A.H. Riise Non Plus Ultra Black Edition Rum
Sipped neat it drinks like a dessert in a glass: caramel, vanilla, toffee and dark chocolate, with cherry, strawberry and banana candy notes layered on top. At 42% there's no heat — it's soft and syrupy. Members are clear it's extremely sweet, more liqueur than rum, and some pick up an artificial "hubba bubba" edge under the sweetness.

How does A.H. Riise Non Plus Ultra Black Edition Rum taste?
Aggregated from 619 community reviews.
Very sweet, dessert-style candy rum Loved by sweet-rum fans for its creamy caramel-chocolate character; dismissed by others as a sugared candy drink that buries the base. The one constant: it's very, very sweet.

Sweet dried plum and raisin, chocolate and cinnamon... all of that rushes powerfully into the nose and continues on the palate! Creamy, almost liqueur-like, the rum spreads out. In the finish, alongside chocolate and dried plum, a touch of bittersweet chocolate joins in! Overall, this rum gives me the impression it wants to be more of a dessert... but a delicious one.

A smoky chocolate flavor with a warm plum finish. Vanilla and caramel round out the flavor profile. However, the added sugar is quite strong and dominates on the palate and in the nose. A clear recommendation for sweet rum lovers.

Sugar with flavors, glycerin, water and alcohol at an overpriced price.

Day 23 of my Christmas Calendar. Still find it very sweet and lightly spicy with flowery notes and some Christmas spices. -------- Another sweet rum from Riise with a burnt smoky palate and finish. Still too sweet for my palate but a well rounded rum all the same.

Nach längerer Zeit wieder im Glas und immer noch gut…

A rum with a wonderful Virgin Islands base, but spoiled by kitschy taste additions like strawberry flavoring and other flavors that seem rather unnatural.More a kitsch dessert than a rum.But the base of this rum fascinates me, you can feel it between the sweet additions, but you have to make an effort ;-)

The taste offers notes of cedar wood, vanilla, caramel, golden fruits and molasses.

First time in a long time trying this. Had some tiramisu and decided to pair this with it, but it’s actually sweeter. The tiramisu at least has a bit of bitterness from the coffee. Far too much sugar for my palate nowadays. Scored it way higher in the past. Only way this bottle will ever be emptied, is by adding it to a coffee or maybe ask my girlfriend to make a rum cake with it. Or perhaps over ice cream in stead of caramel sauce. I can’t seem to enjoy it anymore.

Flüssiges Dessert.

Wow. Extrem süß. Eine wirklich super Nachspeise, allerdings kein typischer Rum. Schmeckt schokoladig, leicht fruchtig.

A very sweet dessert rum. On the nose, it comes across pleasantly soft with hints of chocolate, caramel, and fruit. On the palate, you can possibly recognize the fruit as citrus, maybe orange. You also find the sweetness and chocolate from the aroma again, and in the background, my pleasant rum base is noticeable. The finish is soft, sweet, and has a slight touch of ginger spice. All in all, a successful rum if you like it sweet and chocolaty.

Very sweet, like a liqueur. Instead of a dessert. How much gr sugar was the dosage? Overpriced!

Nose: caramel, rose jam, blackcurrants, vanilla, dried fruit, powdered sugar Flavor: raspberries, blackberries, toffee, lemons and oranges, pineapple, cherries in liqueur, cinnamon Finish: ginger, dark chocolate, blackberries, orange peel, sugar Very enjoyable rum. I know it's very sweet, but I like every type of rum, both very sweet and super dry.
Review by crazyforgoodbooze
Take the already very sweet non plus ultra and add the flavors of gummy bananas, strawberry cream candies and pink cocktail cherries and again an extra portion of industrial sugar and a little more caramel... Et voilà: black edition. Mic drop, over and out. Sorry but no, just no.

8:On the nose, we discover a very dark Riise. First coffee, then lots of molasses, black, thick and licorice-like, creamy orange, dark chocolate. This thickness is enveloping and even heady, reminiscent of a very sweet coffee or a burnt, buttery caramel. The brand's trademark candy character is present, but for now it's smoldering under the ashes. It's the aeration that will deliver all the unbridled confectionery we're used to from these rums. Candies join the party: cherry marshmallows, strawberries, tangy banana. 7,8:On the palate, the attack is very soft, then gives way to a whiff of Christmas spices. Another of the brand's signatures, these spices are indeed present. A torrent of vanilla then carries off a host of sweets: milk-strawberry candy, cherry lollipop, creamy orange, vanilla whipped cream. 7,2:In the finish, licorice finds a small place, surrounded above all by a world of powdered sugar.

Very high residual sugar content, you have to like it. A little sticky on the nose, irritating at first, but not disturbing. Otherwise a wonderfully long finish of wonderful aromas.
Review by primus
Surprisingly clean nose, flattering baking aromas, caramel, dark chocolate. Unfortunately a sugar bomb on the palate. The only interesting thing are the strawberry flavors, which I didn't know otherwise, but which fell into my glass with 20 cubes of sugar.

Fantastic.. Best NPU from AH Riise
Review by Korkennase🥃
The absolute sweet rum king. The nose is taken by the sweetness and reminds me of brandy beans 😵. The sweetness is also very dominant in the taste, as well as in the finish. The Plantation XO was already a sugar bomb but this rum can top that. Who stands on sweet rums is in good hands here. Too bad that such a product is so messed up with sugar... sorry..., I can not understand. For science 🥃.
