Don't come to this Port Mourant looking for the syrupy, dark-sugar version — it's the drier, roasted-smoky "continental" style. Anise, licorice and old wood lead, with a whiff of pineapple, dried fruit and rubber underneath. Several tasters call it clearly a sipping rum, not a fun pour, and note the 53.5% stays a touch present. One member found it turning buttery and rounder mid-palate.

#5428 25.06.2025 Enjoying a few samples while watching a crime series on the telly. Nose: Round, wood, light nuts, dried fruit, faint pineapple, light metallic, light vegetal, faint smoke, plum, light marzipan. Palate: Oily, round, wood, light roasted, light licorice, faint coconut, faint olive, light citrus, light nuts, light acidic. Finish: Long, raisin, light nuts, light prunes, light berries, light herbal, light licorice. Empty glass: Licorice, prunes, light herbs, light banana, light orange, faint chocolate.

Wood, anise, licorice, some pepper - subtle sweetness and tropical fruit on the finish. Unfortunately, the alcohol remains a tad too present. The flavor spectrum of the continental PMs becomes a bit too tart for me without a counterpole; although the dwell time in the barrel already has a somewhat mitigating effect here, the counterpole of sweetness and fruit remains a bit too restrained for me. A good bottling overall, but with recognizable weaknesses.

Advent calendar tasting #12 It's not bad, even though I've had better Ports Mourant than this one. Nice pineapple notes, a bit of anise, a pretty oaky touch, a little roasted and smoky side. I still like it.

The color is very light with slight coppery highlights. The nose and the entry on the palate are typical of the profile. However, it then evolves into something more buttery and indulgent. The finish is really pleasant.

🥃 M – Masam Port Mourant 2003 – 53.5% A 2003 Guyana with 18 years of age, bottled by Masam. After the passing of Silvano Samaroli, his wife Maryse continued to keep part of his legacy alive through these releases. A very typical profile of continental Port Mourant: pineapple, anise, wood... and especially that little roasted-smoky side that makes this rum quite divisive. Clearly more of a tasting rum than a “pleasure” rum.
