Neat, this one fights back: at 59.6% the alcohol bites hard and most tasters find little behind it beyond vanilla, a bit of wood and burnt caramel. Where it actually earns its keep is in a Cuba Libre — the high proof cuts through lime and cola nicely. A few found faint dried apricot and green apple, but "drinkable, definitely not more" sums up the neat verdict.

Reminiscent of a fruit spirit - alcohol meets a smattering of stone fruit, gentle citrus notes and hints of vanilla and caramel. After that comes - nothing. An extremely uncharitable selection that does not do justice to the Rum Artesanal brand at all.

Edit: so it works in a Cuba Libre. Ok, the reviews of this rum are quite devastating. After the two Romdeluxe T.D.L from 2002, a cigar with a Hearts 1999, there was a basis to try this rum. Neat I agree with the ratings here. There's not much there. But in a Cuba Libre it's a weapon thanks to its high ABV. Actually, you only taste lime and cola there, which is very dangerous and allows for a quick buzz. Thanks to DomM who practically talked me into buying the bottle for 15€. Definitely better for the price than HC3 or other supermarket mixers.

Oh dear, what happened here? Even after more than an hour of breathing time it's still alcoholic, sharp and piercing?! Flavor-wise also totally one-dimensional with some vanilla, tobacco, wood and burnt bitter-sour caramel, as well as some milk chocolate... To me it rather reminds of an overproof Havana 7 that briefly looked askance at the Venezuela cask... Very sad!

The weakest bottling of Rum Artesanal to date. The rum is too wild and biting. Except vanilla, some wood and alcoholic spiciness, unfortunately, not much comes across.

A light nose and palate for the volume of alcohol. However, I find this rum rather pleasant and easy to drink, with caramel and spices. My sample may have aired out, as I bought it over a year ago. It clearly lacks a lot of things, length etc. but I find the opinions given harsh because this rum isn't that bad! In any case, I don't have the alcoholic side that everyone has mentioned, so I'm very surprised!

Die Kritiken bisher sind ja eher schlecht. Mal ein eigenes Bild machen! Nase: der Alkohol ist sehr präsent zu Beginn und beißt auch ordentlich. Dadurch wirkt er metallisch frisch. Dahinter ist aber doch etwas mehr. Getrocknete Aprikose und grüner Apfel, dazu Vanille. Es kommen zunehmend eine Schokoladen-Note und eine Karamell-Süße durch. Hinten raus wirkt er leicht holzig. Gaumen: auch hier wirkt er zunächst alkoholisch, metallisch und bitter. Es kommen herbe Gewürze Richtung Muskat und Nelke mit einem Hauch Vanille. Vielleicht noch etwas Grapefruitschale, sonst ist da nur noch frisches Holz. Insgesamt ist der Alkohol zu schlecht eingebunden. Ihm fehlt tatsächlich tiefe und Finesse, die kann man bei Cuba aber m.E. selten finden.

Auf Grund der bisherigen Bewertungen wollte ihr die Flasche erst garnicht öffnen, aber ich dachte mir es ist vielleicht der passende Rum wenn die Sinne durch Corona eh etwas eingeschränkt sind 😅. Eigentlich wollte ich auch mehr beschreiben, aber es gibt leider nicht viel zu sagen. Eindimensional, langweilig, scharf, etwas Fass und Vanille. Natürlich gibt es schlechtere Rums, aber in Verbindung mit meiner ursprünglichen Erwartung vermutlich das Schlechteste was ich seit langem verkosten musste. Trotzdem etwas mehr Punkte als die meisten anderen bisher vergeben haben. Aber nicht um ihn zu loben, sondern nur um bei meiner persönlichen Skala zu bleiben :(. Der perfekte Rum für einen Abend in Quarantäne mit eingeschränkten Geschmacksnerven. Prost!

That something like this, from a previously reputable independent bottler, appears, makes me personally very speechless and sad... especially looking at the bottlings of the last 2 years. I absolutely don’t understand that someone decided this had to go into the bottle now. For me the rum simply has no added value! Neither for drinking neat nor for mixing. I can’t even say much about it because there simply isn’t anything to describe. It has a strong alcohol hit and some vanilla... PERIOD

On the nose not much more than vanilla, also unpleasantly alcoholic. On the palate there's some milk chocolate, the sharp taste is not well balanced at all, the thin acidic finish does the rest. Even the very thin standard bottlings from RA taste much better. Very weak.

Is this perhaps the worst RA release? - probably! Is the rum too expensive for the quality? - yep... definitely. Is the rum bad? - nah... just unfortunately not good enough to be dressed up in such a pretty outfit. I also like to drink rough and wild rums with little pretension sometimes. So I can handle this Cuba rum briefly. I don't know what the finish is supposed to be. I'd rather have it in a high ester barrel or something similar. I once started with Cuba rums. Really hoped for more. 10 euros less and everything would be fine. Then just label it as a mixer and done. So it's pretty disappointing and a bit the beginning of the end for Artesanal. Even the best mess up sometimes... If only it had stayed that way...😭 PS: works surprisingly well in Coke 👍👍👍

Über diesen Rum wurde vermutlich schon genug gesagt und naja, ich kann auch schwer etwas anderes sagen. Während die Nase trotz sehr präsenten und scharfen Alkohol zumindest etwas Tiefe verspricht, bleibt davon am Gaumen nichts mehr übrig. Scharf, eindimensional und das trotz Finish, hier lief echt einiges schief. Einzig der grasige Nachgeschmack, der vergleichsweise lang bleibt, ist überhaupt anzumerken. Ansonsten: Totalausfall. Könnte geschmacklich auch ein Discounter-Schnaps sein…

Empty glass Caramel, vanilla, wood, dried fruit. The ABV is a bit dominant and the finish pretty short.

It's a challenge, this run, starting right from the nose. Very alcoholic and biting, with some vanilla and caramel detectable. On the palate also very alcoholic, plus we have vanilla again and a bit of wood.

Entspricht nicht der Erwartungshaltung an einen RA. Sehr beißend in der Nase. Geschmack ist dünn und eintönig. Natürlich kann man für den Preis keinen High End Rum erwarten. In der Preisklasse ist es ein Mitläufer.

Da werd ich auch mal meinen Senf dazugeben.😉 Ich geh mal nicht ganz so hart ins Gericht wie meine Vorgänger, aber an der Nase ist schonmal nicht viel, bissl Vanille und ein leichtses kribbeln das wars schon. Geschmacklich auch recht leicht, da ist nicht viel,leichte süße von Vanille gepaart mit alkoholischer Schärfe die in Bitterkeit aufgeht und auch so endet. Auf den Punkt gebracht: dünn,leicht,scharf,bitter! Den Preis nicht wert.
