Woody, spicy and deep, with sour cherry, dried fruit, tobacco, coffee and licorice, plus a streak of glue and varnish that fans of this profile love. Aged 17 years tropically at cask strength, yet the 59.1% sits beautifully integrated. Several tasters call it one of the best Bally vintages, though a few prefer the slightly edgier, more bitter 1999.

The nose fresh from the newly opened bottle initially carries one of the most intense varnish and polish notes I've experienced in a rum so far. Behind that, fresh fruit notes with cocoa, hazelnut and nutmeg gradually emerge, paired with wood and roasted notes. Milder, more balanced and somewhat more elegant than the 99er Brut de Fut, which does not devalue either of the two differently designed profiles - a Bally highlight.

Very intense, expressive, and complex Agricole. Heavy sweet fruitiness, floral and flowery, and at the same time mature and strong. For me, it doesn't quite reach the 1999, but it's very close.

Another lovely rum, fresh and woody with spices and dried fruit. There is a light floral note in the background. Medium dry with chocolate, tobacco and coffee. Would have loved one of these in my collection.

Intense and rich on the nose with some glue adding to the JB profile. Dried fruits as well as cherries alongside vanilla and cinnamon. On the palate: brilliant showing of the JB profile. The high ABV is perfectly integrated and provides additional depth and a very long finish.

9:On the nose, sugarcane, grassy, flowery, herbaceous, fresh with tea, citrus and yellow fruits, roasted wood notes like caramel, chocolate, pastry, nuts, spicy with cinnamon, perhaps allspice and vanilla, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, raisins, cherry, fermented tropical fruits arise, the cane is earthy with tobacco, candied, black pepper, nutmeg, coffee join, the wood is slightly resinous. 8,9:On the palate, the attack is intense, heavy, slightly medicinal, fresh with tea, flowery, grassy sugar cane, herbaceous, earthy with tobacco, sweet with honey, dark with licorice, candied, fruity with citrus, yellow fruits, a but fermented, raisins, the wood is roasted, slightly resinous, bitter, dry and tannic with chocolate, coffee, leather, spicy with vanilla, pepper. 8,9:The finish is long, dry&tannic, with roasted wood, spicy with vanilla, cinammon, peppery, fresh, grassy sugarcane, candied, vegetal, mineral, earthy with cigar tobacco, fruity with orange peel, lemon, raisins, sour cherry, slightly fermented tropical fruits..

An absolute masterpiece and without a doubt one of the best Agricoles ever made. A divine drink! Intense barrel aromas meet the typical Bally notes of sour cherry, red and yellow fruits, cinnamon, coffee, black pepper, dark bittersweet chocolate, vanilla, and tobacco. Heavy, intense, slightly astringent, highly complex, and extremely delicious. The finish is very long and the alcohol is perfectly integrated. I would really love to do a cross-tasting with the other Bally BdF vintages... Definitely on par with the also fantastic 1999! Although the 1999 is a bit more exciting.

Noble Saint James with a great overall combo. For me, it’s not enough to top my Saint James reference from Corman Collins. Alcohol is very nicely integrated for 59% without losing power and expression.

For the 700th tasting discussed here, it has to be a fine drop of course. 😉 And this Rhum is exactly that! You feel the tropical aging and depth from every pore. For me, this legendary Bally scratches the 90 points, but stays just below in this tasting because of the somewhat too "Jamaican" nose and the a bit too woody-spicy-dry palate impression. My thanks go to @Rumurmel for this great sample.

Wonderful and extremely complex Agricole; both fresh and bitter/heavy with tobacco, coffee, various spices and cask aromas. On the palate you taste sour cherry which lasts long into the finish.

Oh wow, what a delight this is. Wonderfully intense on the nose, dried fruit, vanilla, and cinnamon, with light barrel notes. On the palate, a delicious warm cherry pie. Barrel notes with sweet cherry and vanilla. Delicious spice and coffee notes. Wonderful warm, long finish, full and complex. Overall everything is in balance. This is my first experience with the JB profile. What a delight.

On the nose it is wonderfully rich and intense with varnished wood and red fruits, then vanilla, chocolate, warm spices, and a bit of tobacco. Sometimes you can also perceive a slight note of very light leather/toasted. On the palate it keeps the red fruits, the wood with extraordinary body, then sweet dried apricots, tobacco, vanilla, and a little black pepper. The finish is nice and long, persistent, sticky, round, and it pampers your mouth. In the empty glass, leather and wood. A complex and deep gem, among the best Ballys ever.

Was ein epischer Abend mit einem Flight nach dem Anderen, die unbeschreiblich waren. Ich erspare mir jeglichen einzelnen Kommentar dazu, weil mir teilweise die Worte fehlen. Vielen Dank an Jakob. For me so far the best bottling I've had from Saint James in the glass. Nice wood note, some fruit, tobacco, and light roasted notes. The alcohol is perfectly integrated, nice complexity and fairly long finish.

Cross tasting with 99 and 06. While I enjoyed all, and seems agricole was a right call for today, I think this one is the winner. More delicate and finer then the other two, especially appreciate lighter, fresher and more fruit forward profile balanced by the darker, spicier barrel notes. I was looking a long time for a bottle of 99, but might need to do the same now with the 98.

Magnificent agricole rum, the nose after good airing is very complex and balanced, the palate is in the same register, everything well blended between roasted aromas, wood, dried fruits, vanilla and cherry, tobacco and pepper, slight bitterness that carries the finish with licorice and coffee.

Wonderful old Agricole. For me, just a touch ahead of the 1999, which I find a bit too bitter. Here there is a bit more balance, a nicely integrated alcohol, and a long finish. Excellent!

The nose is good, complex and hard to place. The taste is super intense and nice with heavy vegetal, woody and spicy notes. Especially liquorice, dried fruits. The finish is very pleasant, quite long but not super long. It has heavy spice, liquorice and woody notes with a hint of orange peel.
