Romdeluxe Mount Gay Wild Series Rum Barbados No. 22 (Unicorn Set Vol 1) BMMG 2001
Sipped neat is where this 20-year Mount Gay single cask makes sense — it's cask strength and dry, not a mixer. Expect green banana and green apple, oak and baking spice from the bourbon barrel, with caramel and vanilla underneath. A few tasters found it fruity with roasted wood; others felt the classic Mount Gay profile just didn't grab them.

How does Romdeluxe Mount Gay Wild Series Rum Barbados No. 22 (Unicorn Set Vol 1) BMMG 2001 taste?
Aggregated from 18 community reviews.
Dry, spiced 20-year Mount Gay sipper Well-liked but not universally loved. Fruity, spiced and woody with real vanilla, though several found it dry, light-bodied and younger-tasting than its 20 years suggest.

The sample is apparently from the 1.5 L bottle of this rum, but makes no sense to me to have twice the same rum in the database. For me, this bottling is something special that I have not had before. Green unripe fruits, like green banana or green apple meet wood and spices injected by the bourbon barrel. Caramel or marzipan in the background. Spicy and peppery mouthfeel that leaves an intense vanilla note followed by candied fruit and spicy bitter chocolate. Very good!

Tine flies and I didn't have time to add the tastings yesterday. Had a great evening with the two Unicorn releases with good friends and needless to say I wasn't able to drive anywhere myself afterwards. This Barbados release is marked BMMG and is pretty OK. Fruity with roasted wood and some vanilla. The empty glass on the other hand was really nice after an hour or so.

Amazingly good!

For a Mount Gay a comparatively exciting bottling, which is also ahead of the sister release for micj. But I'll stick with it - overall, the MG flavor profile doesn't pick me up enough.
