spicy after green chili, spicy fermented, bitter, rubbery and a little umami. Not 100% to my taste but 4.6 points back then was definitely not fair. maybe something was wrong with my sample 🫣😆

Very tasty rum from Saint Lucia. Good balance between fresh mint / menthol, lemon and dry woody leather and tobacco. A little pepper and chili is also there. Compared to the GotA more alcohol in the taste, although actually less alcohol contained. The menthol flavor is much more intense here. Thus less round like the GotA, but still super interesting.

another St. Lucia firecracker 💥 The Nectar 15 Anniversary was erwas stronger with the dried fruit faction. This one goes more in the direction of 'dirty TDL'. I like but also really good!

Killing bottles again at last. Second rum after the time out and what better way than to teach your buddy rum. Today one of my favorite countries - StLucia. This time the German Edition, and it's simply a great one. Strong spicy wood notes, but not unpleasant. The fruit is more in the background and harmonizes very well with a strong rum!

Oh oh another beautiful Chairman! St Lucie is really something, especially on the very old ones. Wood, wax, tobacco galore, with a background of fruit and caramel that lighten a rather dark profile. The only note that brings the total down a little is that the yellow lemon is quite noticeable, and not necessarily to my taste.

At first glance, I thought, wow, this isn't your kind. Very dry, lots of wood and leather. Very bitter and spicy. A slightly fruity note at the beginning, already somewhat alcoholic, and I thought a bit of glue. If you give it some time, it becomes rounder and the wood recedes a bit into the background, but still remains fully present. Then I liked it much better.

Crosstasting Saint Lucia: Chairmans German Ed. (RX11467) vs. Chairmans Kirsch (RX15045) vs. Chairmans Antipodes (RX13430): The nose is already very interesting, honey-like sweetness, red fruits, a mix of wax and rubber and floral tea notes accompanied by wood. Very complex and much to sniff, but the least intense. On the palate then an equally interesting sweetness, which I also associate with honey, maybe my nose and expectation are playing tricks on me here. The alcohol could be better integrated and I have a slightly soapy taste. Choosing a winner here is insanely difficult. All are great and very different. For me the Antipodes wins with a photo finish, closely followed by the Kirsch. And just a little behind comes the German.

It's been a great year, probably one if the craziest one's ever 🥰 Met many new run friends both online and in person, travelled a lot Germany, Belgium, France and Sweden. Next year should be a bit more tranquil I hope, because I have a ton of samples 🙃 Nose Woody, light roasted, light chocolate, light peach, leather, faint smoke, cinnamon, light earthy. Palate Warm, wood, light roasted, faint salt, orange, light plum, light mint, light caramel, clove, light mango. Finish Long and warm, wood, faint smoke, banana, dried fruit, light chocolate, clove. Very diverse aromas on the nose, fruity, a little smoky, good notes of glue, then black tea and rubber. Rich on the palate! Mint, chili spiciness, but also graphite and hall floor. Has a bit of menthol, such a hot and cold experience.

An opened and diverse Chairman’s Reserve that attacks directly with black tea and menthol to enchant the nostrils. The smoke and roasted/toasted oak come next, accompanied by spices, red fruits, and apricot. The medicinal side, on glue and rubber, contrasts with tobacco and caramel. A lush and expressive nose. We find a very elegant, multifaceted profile. Tobacco, black tea, and menthol open the show before oak and spices (pepper, anise) enhance the flavors on the palate. The empyreumatic notes are very present and compete with the vegetal notes for mouth supremacy. The fruits are indulgent but brief, as is the caramel. The medicinal side plays the troublemaker and asserts itself as the third force in the mouth with the glue. The profile is powerful and astringent but shows good alcohol integration. The finish is very long, dominated by herbal, earthy, and mentholated markers as well as woody, spicy, and smoky notes that peak at the end of the mouth. Leather is present throughout, supported by dried fruits and the astringent side. A very nice bottling, both original and powerful, whose bold profile makes the difference. The quality/price ratio is very good.

Nose: Leather, wood, dry. Taste: strong, upfront (briefly) a bit sweet then wood, leather, coal and the cask strength. Not for beginners. For special days, maybe with a nice cigar.

Oak and a hint of cherry. Caramel, a notion of glue. In the mouth super complex. Probably the best I've had from Chairman's Reserve. Cherry cough syrup, light menthol cigarette, tobacco and everything. More oak. Dark golden pour. Pretty nice. If anything a touch too much wood but that's a small gripe here. Finish medium to long, more wood and some light sweetness. Sample thanks to xamsx.

Of the SLD Vendome bottlings I've had, this is by far the fruitiest. Lots of the iconic Vendome grunginess up front followed by bright fruits and mintiness. Gives the impression of a long aged TDL but crossed with the SLD industrial notes. Amazing rich and oily mouthfeel, the oak isn't too dominant. This is just spectacular.

An incredible nose! After pouring a few centiliters into the glass, the aromas quickly filled the room. On the palate it's superb, fruity mainly at the attack and bitter and mentholated on the finish. The balance is magnificent. Very hard to find a flaw. Thanks Ben for the tasting.
