Sipped neat and slow — at nearly 68% this is not a mixing bottle. Expect the classic dirty Caroni signature: tar, rubber, bicycle-tube and smoke, cut by tropical fruit and even glacé cherry. The 18 years and long bottle time have rounded it, but the alcohol still runs hot. Menthol and roasted, bitter notes stretch out an enormous finish.

End of the bottle and we're afraid the rum has stale. All the aromas are present, with perhaps a softening due to the long oxidation in the bottle. The nose is reminiscent of a machine shop, but also of tropical fruit. The palate is full and greedy. The finish is magnificent! An excellent representative of Caroni.

A Caroni as intense as it is elegant. Time has surely tamed it, but the result is there: the nose offers a nice contrast between the freshness of menthol, the roundness of dried fruits and caramel, spices and the empyreumatic notes typical of Caroni style (licorice, smoky notes, hydrocarbons and well-roasted oak). A rum of great class. The attack on the palate is just as lively. The intensity of the petrol and mechanical workshop notes competes with the warmth of the spices and smoky notes. Note a salty touch and tropical fruits that bring a very pleasant new dimension to the palate. Despite a powerful and dry profile, the alcohol remains very well integrated. The finish is extremely long, on mentholated, even medicinal notes, contrasted with warmer, roasted and bitter notes that recall the salty style of Caroni. Exotic fruits, tire, rubber and tar bounce around the palate to excite the senses. A rum that was clearly worth it at its release, and which will surely not be possible to taste anytime soon. However, this 2000 vintage is a true nectar that perfectly represents the illustrious defunct distillery.

Wow, this one is very intense and complex. Perfect balance between fruits and typical dirty Caroni notes from 2000 vintage. This one outclasses its sister cask selected for Lion's Whisky by far. An amazing rum. Probably the best 2000 vintage together with The Nectar in my opinion 👌

... Caroni is a distillery from Trinidad, producing rum at the height of its fame, which was added in a ratio of 1:10 to naval blends. It was too strong and strange to be pleasant on the tongue. In 2000 the distillery ended production and was closed. Only in 2010 did tasters appear who liked the rum precisely for its special taste. And interest grew. Caroni belongs to the category of rums "you need to try before you die." I recommend it, Caroni is really a unique rum.

A very powerful smell of the HTR mark Spicy at the beginning of the mouth then gives way to the typical distillery markers. Tropical fruits almost candied and cherry arrive in the back of the mouth with, all along, the HTR framework.
