Savanna The Wild Island Édition - Cascade 2007
Cask-lovers are the right audience here: this 13-year Savanna leans hard on its Cognac and Port aging. Expect a basket of red fruits — strawberry, cherry, blackberry — with dark chocolate, leather, licorice and a peppery, vinous edge. Several drinkers note the wood takes over, muting Savanna's usual pineapple-and-violet funk. Balanced and warm, but the finish runs shorter than the nose promises.

How does Savanna The Wild Island Édition - Cascade 2007 taste?
Summarized by AI from community reviews.
Fruity, Port-driven Savanna with peppery wood Well-liked as a fruity, spice-and-Port Savanna, but a recurring gripe: the Cognac/Port casks dominate and the finish stays medium-short. Not the strongest in the Chai Humide line for some.

Together with DomM we tasted a few Savanna today. Many thanks to Johannes for the samples. The biggest disappointments were the RX232 and the RX11264. My personal favorite was the RX9608. The RX11034 and the RX11515 just made it over the 8 points.

Relatively dry savanna. Chocolatey-vanilla on the palate with cherries.
Review by Mirco
Red fruits on the nose, especially strawberry and cherry, plus vanilla, fine wood and peppery warmth. On the palate dark chocolate with a vinous undertone from the port finish, which brings depth and tension. Cleanly structured, good drive, medium-long finish with spicy accents and red fruit.
Review by Tschusikowsky
A balanced and fine thing. It reminds me starkly of a Trident chewing gum from my youth. Various fruits with partly leathery, slightly smoky, woody notes. Unfortunately, there is a lot of alcohol in the forefront of the nose over time.

Beautiful mouthfeel thanks to the port finish. Lots of red fruits and a finish on pepper. Always a pleasure to revisit the nose of this beautiful Savanna!
Review by Jakob
Surprisingly sweet rum that develops intense chocolate-vanilla notes on the palate in combination with tropical, slightly fermented fruits. Pleasant.
Review by Tim
Great Savanna with port finish that adds the red and sour berries, chocolate and delicious spices. A special feature is found in the finish: herbal notes like tea join the roasty coffee and the other flavors. A tad too acidic in the finish, which gives a few points off. Overall, however, not bad :-)
Review by DomM
Even after quite some time to breath, the nose presents itself rather closed-up. I get wood and leather notes alongside red fruits/berries with a hint of cherries. In no way bad, but not very present overall unfortunately. On the palate, the port finish is more distinguishable for me. But in a good way. Red fruits, cacao, leather and Christmas spices make for a rich and deep experience. Very nice overall.
Review by mto75
Nice nose with red fruits, vanilla, milk chocolate, leather, old barrel and licorice. On the palate vanilla, cherry wood and a slight peppery note. I would have wished the port wine finish to be a bit more pronounced, I mostly perceive the previous aging in the cognac barrel.
Review by Johannes
Nice complexity, but I would have expected more.
Review by TheJona'Spirits
Review by TheRhumhoe
A balanced Savanna, with beautiful spicy notes that go hand in hand with the wood, leather and toasted notes. Then come fruity notes, cheerfully brought by the cognac and port casks, ranging from apricot to tropical fruits and dried fruits, passing through red fruits (cherry). There is a beautiful harmony of aromas. On the palate, we find an expressive rum that masters its subject. The cognac and port give the roundness generated by the fruits (especially red ones) while the spices and toasted and caramelized notes bring indulgence. The alcohol is very well integrated, offering a nice balance in the power ratio. We find a beautiful finish adorned with spices, licorice, red and exotic fruits, with a hint of bitterness on coffee, wrapped in a slightly more astringent and alcoholic wood. The alchemy works well and offers a very evolving olfactory and gustatory experience. A traditional Savanna well crafted and honoring its terroir.

02-09.04.2022 This was crazy week, where some friends and I rented a nice summerhouse on Rømø. The plan was to go nuts for a whole week with different rums without going overboard. The final agreement came to 6 rums a day and then enjoy nice walks or ferry rides during the day. Day 6 Notes Medium to dark in colour. Nose Light wood, fruits, floral, light citrus, faint polish. Palate Warm, round, light wood, citrus, light floral, light salty, light banana, spice, faint polish. Finish Medium long, light wood, citrus, light salty, faint olive.

I definitely expected more here, rather disappointing. It's delicious, drinks absolutely well, but the cognac and port cask have simply gained the upper hand and the pineapple, violet, strawberry and generally fruity notes have almost no chance of coming through... Good thing I only took a sample! Unfortunately the weakest chai humide overall... The relatively low alcohol content is also a disappointing factor here. Not a bad rum but absolutely no chance compared to Chai humide 8y and 10y or the Savanna Madras!
Review by Agricoler
Good rum that doesn't fully convince me. Nice red fruits that seem a bit dried. On the palate good woody, spicy, slightly bitter. The finish is very tasty but not really my thing. Tip top.
Review by RumTaTa
Good Savanna, nose and palate quite restrained, I expected a bit more. Aftertaste quite intense though.
Review by tojo
Typical Savanna in smell and taste with lots of red fruits, a pleasant sweetness, light spice notes and leather. Port wine notes also come through here. Finish rather short.
Review by DosenZorn
Wow, what a fruit basket that hits you on the nose is insane. Red fruits, forest berries, cherries, plus some moist fresh wood and sweet chocolate and a subtle polish/lacquer smell. Later the fruits fade and spices take over. I could smell that forever. On the palate it goes in a similar direction, only the wood notes stand out more clearly than the fruits. I'm a big Savanna fan and this one plays in the top league way up there. Long finish and top integrated alcohol!

Nose: indulgent on beautiful woody/fruity with a saline touch. Palate: damp wood/red fruits. Finish: long on peppery with a slight bitterness. Personally, I really like this bottling with a complex and intense profile. And the good news is, I have a bottle waiting for me in the cellar.

Schöne Toffee noten in der Nase. Dabei leicht fruchtige Anklänge. Wundervoll fruchtiger Geschmack. Mit einer schönen kirschige Note. Auch im Nachgang eine schöne note. In der Nachtverkostung um 0.2 nach oben korrigiert

A traditional rum, decent but not exceptional. On the fruits, the spices, quite strong alcohol on the nose but rather well integrated on the palate. A very average length.
Review by Rodolphe
Very good rum. The port left a vinous side full of indulgence but without being too pronounced either.
Review by Righrum
Definitely not the best savanna traditionnel i tried so far. The casks influence is dominant and hides part of the savanna traits I love, it takes time to be able to find them. The nose is really driven by the cask, wood and red fruits, traits that I find also drinking along with more typical savanna notes, a balsamic trait and green apple.
Review by Thunderbird
A good Savanna with beautiful fruit! The palate is mildly pleasant and also fruity! A slight woody spice to finish. The alcohol is perfectly integrated. The finish is slightly woody, herbal and unfortunately too short! Very tasty ! 2nd tasting compared to cask 985, Here it loses significantly! Especially after a standing time is almost only alcohol to be perceived, so I deduct a few points
Review by Beach-and-Rum 🏖️🌴
Very fruity Savanna with a pleasant sweetness. Spices and cask influences are also present. At the end, slight hints of caramel come through. The alcohol is not perfectly integrated for my taste. It also lacks some complexity. Still a nice Savanna.

Too bad the port cask is noticeable.. Not my thing, port.. But it's still successful, you can really feel that damp cellar side..

Very yummy with red fruits & vanilla. On the palate some pepper & leather shows up as well. Unfortunately rather short finish

Aroma of dried fruit, red berries, barrel, herbs. Taste also a combination of red berries, cherry, forest fruits, wood. Finish not very long, fruit, herbal notes, cherry. Everything from aroma to finish plays nicely together. A successful piece.

Nice volume on the palate, at first bold. Fruity.

Rums from the Savanna distillery are some of my favorites. I recommend everyone try especially the ester-heavy pieces like Grand Arome or HERR. You haven't felt so much fruit in a few drops of liquid for a long time.

This one was a struggle, there are some nice aromas but so much that stood next to each other without building one flavour. A weird combination of apple and tarragon that is just weird... No this is not the star of the wild island
