CDI Caroni Trinidad 1993
Here's the surprise: it carries the Caroni name but barely tastes like one. Lots of citrus and tropical fruit on the nose, dark chocolate, vanilla and a peppery bite on the palate — pleasant enough, but most tasters call it thin and over-diluted, with the tar and "dirty" Caroni signature mostly missing. Several people flat-out compared it to an Angostura.
- Bright citrus nose

How does CDI Caroni Trinidad 1993 taste?
Aggregated from 21 community reviews.
Fruity but thin, weak on Caroni character Divisive. A few find it a fruity, easy-drinking 22-year-old, but many Caroni fans feel it's watered-down and lacks the smoky, tarry profile they expect from the distillery.

Hardly typical Caroni flavors present. Tastes more like an Angostura. Disappointing bottling from Compagnie des Indes.
Review by crazyforgoodbooze
Unfortunately for me an absolute flop. Tastes more like an Angostura rum with 1% caroni times obliquely viewed. Unfortunately very weak and quickly gone. Since the felicite with only 40% can even more....

This is a very rare bottle and there is a reason why. This rum is a typical Caroni from the nose to the finish. The nose is velvety with tropical fruits and camphor, some barrel with the typical polish and tar as well. The palate is well balanced with plum and cherries in the foreground and smoky barrel and ester to it. The finish is long and persistent with plum and spices. Price to quality is very good.

not really convincing. There are really clearly better Caroni's

... Caroni is a distillery from Trinidad, producing at the time of its greatest glory rum, which was added at a ratio of 1:10 to the naval blend. It was too strong and strange to be pleasant on the tongue. In 2000, the distillery ceased production and closed. Only in 2010 did tasters appear who took a liking to the rum because of its special taste. And the interest grew. Caroni belongs to the category of "you need to try before you die" rums. I recommend it, Caroni is a truly unique rum.

A really weak caroni! Is this even a caroni?! Tastes more like Angostura...

À part le nez et ce côté métallique.. On est très loin des standards habituels de caroni
Review by Lukas Jäger
In short: good rum, bad Caroni. Little to no typical notes, but an enormous sweetness and fruitiness. On the palate, additionally a peppery spiciness. Overall, a good rum, but the name brings it into spheres in terms of price, which it does not live up to. Easy to drink or put another way, perhaps a little too much diluted.
Review by Frank
Very fruity on the nose, dirty it is not, rather a bit soapy, like soap powder. From fruit I have gooseberry. In the upper tones shortbread, lime-fresh.Spicy on the palate. Anise, salt licorice, briefly peppery at the beginning. Unfortunately too diluted, so a bit flat. Metallic. Also licorice in the finish. Quite short.
Review by Jakob
Has very little in common with the classic Caroni profile, but is otherwise quite pleasing.
