After a quick discovery of the rumfest, we bought the bottle and had a real tasting and direct comparison with its 2003 counterpart. The nose: enchanting, a real bohneur and a perfect balance between the freshness of the cane, the fruitiness and the darker contributions of the cask. The degree is perfect, so you can dive right in without having to dab your nostrils afterwards. The 2003 was more on the barrel. On the palate: insanely greedy, super. In short, a top-notch Agricole, a model of delicacy and balance that I found even better than the 2003 precisely because it reduces the woodiness and puts even more fruit in the glass.

Reminds me of the distillates from Clement. The higher alcohol content really does this rum good. But it lacks depth.

Very good stuff, HSE as a single cask at a high level. Very intense and complex despite only 48%. A rounded mix of dark aromas and spices, lots of wood and various yellow and green fruits (esters?!), less roasted notes like in other HSE single casks. Compared to the MEB2019, the nose is less woody but fruitier. The finish is extremely nutty and more roasted, which I really like.

An agricole rum with a beautiful complexity on the nose; tobacco, raisins and milk chocolate among others. The attack on the palate is soft and smooth, also quite complex with a vegetal side balanced by notes of raisins and chocolate. The finish is long, very long, with lots of spices, dark chocolate and fermented tobacco. Some Demerara notes (old leather) in my empty glass. A really complex and super pleasant rum to drink. Wonderful balance and intense as well as dry on the palate. I like the spices and wood as well as the light chocolate and tobacco on the profile. Price to quality is very good in my mind.

A single cask with an absolutely fabulous nose. Very balanced between candied and tropical fruits, spices, tobacco, cocoa and a slightly earthy freshness. The palate follows a similar pattern, both complex and balanced. The finish is slightly below what this rum offers beforehand, but the impression on nose and palate remains remarkable. A very good 2006 vintage.

A really great rum, also comes across like a "dark" rum. Very woody on the nose, but also spicy. Some cocoa is also recognizable. On the palate also very "dark". Wood, cocoa and (dark) chocolate are recognizable here.

Hmm, very nicely woody, orange, red, maybe rather black currant. No, this is not a New Grove. Maybe a Saint Lucia? I only came to Agricole very late, but then with certainty. Les Ephemeres No. 7? Solution: Wow, great HSE delivering the usual high quality.

A very agricultural nose with a well-present woodiness. Also vanilla. Citrus too. Discreet fruits. A note of tobacco. On the palate, the woodiness is very elegant. It accompanies the same elements as on the nose. It's really very good. It has a nice length and finishes on a delicate bitterness. Very good. Many thanks to Rodolphe for the sample.

I sampled this rum this afternoon and was very surprised by it. This rum is right up my alley, beautiful woody notes, tobacco and some fruit with a slightly dry finish. I might buy a bottle in the future.

Very very delicious and exciting Agricole. Despite the rather low alcohol content, very intense, aromatic, complex, and full-bodied. Sour cherry, apricot & honeydew melon meet dark chocolate, pecans, cinnamon, and cocoa. The bourbon cask also comes through well here but is not too dominant. Very elegant and balanced. Positively surprised! 2006 is and remains simply a top vintage for agricole! 🥂

Wow, das ist soweit ich weiß der beste Agricole, welchen ich bisher verkosten durfte. Die Nase ist wunderbar fruchtig und harmonisch. Gewürze, Fasseinfluss, frische Töne, Früchte und Leder - es fehlt an nichts. Am Gaumen wurde ich dann vollends überzeugt. Wahnsinnig geniale, honigartige Süße, übergehend in Gewürznelke, Zimt und Leder. Dann Muskatnuss, Tabak, dunkle Schokolade und viele kandierte Früchte. Eine wundervolle, cremige Textur durch die angenehme Trinkstärke. Der wirklich lange Abgang ist ebenso komplex und überzeugt mit vielen Gewürzen, Fasseinfluss, Holz, Muskatnuss, Rosinen und nussigen Tönen. Mit Kakao, Tabak und Schwarztee klingt er aus und die Agricolenoten halten sich noch lange im Mund. Sehr, sehr lecker und angenehm zu trinken. Danke an @Tim für das Sample 🙂

Well, that was really good. Really first-class agricole. A colplex nose that offers everything from floral notes, tobacco, tea and chocolate. The taste is no less interesting. On the contrary. Fruit, wood, tobacco, all perfectly balanced.

At trade shows, whenever I stop by HSE, I find it too woody and my palate saturates. I took advantage of this Christmas to open one, having only drunk wine before, and what a bottle. Superb balance of wood, fruit, empyreumatic and a reduction done to perfection.

When I started my rum journey and bought a bottle of HSE XO, I was absolutely thrilled by the high quality and complexity of this standard bottling. Meanwhile, I've tried quite a few more rums from Distillerie du Simon and have to say that I really like this profile between lush fruits and oak spiced with spices. This very fruity single cask bottling is no exception. A very fine Rhum Agricole!

Le nez a des marqueurs plus marqués par le bois, qui nous font entrer dans l'univers des vieux rhums martiniquais. Des notes puissantes de tabac, type cave à cigare, nous font passé dans un univers plus cosy. Beaucoup de fruits à coque, notamment des amandes torréfiées, des épices d'hiver accompagnent un parfum de prune en sirop. Le nez est vraiment excellent et s'affirme encore plus en le laissant s'aérer. La bouche est suave ; l'eau de vie nappe le palais de la richesse des fruits à coque grillés, avec encore cette amande encore plus présente. Le boisé est très présent mais raffiné. On sent bien qu'on goûte quelque chose d'abouti par un vieillissement tropical conséquent. Quelques notes d'anis accompagnent la fin de bouche, vers une finale tout en tabac, en réglisse et en cacahuètes/noix de cajou/amandes. La seule déception vient de la longueur un peu courte pour un rhum si vieux. C'est un rhum avec beaucoup de classe, un rhum de gentlemen à déguster avec un cigare dans un canapé en cuir, dans une vieille bibliothèque, et un feu de cheminée. Le costume en tweed s'impose. La note aurait pu friser l'excellence avec plus d'explosivité et de complexité en bouche, et surtout une longueur plus persistante, mais ça reste une belle expérience.

Pleasantly balanced and round between spices and fruits, slight oak aftertaste, notes of toasted dried fruit and tobacco, still very delicate. Medium finish and mainly dry, but a slight hint of fruit remains, just like in the empty glass.

The tasting of this rum leaves one perplexed. It is not easy to identify aromas like in other rums. I notice that it is on this type of rums that the adjective "complex" is found. That is not what comes to mind here. I would rather say harmonious: the aromas have been so skillfully assembled that it gives a whole difficult to decipher but pleasant. The profile remains too dark for my taste.

Distilled in a Creole column and aged 15 years in French oak casks. A real good agricole candy with a marked but well-controlled woodiness, loads of spices, dried fruits with this hint of pepper that lifts everything and a finish on toasted bread and nuts. If you like agricole rums, this is a bottle you absolutely must have on your shelf or in your bar 😊

Pleasant balanced nose that remains complex, On the palate it is round and you feel the wood more than on the nose. Some vegetal cane notes recall the very appreciable agricultural side. Maybe a few degrees less alcohol to be fully convinced. Beautiful product with an exceptional nose.

The rum surprised me with its delicacy and depth, I don't like Agricole much, but this is something different. First sweet notes of dried fruit and honey, which gradually turn into spiced wood. I don't know why but in most Agricole rums I taste gooseberry. It feels warming.
