A.H. Riise Signature

Sweet-tooth drinkers who like their rum leaning toward candied orange and vanilla will feel at home here. Expect strong caramel, tropical fruit and a distinct orange-peel note, with a longer, sweet finish that a few tasters call the best A.H. Riise has done. One reviewer flatly compared it to Cointreau — this is dessert territory, not dry sipping.

How does A.H. Riise Signature taste?

Aggregated from 86 community reviews.

Sweet orange-vanilla sipper, dessert-leaning Most agree it's the more interesting Riise: caramel, orange and vanilla with a slightly deeper, spicier finish. The recurring catch is the sweetness — several find it sticky and liqueur-like.

Here vanilla, fruit, and caramel come together. The taste is very spicy and strong with mild oak, even nutty. The finish is spicy and sweet. Maybe the value for money is a bit high, but finally a rum that actually tastes like rum.

Bursting aroma with loads of tropical fear and caramel. Velvety on the tongue with an eminent complexity.

8,5:The nose immediately gives us the brand's very traditional oily-orange character, but with a hint of finely spiced herbal notes that further refresh the whole. The orange then leans towards yellow lemon, or rather a syrup made from its juice. Aeration brings a more powdery, gently spicy profile, with the softness of an orange cookie with powdered sugar. Various spices continue to evoke pastry, and we even go so far as to imagine a buttery cookie dough. 7,5:The palate is less round than expected, but of course remains very sweet. The orange peel is amply candied and encrusted with sweet spices such as cinnamon, cardamom and nutmeg. A hint of licorice indicates molasses, then dilutes into lemon syrup. 7,3:The finish is long, thanks to the citrus peels that imprint their oily bitterness on the palate... Edit:27.7.25, very nice on the nose, then...

This is the latest top shelf release from Riise and it's also pretty sweet but the difference is in the finish where it has a bit more bite than the other top shelf rums from them. The nose is very fruity with sweet caramel, spice and very light wood. The palate is sweet with lots of fruit trailed by sweet caramel, vanilla and a hint of wood and tobacco. The finish is long and sweet with fruit and vanilla. This is one of the best finishes I have tried in a release from Riise. Price to quality can be argued, I got a very good deal, so for me an OK price.

This is more like Cointreau orange liquor than like rum. One-sided, overly sticky sweet. Vanilla sugar with a light spiciness to it. I'm puzzled why this one scores so high.

There is a distinctive vanilla/caramel aroma on the nose. This is confirmed on the palate. There is also a fruity, woody aroma with a sweet, warm finish. One of the best from A.H. Riise, unfortunately this is offset by the high price.

Vůně trošku dřevnatá, květinová a nasládlá. Jsem rád, že jsem měl šanci ochutnat.

Brand

Old St. Croix

Avg Rating 7.5/10 51 Rums

Old St. Croix is the current name of the Danish rum house that traded as A.H. Riise until June 2025. Both names point back to the same man: Albert Heinrich Riise, a pharmacist who settled in the Danish West Indies in 1838 and exported his rum under the Old St. Croix label. The house style is soft and dessert-leaning, built on sweetened blends rather than dry spirit, and it splits opinion in the community more than almost any other brand on RumX.
