Sipped neat at 50%, this is a classic 1990 Hampden that lives on the nose — an explosive tropical fruit basket of banana, mango and overripe pineapple wrapped in croissant and marzipan, with roasted wood underneath. The palate turns a touch earthy and plays sweet against sour pineapple. Several tasters note the dilution shows on the palate, thinner than the nose promises, but few hold it against a rum this rounded.

If you like Hampden then I can describe this rum in two words; Yum Yum. Explosive nose with lots of fruits and some roasted wood and pastries and it carries onto the profile as well. Well balanced and very good ABV integration.

A Hampden 1990 that came into my hands by chance... Nose with lots of fruit, esters, and wood, very harmonious and balanced... gets better minute by minute. On the palate very balanced tropical fruit basket with mango, pineapple, papaya, a bit of honey, and light wood notes, all top-notch on the same level. The dilution is noticeable but not overdone, so it's within limits and totally fine. I'm incredibly curious what it will deliver in the Mai Tai....

Today, the Samaroli versus one of the great 1990s HDs, the RA from 2021 (RX7787). The differences are more pronounced than I thought. The RA has more punch (due to the higher ABV) and is more reminiscent of lemon marmalade. The Samaroli is a little rounder, more tropical fruit basket (papaya, banana, kiwi), with croissant/butter croissant. The nose of the Samaroli is simply stunning! On the palate, I like the RA a little better (probably also due to the higher ABV). As a result, however, the Samaroli easily ranks among the benchmark 1990 HDs!

A 90s Hampden just the way I love them. Besides the classic markers, you can smell and taste roasted notes a bit stronger than usual. Also, you can taste a slight earthiness on the palate and finish. The dilution is noticeable on the palate but definitely doesn't harm the quality!

Insanely well-made 1990s Hampden with the perfect drinking strength. Not too thin, not too heavy. Nice sweetness that reminds me of brioche and marzipan combined with an overripe, slightly sour pineapple note. Extremely rounded and easy-drinking aromatics. A nice one! The only downside here is the rather cheap-looking screw cap on an otherwise high-quality packaging! 😄

Crazy thing. One of the best Hampden noses I've ever had. Then the great finish with a slight sweetness that feels like a melt. Really light-footed and impressive. 90s Hampdens are a special class of their own.

Wow! I somehow had low expectations because I thought it was probably past its prime. But that's not the case! Fantastic Champions League 90s Hampden profile! Super nice esters, fruity, long with a slightly astringent finish. Dreamy!

Great 90s Hampden that clearly shows its strengths on the nose. On the palate, it’s a bit "thin". What I really like, though, is this play between sweet and sour. Since I prefer higher proof at these temperatures, it suits me very well.

Thanks a lot, Olli. Milder Hampden. The nose is a bit sticky and fruity, nice golden yellow color. Not many legs in the glass. Quite easy-drinking. Citrus fruits in the taste. Long, refreshing finish. Overall very tasty, mild. But I can just as well enjoy an OWH from Velier. Proud price for an outstanding rum that I'm glad to have tasted once. For the true enjoyment that would tempt me to buy a bottle of this surely unique rum, I lack knowledge and experience.

Hampden 1990 never disappoints. This one has rather low ABV and it results in less complex profile, but it is among top league anyway. Tropical fruits from nose to palate, some decent wood, sweetnes, some butter, roasty notes, honey. Great bottling.
