Rum Shark Caroni 1991
Here's the surprise: this Caroni barely tastes like Caroni. Several tasters go looking for the dirty, tarry "garage" funk and find almost none — one even pegged it blind as a Foursquare. What you get instead is a lighter profile of chocolate, caramel, dried fruit and cinnamon, with less wood than 30 years should bring. Sweet, strong, creamy finish that fades a touch fast.

How does Rum Shark Caroni 1991 taste?
Summarized by AI from community reviews.
Light, clean Caroni, low on the funk People rate it well, but the recurring note is that it drinks light and clean rather than classic Caroni — lovely chocolate and fruit, though the finish drops off and the funk is nearly absent.
People easing toward Caroni or after a clean overproof
Fans of heavy, tarry garage Caroni

Definitely a very, very tasty Trinidad Overproof but caroni?! I feel here only to 5-10% maximum. But outstanding that the part has really 30 years on the hump and still tastes so little woody! Really tasty!

This Caroni is probably a bottling with a very high Light/LTR content. The typical dirty notes are missing almost completely and the remaining profile remains very flat. Has strong Spanish echoes, but there is then eg from Belize in more exciting form.

#5949 10.11.2025 Still under the weather after my vaccinations last week, so enjoying a few samples. Nose Round, light, light wood, light caramel, light chocolate, spice, light cinnamon, light cherries. Palate Oily, light wood, light roasted, light cherry, dried fruit, spice, light chocolate, light earthy, faint mint. Finish Medium to long, fresh, oily, light wood, faint smoke, light cherry, dried fruit. Empty glass Vanilla, light chocolate, cherry, faint cardamom.

Caroni is a distillery from Trinidad, producing during its greatest glory rum that was added in a ratio of 1:10 to the naval blend. It was too strong and strange to be pleasant on the tongue. In 2000 the distillery ended production and was closed. Only in 2010 did tasters appear who liked the rum precisely for its special taste. And interest grew. Caroni belongs to the category of rums "you need to try before you die." I recommend it, Caroni is truly a unique rum.

This rum has absolutely nothing to do with Caroni. Blind I would have typed him on a Foursquare. What it has to do with it, I would be interested...

In the nose, I expect a sweet Caroni profile. I feel chocolate, spices, caramel, cinnamon (cinnamon in Caroni probably for the first time). On the palate, I don't feel like I'm drinking HTR, but I am definitely drinking good Caroni with a very specific profile that has a lot to offer. Considering the age, I'm surprised how little wood I feel, which adds pleasant fresh flavors. The finish is medium long to long and beautifully smooth.

Average Providence rum. Has little to do with "classic" Caroni.

Very nice light rum by Caroni. Balanced full Flavie with lot of Dark chocolate & burned caramel. Burnt tires and spent kerosene only faintly in the background. Those who love heavy garage Caroni should choose another bottle, those who love good Overproof rum or looking for a way to heavy Caroni, will enjoy it.

My first Caroni. I expected heavier rum but this one was really gently. Love the chocolate, love the wood and the flavor of the fruit was excatly as should be (just enough). I was one of the lucky ones, who had opportunity to taste it, if the bottle had a better price ot will be a 10 for me.

Nose is quite nice, you can catch hints of fruits and vanilla, but main smell is wood. You can find yourself in the woodworking workshop after smelling this rum. It brings me so many memories. Now, let´s taste it. On the palate it is sweet and strong. I can distinguish chocolate, salt and caramel. Aftertaste is creamy and woody. It nicely warm you from inside and this "fire" remains for longer time, unfortunately the aftertaste doesn´t. I have to ask a question - where are those 30 years of aging? I can´t find them in this rum.

Vintage 1991. I rate it 9.0 out of 10, it belongs to the absolute top from more than 1,300 rums I have ever scored.

Beautiful delicate scent, first taste really strong (I spat it out as a kid), then it softens and unfortunately disappears quickly.
